Taneira Launches GI-Tagged Sarees to Celebrate National Handloom Day
Taneira, the Tata Group's women's ethnic wear brand, has introduced Geographical Indication (GI)-tagged sarees to mark National Handloom Day, aiming to promote authenticity in India's handloom sector and highlight the work of traditional artisans.
The first phase of the launch features GI-certified Banarasi, Chanderi, and Maheshwari sarees, with plans to extend coverage to 10 more weaving clusters. GI tags serve as proof that the sarees originate from their respective regions and are crafted by local artisans using traditional methods.
Taneira is collaborating with vendor partners and weaving clusters to secure GI certifications, offering documentation assistance, legal guidance, and on-ground support. These sarees will also carry additional quality and authenticity markers, such as the Handloom Mark, Silk Mark, Zari Certification, Khadi Certificate, and Pashmina Certification.
'By partnering with craft clusters and offering certified weaves, including GI-tagged products, we aim to build a transparent supply chain that empowers artisans and enables customers to make informed, conscious choices,' said Ambuj Narayan, CEO of Taneira.
Founded in 2017, Taneira works with over 100 weaving clusters across India and operates 18 Weavershala facilities to enhance production techniques while preserving traditional craftsmanship. The brand has expanded to more than 80 stores across 41 cities and offers international online delivery.

IHCL to acquire 51% stake in ANK Hotels and Pride Hospitality
Tata Group's hospitality unit Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) has signed a definitive agreement to acquire a 51% equity stake in two companies operating 135 hotels under the Clarks Hotels and Resorts brand for Rs2.4bn ($23.28m). The acquisition involves ANK Hotels, which manages 111 midscale hotels, and Pride Hospitality, which operates 24 hotels across India. IHCL will acquire majority stakes in ANK Hotels for Rs144m and in Pride Hospitality for Rs189.4m by November 2025. In a stock exchange filing, IHCL stated: "The transactions aim to address India's heterogeneous market landscape and provide deeper geographical penetration across India in the midscale segment while continuing to pursue its asset-light growth strategy." IHCL managing director and chief executive officer Puneet Chhatwal said: 'India's hospitality sector has witnessed sustained demand momentum over the last three consecutive fiscal years, reflective of the country's growing economic prominence and rising discretionary spends. 'The outlook for the sector remains buoyant as demand outpaces supply and India continues to be an underserved hospitality market, especially in the mid-market segment. 'Our partnership with ANK, Pride and Brij Hospitality is a multi-pronged approach addressing India's heterogeneous market landscape and is in line with IHCL's five-year road map 'Accelerate 2030' of unlocking India's tourism potential.' ANK Hotels operates under the Clarks Hotels & Resorts umbrella, including Clarks Inn, Clarks Inn Suites, and Clarks Inn Premier. Out of the 111 hotels, 67 are operational, with a turnover of $1.63m in FY25. Pride Hospitality manages Clarks Safari, Clarks Collection, and Clarks Resort, with 13 hotels operational and has a turnover of $2.16m in FY25. In addition to the acquisition, IHCL has signed a distribution and marketing agreement with Brij Hospitality, which operates 19 hotels under the Brij Brand across India's unique destinations. "IHCL to acquire 51% stake in ANK Hotels and Pride Hospitality " was originally created and published by Hotel Management Network, a GlobalData owned brand. Air India is suspending one of its US routes after Pakistan's airspace closure forced it to refuel in Europe
Air India is stopping one of its routes to the US, citing fewer available planes and longer flights caused by the monthslong partial closure of Pakistan's airspace. The flag carrier announced Monday that it plans to suspend flights between Delhi and Washington, DC, starting September 1. Since it was taken over by the Tata Group in 2022, Air India has undergone an ambitious transformation to expand and modernize. That includes upgrading planes with newer seats. Last month, it began retrofitting 26 of its Boeing 787 Dreamliners, which means several of them will be undergoing work at any given time until the end of next year. The airline has also faced difficulties with some of its routes since Pakistan closed its airspace to Indian carriers in late April, following regional conflict between the two countries. In Monday's announcement, it said this has resulted in "longer flight routings and increased operational complexity." Because some of its US routes already stretched the limits of their planes' maximum ranges, flying around Pakistan has required fuel stops. The Delhi-to-DC route, Flight 103, could previously fly directly north and over the Arctic Circle — but it has stopped to refuel in Vienna since April. That means what was once a roughly 15-hour flight now takes about 19 hours, including around 60 minutes on the ground in the Austrian capital. Air India said passengers who have already booked journeys between Delhi and Washington, DC, from September 1 would be offered a choice between rebooking on another flight or a full refund. The airline said it will still fly to four US airports: New York JFK, Newark, Chicago O'Hare, and San Francisco. Interline agreements with Alaska Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines mean passengers could get a connecting flight to Washington, DC, on the same ticket. However, all of these journeys now take longer since Air India has to fly around its neighboring country to reach the US. For example, Flight 101, from Delhi to JFK, takes about 16 hours — two hours longer than before the airspace closure. This route also made fuel stops in Europe for a few weeks, but has flown direct since mid-May.
