Vi Business, the enterprise arm of Vodafone Idea Limited, has announced its plan to enable 12 million smart meters across India within the next three years, marking a significant milestone in the country's transition toward intelligent and sustainable energy systems.
This large-scale initiative is aligned with the India Smart Grid Mission and positions Vi Business as a key player in transforming India's energy landscape. The deployment of smart meters is expected to improve operational efficiency for distribution companies (DISCOMs) by helping reduce Aggregate Technical & Commercial (AT&C) losses, while empowering consumers with real-time data to monitor and manage their energy usage.

Vi Business draws from over five years of experience in Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), delivering scalable, resilient, and secure solutions that cater to India's evolving energy needs.
The company has also built structured pre- and post-onboarding methodologies to ensure seamless smart meter integration. It employs telco-grade data protection protocols and operates a dedicated IoT Lab for pre-deployment testing and certification—enhancing the reliability and speed of nationwide rollouts.
Arvind Nevatia, Chief Enterprise Business Officer, Vi, said:
'We are pioneers in the smart meter energy ecosystem, first to deploy smart meters in 2018 and first to launch innovations like the IoT lab. We continue this commitment with an aim to deploy 12 million smart meters to reduce energy losses, improve efficiency and enhance consumer experience across India'
This development underscores Vi Business's commitment to supporting India's digital and sustainable infrastructure goals, while reinforcing its leadership in delivering cutting-edge IoT and telecom solutions to power critical national utilities.
