Kaun Banega Crorepati: Bigger money tree, new lifeline, additional round before hot-seat, and all the new rules in latest season of Amitabh Bachchan's show

The game show Kaun Banega Crorepati returned to television sets and OTT platforms for its historic 17th season on Monday. It's been 25 years since host Amitabh Bachchan first introduced the country to this unique quiz-based show, and the show has only grown in reach since then. Now, back with the new season, Sony and Bachchan announced some pretty important changes to the overall structure of the game in order to keep up with the changing times and evolve. The road to the hot seat has now gotten much more difficult as the 'Jaldi 5' (quick-five) has now been added as a full-time segment of the show. The top two contestants of the 'fastest-fingers-first' section will now have to compete against each other for a place on the hot seat. Questions will be asked in quick succession, and the first to answer 5 questions accurately will win the round, and proceed to the hot-seat. For example, the money tree has now changed. The previous money tree used to begin at Rs 1,000, and the participants would get Rs 10,000 upon reaching the first 'padav' (checkpoint). Now the first question is worth Rs 5,000, and the prize for reaching the first checkpoint is Rs 25,000. However, since the contestant has reached the hot-seat after answering five questions during 'jaldi-5', the first question they answer here will be worth Rs 50,000. There are more changes up the tree, as the second checkpoint, which was initially worth Rs 3,20,000, is now worth Rs 5,00,000. Within the next 5 questions, the participants can reach Rs 1 crore, and then they shall be put to the test with the final question worth Rs 7 crore. Another new development in the game is the introduction of a new lifeline, called 'Sanket Suchak' (Hint-Giver). The fictitious computer-ji will now provide the players with hints upon using this lifeline. This time, 'Phone a friend', is not in the list of lfelines, and the contestants have the option of choosing between '50:50′, 'Audience Poll', and 'Sanket Suchak'. The first two episodes of the show are out now on Sony Liv. A special tribute segment was a part of the first episode where Col Sofiya Qureshi, Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, and Commander Prerna Deosthalee all joined Bachchan on the hot seat after helping defend the country a few months back during the aftermath of the Pahalgam attack. Another Maha Utsav episode will air on August 15 at 9 pm to celebrate Independence Day.

Coolie Movie Box Office Collection Prediction Day 1: Rajinikanth-starrer books Rs 100 cr opening weekend

Coolie Box Office Collection Prediction Day 1: Few tentpole films can generate the sort of pre-release hype and excitement that Lokesh Kanagaraj's sixth feature Coolie has witnessed ahead of its release. Undoubtedly, the most anticipated Tamil film of the year is coming this Independence Day weekend with much riding on its shoulders. The Rajinikanth starrer has already rewritten many norms when it comes to pre-release figures. It has crossed the Rs 110 crore mark from its advance box office worldwidev for the first weekend with Rs 80 cr coming from first day itself. These are momentous figures for Tamil cinema, and the gradual surge in the expectations around this movie in its final lap of the promotional period has taken the whole industry by surprise. The highest opening day record rests with Vijay's Leo that made Rs 124 crore on its opening day. Having sold more than 1.2 million tickets online in India before its release, Coolie has entered the big league and already posits as Tamil cinema's golden ticket to the kind of national numbers that we have come to associate with Bollywood, Kannada, and Telugu films. There were, of course, expectations regarding an ensemble crime film starring Rajnikanth, Nagarjuna Akkineni, Soubin Shahir, Upendra, Shruti Haasan, and Aamir Khan in an extended cameo to create great buzz. Industry Tracker Ramesh Bala told SCREEN, 'We can easily look forward to a Rs 150 crore opening for Coolie during the weekend, which is a monumental figure for Tamil cinema. The weekend sales are expected to be at an all-time high, and we can see big numbers there'. 'Unusually, the Hindi market too seems to be responding very well to Coolie due to the Rajnikanth, Lokesh Kanagaraj, and Aamir Khan factor. This is truly the celebration of 50 years of superstar Rajnikanth in the industry, and B and C centres have also chipped in very favourably in the last few days of booking. Despite some lukewarm big-ticket releases in recent times, the trailer and the score by Anirudh seem to have worked their magic. The long Independence Day weekend window will also help the film greatly, and if the word of mouth from the first day is good, we are looking at unprecedented figures.' Trade Analyst Sreedhar Pillair also shared his two cents on the Coolie bookings rampage situation. 'We are all looking at Coolie with astronomical expectations, and there is no doubt about the record opening speculations. The Rajni-Lokesh collaboration seems to be working big time, and fans are interested to see what they have served up with the support of Anirudh's crowd-favorite score.' But, will Coolie manage to become the first Tamil film to enter the Rs 1,000 crore club? 'Let us take it slow and not get ahead of ourselves. I am looking at the data coming in and feel that Coolie has all the potential to do what films like KGF, Baahubali did for their respective industries, if word of mouth after the first shows is out,' Pillai answers. He also counts Rajinikanth-starrer's achievements. 'Selling 2 million tickets in North America is a big achievement, and Coolie has managed to enter the elite club with these numbers. From where I look at it, the expectations and ground reality are on par with what this project promised from the very first day it was announced. Superstar Rajinikanth teaming up with the young blockbuster filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj is getting the hype and momentum that the film rightly deserves, and this will truly be a litmus test for the maximum potential of Tamil cinema.'
