While the season continues to get closer and closer, the rumor mill continues to get hotter and hotter. With one particular player, T.J. Watt, things are getting a little warmer after a recent update.

The talented pass rusher is seeking an extension from the Pittsburgh Steelers, and currently, neither side can compromise on a deal. If things get bad enough to necessitate a move, one team that has been mentioned is the Tennessee Titans.
USA Today's Cody Woodruff listed Tennessee as a potential landing spot. The proposal included the Titans sending a 2026 second-round pick and a 2027 third-round pick to Pittsburgh in exchange for Watt.

This trade would give the Titans an elite pass-rusher, replacing Harold Landy, whom they released this offseason. Landry subsequently signed with the New England Patriots and former Titans coach Mike Vrabel.

While acquiring a former NFL Defensive Player of the Year sounds like a positive, it is not likely to be something that happens. New general manager Mike Borgonzi has already stated at his introductory press conference in January how he wanted to build the Titans' roster, and it did not involve trading picks for star players:
"My vision as a team builder is to draft and develop," Borgonzi said. "We want to build a foundation of home-grown talent and reward those players that meet our standards. "
This is not to say that Borgonzi won't make any trades during his time as general manager of the Titans, but he also wants to draft pieces to the puzzle and not just trade for them. Otherwise, this would leave the Titans bereft of draft picks to replenish the roster.
Another reason this trade would not happen is that Watt would likely want to join a more immediate contender. The Titans are not exactly in a position to contend for a title right now, or maybe not even the postseason.

Watt will want to get a lucrative extension, but he is definitely not a young player anymore. He would more likely want to join a team where he's a key piece in their title-winning efforts than a rebuilding team.
All in all, a trade to the Titans sounds like a good idea from the outside looking in. But it isn't something that would be ideal from Borgonzi's perspective on how to build the roster, nor what Watt is looking for, outside of money.

SEC Powerhouse Lands Multiple 4-Star Commits Minutes Apart

SEC Powerhouse Lands Multiple 4-Star Commits Minutes Apart originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Led by head coach Josh Heupel, the Tennessee Volunteers have had a successful offseason, which is apparent by them already landing some of the top talent in the 2026 recruiting class. Advertisement That trend continued on Tuesday, as On3's Hayes Fawcett reported that the SEC squad had landed a commitment from defensive lineman Dereon Albert out of Jackson, Mississippi, but things didn't stop there. Roughly two minutes later, in another report from Fawcett, it was revealed that Tennessee had also received a commitment from linebacker TJ White, who happens to be teammates with Albert as members of the Jackson Academy Raiders. Both are very exciting, with White being the higher rated of the two, as On3 Industry Rankings place him as a four-star recruit, the No. 5 linebacker, the No. 5 player in Mississippi and the No. 80 player in the nation. Advertisement However, that doesn't mean Albert is some slough. He is a four-star recruit, the No. 34 defensive lineman, the No. 13 player in Mississippi and the No. 347 player in the nation. If the pair were looking to stay together at the collegiate level, Tennessee wasn't their only option, as they both received offers from the Texas A&M Aggies, the North Carolina Tar Heels, the Auburn Tigers and the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Tennessee Volunteers football head coach Josh Heupel© Saul Young/News Sentinel / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images There's no doubt that the Volunteers are glad to have them, though, as the pair helps boost their 2025 recruiting class to No. 5 in the SEC and No. 12 in the nation with a total of 15 commitments, per On3. Can Notre Dame's Jeremiyah Love Be This Year's Ashton Jeanty?

Can Notre Dame's Jeremiyah Love Be This Year's Ashton Jeanty? originally appeared on Athlon Sports. For a few years, it seemed like the NFL had moved on from valuing running backs as being worthy of premium draft picks. Advertisement But in recent years, a handful of truly elite prospects have proven that if teams want to land special talents at the position, they deserve to be picked early. The likes of Saquon Barkley (No. 2 overall), Christian McCaffrey (No. 8 overall), Bijan Robinson (No. 8 overall), and Jahmyr Gibbs (No. 12 overall) have all become superstars, and the 2025 NFL Draft delivered another candidate in Ashton Jeanty, who landed with the Las Vegas Raiders with the No. 6 overall pick. That reversing of the trend could have NFL teams and fans looking ahead to next year's draft in hopes of finding yet another potential top-10 pick in the offensive backfield, and Notre Dame's Jeremiyah Love is likely to be at the top of the list. Ashton Jeanty put up historic numbers at Boise State last year before being a top-10 NFL draft J. Rebilas-Imagn Images But is Love in the same stratosphere as Jeanty heading into the 2025 college football season? Advertisement On the latest episode of "Best Podcast Available," I sat down with NFL writer Doug Farrar to discuss the top prospects in next year's draft class, and asked about the comparison between Jeanty and Love. "I don't compare backs to LaDanian Tomlinson," Farrar said. "And I don't use the word 'generational,' because it's stupid. But I've done both with Jeanty, without hesitation. That's the level we're talking about here. There are elements of Emmitt Smith. He's just rare." Despite facing more nine-man boxes than any other team in college football outside of Army, Jeanty delivered one of the most historic seasons we've ever seen from a running back at that level, finishing second in the Heisman Trophy voting behind another rare talent in Colorado two-way superstar Travis Hunter. "When you're the epicenter of your offense, and you're still unstoppable, that puts you in a different category," Farrar said of Jeanty's ridiculous production despite the consistent attention from opposing defenses. Jeremiyah Love is widely regarded as the top running back prospect in the 2026 NFL Draft class.© Matt Cashore-Imagn Images Love had an impressive 2024 season, to be sure, helping the Fighting Irish make it all the way to the national title game, and providing some highlight-reel moments along the way. He's widely regarded as the top running back prospect in the 2026 class, and a likely first-round pick barring injury, but he's still got a ways to go before he can be put in the same sentence as Jeanty. Advertisement "I think Jeremiyah Love will be a great back in the NFL, but he's not Ashton Jeanty," Farrar said. "I'm sure there will be those comparisons, but they're ill-advised, at best. And that's not a slam on Love at all." During Super Bowl week earlier this year, Farrar had a chance to speak with Robinson, who has quickly established himself as one of the league's most dynamic backs with the Atlanta Falcons, and the former Texas star admitted that Jeanty reminds him of himself. "You don't often get NFL players saying that about draft prospects," Farrar said. "That's just Jeanty setting himself apart." 2026 NFL Draft Early Watch List: Running Back

2026 NFL Draft Early Watch List: Running Back originally appeared on Athlon Sports. It's never too early to look ahead to the next NFL Draft, and with the dust now fully settled from this year's event in Green Bay, the gaze of prospect evaluation is now turning to the 2026 class. Advertisement The 2025 running back group was absolutely loaded, from an elite talent at the top, to deep second and third tiers that provided impressive depth and strong value throughout all seven rounds. There's no Ashton Jeanty in the 2026 class, but there's still a clear-cut leader at the top of the board, along with a handful of promising runners who could contend for first-round consideration. Here's an early look at some of the top running back prospects eligible for next year's draft: Jeremiyah Love, Notre Dame He may not be in Jeanty's stratosphere (few are), but Love has all the traits to be a special back at the next level. A three-down playmaker, Love helped lead the Fighting Irish all the way to the national title game, tallying over 1,300 total yards and 19 touchdowns while averaging nearly seven yards per carry. Love was slowed late in the season by a knee injury, but at full strength, he should prove in 2025 that he's the best running back in college football. If he's able to stay healthy and reach his lofty potential, Love could end up hearing his name called in the top 20 of next year's draft. Nicholas Singleton, Penn State A complete back with an NFL-ready frame, Singleton is the perfect balance of power and explosiveness in the backfield. Listed at 6-0, 227 pounds, he's just as likely to shake a defender in the open field as he is to run him over, and he's not afraid to churn out the tough yards between the tackles. He's half of a two-headed monster for the Nittany Lions, but don't think Singleton won't be capable of handling a full workload at the next level. He's got the size, well-rounded skill set, and versatility (67 receptions, 683 yards, seven touchdown catches over the past two seasons) to be a full-time, three-down back in the NFL. That could make him a first-round pick. Makhi Hughes, Oregon A transfer from Tulane, Hughes put up huge numbers for the Green Wave, racking up nearly 2,800 yards and 22 touchdowns on the ground over the past two seasons. Listed at 5-11, 210 pounds, he's got the ideal frame for a featured back at the NFL level, along with the three-down skill set to match (19 receptions for 176 yards and two touchdowns last season. Hughes shows impressive contact balance to run through traffic and stay upright, along with the vision and explosiveness to navigate his way into the open field and pull away from would-be tacklers. If he's able to produce at the same level against top competition this year, he should be one of the first backs off the board come next April.
