I slept on one of Amazon's best selling mattresses for college students and it's perfect for your dorm room — from $159

The Zinus Green Tea Memory Foam Mattress is an Amazon bestseller and after previously sleeping on it for a month, I can see why it's amassed over 55,000 five-star reviews. The sink-in comfort is like being wrapped in a cloud and at only $159 for a full on Amazon, the Zinus 10" Mattress is excellent value.
If you're going back to school in a few weeks, I think this is one of the best mattresses for college students you can buy, a marshmallow soft upgrade from your (probably) less-than-impressive assigned dorm mattress.
While this budget-friendly choice might not have the durable support or specialist features of the top-rated mattresses of 2025, it's comfortable from the get-go, meaning you don't have to add 'breaking in a bed' to your college to-do list.
And in the mattress sales, you can get it on a student budget. Within this essay (article, sorry) I will explore why the Zinus Green Tea Memory Foam Mattress belongs on your back to school shopping list...
Zinus 10" Green Tea Memory Foam Mattress: twin $176.72 at AmazonThe Zinus is always an affordable choice and in the regular sales we think it's among the best cheap mattresses you can buy. Pressure relief is its strong point — I tried it for our Zinus Green Team Memory Foam Mattress review and found it to be a hug in a mattress — while the motion isolation is also stand out. There are some issues; it can sleep hot and stomach sleepers will need something firmer (I've recommended my favorite below.) However, the body contouring rivals some of the best mattresses for side sleepers. If you want a deal on a specific size, you'll need to look around. A full in the 10" model is only $159, down from $209, but if you're after a twin I recommend either the 8-inch model for $105, or the 12-inch Luxe model from $135.65, both at Amazon. The bad news? Twin XL sizes can be hard to come across.
Our review: ★★★½ User score: ★★★★½ (78,700+ reviews)
Cushioned comfort is where the Zinus excels. Pressure relief, specifically. It's a squishy, contouring mattress that eases around the shoulders and hips to cradle the body in a side sleeping position.
And it does all that at a student-friendly price. The Zinus foams might not have the kind of dense 'hug' I'd expect from a premium Tempur Material mattress, but they're also over $1000 cheaper.
Admittedly, the Zinus Green Tea Memory Foam does have some flaws but they're the kind I've come to expect from a cheap memory foam mattress.
For a start, it sleeps warm. Even top-rated memory foam mattresses have a tendency to trap heat and being cuddled in the softer foams of the Zinus can get a little stuffy. If this is the mattress you choose for college, I recommend getting breathable bedding to go with it.
But for my sleep needs, the biggest issue with the Zinus is that it doesn't offer enough support when I'm lying on my front. If you're also a stomach sleeper, I recommend the Siena mattress instead — I'll explain why below.
Siena 10" Signature Mattress: twin was $199 now $149 at AmazonLike the Zinus, the Siena is a 10-inch tall memory foam mattress in a box with an inexpensive price tag. But that's where the similarities pretty much end. The Siena is firm compared to the soft Zinus, making it a much better mattress for stomach sleepers (although more likely to cause numb arms for side sleepers.) It's also more breathable than the Zinus, so I recommend this option if you're heading to a warmer climate for college, or tend to sleep hot. In our Siena Signature Mattress review we described it as "a top-notch bed on a tight budget" and it's even better value than usual right now, with a twin XL only $219 at Amazon (was $279.)

This Reviewer-Beloved Toenail Brace Changed My Life

For those who have them, ingrown toenails need little introduction. They occur when the corner of the nail grows and curves into the skin, the result of too-tight shoes, incorrect trimming or injury to the nail. They cause inflammation that is notoriously uncomfortable: Ingrown nails can make it painful to simply wear shoes, and even cause pain when the affected nail so much as brushes against bedsheets. Discomfort from ingrowns can permeate even banal aspects of everyday life, and as a result, many folks with ingrown toenails learn to simply live with this inflammation and pain. I spent years hoping-slash-deluding myself into believing that my own ingrown big toenails, caused by years of too-tight cleats and heels, were not that disruptive to my life and would eventually improve on their own. Yet one day last year, I brushed one of my ingrowns against my carpeted floor and found myself doubled over in pain. I was forced to acknowledge that my ingrowns were not sustainable, and they were not going to get better by themselves. I combed the internet for the best home treatment for ingrowns, and found the CurveCorrect ingrown toenail treatment kit on Amazon. I'm protective over my money and was wary of spending $45 for the kit, but after reading through testimonials from reviewers who, too, were initially skeptical but were ultimately 'gobsmacked' and 'delighted' at its results, deeming it 'worthy every penny,' I decided to take the plunge — and I'm so happy that I did. The kit is designed to treat and correct the root of the problem: a nail that is literally growing and curving incorrectly. It works by using thin tension braces, which act like springs, to slowly and gently straighten the nail. The brace also relieves pressure from the ingrown, helping ease discomfort within days, according to CurveCorrect and the experience of myself and many reviewers. The brace attaches to the affected nail using a high-bond adhesive. 'For a simple, non-infected toenail that tends to become ingrown near where the nail grows out beyond the nail bed, this type of product could be helpful,' Dr. Howard E. Friedman, a podiatrist at Suffern Podiatry in New York State, told HuffPost. For my purposes, I found the CurveCorrect brace to be a game-changer. Within a week of applying the brace, my ingrowns had noticeably improved and flattened. A year later, after having worn the braces for several months, I still can't quite believe how much better my nails feel and look. Both my big toes are now even and flat, and they don't hurt anymore, which feels like something of a miracle. Before applying the brace, I — and many reviewers — recommend that you read and re-read the instructions. The home treatment is simple enough, but should be done carefully. As for preventing future ingrowns? 'The best prevention is to allow the corners of the nails to extend beyond the nail fold and cut the nail straight across. Most ingrown nails that I see are due to people who cut the nail too short,' said Friedman over email. 'Only ballerinas and sprinters need short toe nails.' Check out what reviewers have to say about the CurveCorrect kit, or grab your CurveCorrect kit now from Amazon. Get it from Amazon for $44.99.

How to Clean Your Mattress No Matter How Gross It Gets

From barf to blood, your stained mattress isn't necessarily beyond repair. Here's how to salvage your investment from every worst-case scenario. Courtesy of Amazon; Getty Images All products featured on WIRED are independently selected by our editors. However, we may receive compensation from retailers and/or from purchases of products through these links. It's important to know how to clean your mattress. Not just for day-to-day cleanliness and hygiene, but let's say you're dealing with an emergency—a 'my mattress is ruined" situation where you have the frantic energy of an emergency clean-up crew. Is a trip to the dump inevitable? Not necessarily. Before you think, 'I'm so clean, this would never happen to me!' I'm telling you, it can. I've seen a lot over the course of my career as a professional mattress tester and certified sleep coach. If you plan to have your mattress for its full eight- to 10-year lifespan, you'll want to keep it as pristine as possible. I chatted with cleaning influencer and third-generation janitor Brandon Pleshek of Clean That Up to see how he would approach the common situations below. Scenario 1: Someone Peed the Bed Life happens, sleep happens, and sometimes bladder control is an issue. This can be common at any age, from little kids to seniors. Or, maybe your pet had an accident. I've been there. Time is of the essence with this situation, to avoid a stain and—more urgently—smells from taking root. According to Pleshek, the quicker you address a fresh urine stain, the better. 'Speed is gonna help,' he says. 'The longer you let the urine sit, the more it'll soak in, and the harder it'll be to get it completely out.' According to Pleshek, urine contains a lot of salt. It will require more heavy-duty cleaning agents to adequately get it out. The solution of choice: enzyme cleaners, like Nature's Miracle ($13). 'Enzymes are your best approach right away, because those can attack the urine stain instantly,' says Pleshek. Extracting via a Shop-Vac or portable carpet cleaner is also a great first step. 'Suck as much of that out as possible so that it can't go deeper. Enzymes help with odor.' When it comes to using enzymes, Pleshek cautions, 'You have to make sure to let them sit for as long as they say on the label. Enzymes need time to work. The label's the law, so do your best to follow it and that'll help things clean up better.' Now, let's say that you don't have an enzyme cleaner handy. For fresh urine, using a clean towel or paper towels, blot at the stain to pick up as much moisture as you can. Grab a spray bottle (Pleshek says in a pinch, you can just grab a spray nozzle off a bottle you have and stick it on the bottle you're using) and put together a cup of white vinegar, two cups of cold water, and a few drops of either dish soap or laundry detergent. Mix well, and then spray down the affected area. After 10 to 15 minutes, grab a fresh towel or paper towels to blot up the solution. Then sprinkle baking soda over the stain like there's no tomorrow. Once the spot is fully covered, leave it alone for eight to 10 hours—again, use your judgement based on how bad the stain is. Once Mount Baking Soda has dried up, and enough time has passed, you can vacuum it all up using a hose attachment. One note: Be wary of over-saturating your mattress. Leaving liquid behind can cause mold and mildew within your mattress. 'Anytime you're getting your mattress wet: vacuum, vacuum, and then when you think you're done at vacuuming and extracting that out with a little spotter machine, do it two more times,' Pleshek says. 'Always put a fan on it and get good airflow through the room.' Scenario 2: Your Period Arrived Early Looks like you have a crime scene on your hands: the crime being the mattress mess. Blood stains are a pain when it comes to removing them from any fabric, and mattresses are not exempt. Periods aren't the only situations where blood could mysteriously appear; healing cuts, scabs, and nosebleeds are also common. The miracle cleanup go-to for bloody situations, according to Pleshek, is hydrogen peroxide. Pleshek's cleanup process is this: 'Grab a brown bottle, get a basic spray bottle, and mist the area where the blood is. Let it sit.' It'll have a small reaction akin to a middle school science experiment, but that's good. Leave it alone for a good 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the size and severity of your stain. 'What's kind of cool and fun about cleaning up blood with hydrogen peroxide is that you will see it bubble and it vanishes really fast,' adds Pleshek. 'Follow up with a damp towel and blot a bit to remove the stain.' Scenario 3: 'Mom, I Threw Up' Courtesy of Nature's Miracle Time is, once again, of the essence here. 'Vomit is extremely acidic,' says Pleshek. Depending on what was eaten, whether that be food or medication, it can make bile even more acidic than is typical. You need to act quickly to address the stain—and the smell. If any vomit made its way onto the mattress itself, remove any residual solids off the surface—you may want to wear gloves for this one. Enzyme cleaner is once again going to be your go-to. However, removing the excess vomit is a crucial step—you can't just spray it on top of the mess as is and hope for the best. According to Pleshek, the enzyme cleaner isn't going to be able to efficiently do its thing if all the excess hasn't been adequately removed first. Scenario 4: Food Stains I don't think you're going to be spilling chili all over your bed like Kevin in that scene from The Office , but I won't discount any possibilities. First, Pleshek says to grab a spray bottle, a tablespoon of dish soap, and warm water. From there, 'lightly agitate it with a toothbrush or soft material to suspend the soil.' Follow with a spotter machine. If something has the tenacity to stick around even after that, time to bring back our friend hydrogen peroxide. 'Mist [the stain] with hydrogen peroxide, and let it sit. The hydrogen peroxide should be able to pull out the color,' Pleshek says. He suggests doing this as a multistep process, because hydrogen peroxide and a degreaser don't work well simultaneously. While this two-prong approach may take more time and evaluation as you go, it's the recommended way to tackle the stain. Save the Day, Your Mattress, and Your Sanity This is one of my nonnegotiables, and it's backed by Pleshek: Get a waterproof mattress protector or encasement. It may save you a lot of heartache from big messes. These cleanup tips hopefully prove to be helpful. But from experience, you may breathe one big sigh of relief when you just have to handle bedding and not the bed itself by using one of these as a fail-safe.

Samsung's Galaxy Watch 8 just came out and you can already save $50

If you're looking to upgrade an older Android smartwatch, or want to give wearables a try for the first time, Samsung's Galaxy Watch 8 is a compelling choice. It has a new design, lets you access Google's Gemini AI from your wrist, and has a handful of new health and wellness features. It launched on July 25th, but you can already get the 40mm model on sale for $299.99 ($50 off) from Samsung. Amazon has the watch for full price, but is offering a $50 promotional credit toward a future purchase if you use the code APSUE5MBXB6Y at checkout. Samsung's latest smartwatch features a new squircle design, Gemini, and some new health features like an Antioxidant Index and Running Coach. The Galaxy Watch 8 is squircle shaped, which may be divisive, but allows it to lay flatter and Verge reporter Victoria Song found it fit more more comfortably on her wrist in her review. The change also let Samsung make the watch thinner than the Galaxy Watch 7, and yet we still found it can still last more than a day on a charge. While it's not a huge departure from its predecessor, it could be a good upgrade for anyone with a Galaxy Watch 5 or below, and Samsung's new discount counteracts the $50 price increase means you're not paying any more than the Galaxy Watch 7 cost at launch. If you've gotten used to Google Gemini on your smartphone or computer, the Galaxy Watch 8 will let you access it from your wrist – we created playlists, checked the weather, and have previously asked Gemini whether it's necessary to scrub a sweet potato before peeling it. On the health and wellness side, the Galaxy Watch 8 can track steps, your heart rate, blood oxygen level, steps, and activity. If you have a Samsung Galaxy phone, you use the smartwatch to take an EKG or detect sleep apnea. A new feature called Running Coach will put you through a 12-minute run test, give you a grade from one through 10, and create a workout program based on your performance. It also includes sensors designed to detect whether you're eating enough fruits and vegetables, but we found it can be fooled by colorful objects, including a Cheeze-It. The Galaxy Watch 8 is also available in a 44mm size, and that model is also on sale for $379.99 ($50 off) from up for Verge Deals to get deals on products we've tested sent to your inbox weekly.
