Disabled teen turns hobby into job as he quits school and rakes in £10k a month

Ross McLaren, 22, from Midlothian, Scotland, was born with a rare form of muscular dystrophy which left him wheelchair-bound - but he built a six-figure business while still in his teens
A disabled teeenager has given up school after raking in £10,000 a month from his bedroom by managing some of the world's most famous online gamers.
Ross McLaren, who was born with a unique form of muscular dystrophy and is wheelchair-bound, turned his passion for gaming into a lucrative career. Dreaming originally of pro-Fortnite stardom, the enterprising teenager created a six-figure business while living with his parents Lesley and Craig in Midlothian.

Now 22, Ross helms a team of ten, managing the day-to-day affairs of some of the biggest names in the gaming industry, including the well-known Fortnite players Clix and Sentinel.

Ross shared with the Record: "I really wanted to be a pro-Fortnite player but I realised I wasn't good enough. I got into video editing for professional Fornite players and started working with small gaming streamers for free when I was in school", reports the Daily Record.
"By summer 2021 I was making £10,000 per month and I told my parents I didn't want to sit my Advanced Highers. They had their doubts and asked me to go back to school - but I quit after one day."
He credits his disability as giving him a unique entrée into gaming, allowing him time to perfect his skills. He revealed: "Having muscular dystrophy was somewhat of an advantage for me as it meant I spent a lot more time on a computer when I was younger as I couldn't go out and play sports like other kids."

Starting out by offering video editing services to smaller streamers, Ross eventually hit the jackpot just as he considered calling it quits. He said: "I was working with a streamer called Bugha who only had about 20,000 subscribers. Bugha played in the Fortnite World Cup in 2018 and won $3million. Overnight, his subscriber count hit one million."
Since then, Bugha – now boasting a whopping 4.7 million YouTube subscribers – has remained loyal to Ross, leading to a business boom. Ross's talents didn't go unnoticed; he soon caught the attention of another Fortnite sensation, Clix, who commands an impressive 3.5 million YouTube followers.

Despite initial reservations and a brief return to George Heriot's School under parental pressure, Ross quickly pivoted back to his passion, landing a game-changing opportunity. He was tapped to manage a gaming channel for none other than UK YouTube heavyweight KSI, who enjoys a staggering audience of over 22 million subscribers.
Now a sought-after freelancer, Ross juggles content management for elite players like Clix and the renowned E-Sports organisation Sentinels from Los Angeles. With top Fortnite streamers like Clix raking in around £100,000 monthly, Ross earns a handsome commission for his content creation expertise.
The ambitious young Scot is now eyeing a move to the US, aiming to set up shop closer to the action and his high-profile clientele. He said: "It's crazy how things have turned out. My job didn't exist a few years ago - now business is thriving."
He's got his heart set on Dallas, explaining: "I hope to move to Dallas. With Fortnite, the servers are based there and many of the players are." Determined to take his career to the next level, he concluded: "I'm planning on taking the leap to move to be closer to my clients."

The star announced recently that she had been diagnosed with "early breast cancer" and would soon be undergoing surgery. Jessie shared some snaps of the last two days on her Instagram page, writing alongside it: "Blood warning. This post is some of the honest lows and highs of the last 48 hours. ‌ "I will always show the good and hard bits of any journey I go through. Grateful to my doctor / surgeon and all the nurses who cared for me and all my family / friends who came to visit. ‌ "I am home now, to rest and wait for my results. Chanan is in a nurse outfit. No no, he isn't, but funny to imagine." Jessie performed at the Summertime Ball a few weeks ago, where she told the 80,000 strong audience that this would be the last performance before her surgery. She said: "Today, this show is my last show before I go to beat breast cancer! So it's so special to me you have no idea. I feel so special to be from the UK, to be an honest person and say how you feel. "This is my last show before go treatment and all the things It's the most special thing and I'm so grateful for this life, for you guys, for my career, to my, my son. "My partner, my parents. My family, my band, my crew." ‌ She added: "We are so lucky, we have so much to live for, so much joy, so much, so many things to do." Jessie made the announcement about her diagnosis in a video shared with fans online, reported the Mirror. She told them: "I was diagnosed with early breast cancer. Cancer sucks in any form, but I'm holding on to the word 'early'. ‌ "It's a very dramatic way to get a boob job. I am going to disappear for a bit after Summertime Ball to have my surgery, and I will come back with massive tits and more music. I just wanted to be open and share it." She added: "One, because, selfishly, I do not talk about it enough. I'm not processing it because I'm working so hard. I also know how much sharing in the past has helped me with other people giving me their love and support and also their own stories. ‌ "I'm an open book. It breaks my heart that so many people are going through so much similar and worse-that's the bit that kills me.. "The timing of it has been mad but also beautiful and given me this incredible perspective in this time. "But honestly I need to process it and talk about it and, I need a hug. You have loved me through all my good and hard times. And I don't want this to be any different." Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Paige Turley suffers 'wardrobe malfunction' at Pride of Scotland Awards

The ex Love Islander suffered a wardrobe mishap just before taking to the red carpet at the Daily Record's Pride of Scotland Awards tonight, June 23. Former Love Island star Paige Turley was victim to a serious wardrobe malfunction at tonight's Pride of Scotland Awards in Glasgow. The Daily Record's award ceremony champions the nation's unsung heroes, and is often referred to as our 'People's Oscars'. Scots TV personality and singer Paige Turley was broadcasting all the gossip from the red carpet (wardrobe malfunctions and all) alongside Stevie Jukes tonight. The annual awards ceremony was then hosted by Elaine C Smith and Sanjeev Kohli, and included an exclusive list of award-winners including Sir Chris Hoy. ‌ This is Paige's fourth year as red carpet host and she said ahead of the event that she was looking forward to teaming up with Stevie to spill all the insider info. The 27-year-old, who co-hosted last year with Love Island's Laura Anderson, said: 'I'm excited about hosting with Stevie as he is a really lovely guy and hopefully we will compliment each other. ‌ 'I'm all about the style and fashion and he can talk to folk about other things. Our job is to put everyone at their ease because the red carpet can be a daunting place, especially for the winners." The TV star also spoke to the Daily Record on the red carpet tonight ahead of her hosting duties, in a gorgeous floor-length strapless black dress decorated with rhinestones. But when asked to do a twirl for the cameras, Paige revealed that a slight mishap with her outfit prevented her from turning around. She said while laughing: "I actually can't [do a twirl], because there's a slight wardrobe malfunction." The star then explained the perfect comedic timing of her dress ripping before the awards. ‌ Paige continued: "So as I'm getting into the taxi on the way to the awards, my boyfriend Kieran kindly noticed that I had a slit on my backside." The star has been loved up with her boyfriend Kieran Tumilowicz, a scaffolder from her hometown in West Lothian, since last June. ‌ She continued: "Somebody is running up the carpet right this minute with a needle and thread to try and sew me back into this dress. "So I would love to give you a whirl but I can't." Paige has attended Scotland 's People's Oscars several times before, and explained that it's the kids' awards that she loves to see the most. ‌ She continued: "Do you know what, I love the kids' winners, they melt my heart. "It's such an honour to be here again and I think everyone is well-deserving, but the kids are the ones that catch my heart especially." Other celebs attending the ceremony tonight include Laura Anderson, Al Murray and Susan Boyle. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Al Murray shares why Scotland gave him 'best week of his life' as he attends Pride of Scotland Awards

Comedian Al Murray took to red carpet at the Daily Record's Pride of Scotland Awards. Comedian Al Murray has revealed his love for Scotland tonight, June 23, on the red carpet of the Daily Record's Pride of Scotland Awards. The comic also shared that the 'best week of his life' took place in Edinburgh when his first daughter was born during the Fringe festival in 1999. The Daily Record's annual Pride of Scotland ceremony takes place tonight, and will shed light on some of our nation's unsung community heroes. The star-studded event is being hosted by Elaine C Smith and Sanjeev Kohli, and includes an exclusive list of award-winners including Sir Chris Hoy. ‌ ‌ Al Murray is just one of the celebrity names on this year's guest list, and he confessed that his appearance at tonight's ceremony was down to his love for the city of Glasgow. The star is no stranger to Scotland, and he is also a frequenter of the Edinburgh Fringe. He told the Daily Record: "This is really brilliant, I got the call a couple of weeks ago, and you know, any excuse to come to Glasgow obviously. "I love coming here, I've come here a lot, and I like playing here, I like the city." But the famed comedian's love for the Scots goes deeper than his fondness for playing gigs. The star also shared that the 'best week of his life' took place at the Edinburgh Fringe back in 1999, when his eldest daughter was born and he won a prestigious comedy award at the festival. Murray explained: "The most amazing thing that's happened to me in Scotland was my eldest daughter was born here. ‌ "She was born at the Edinburgh Festival." Having been born on Scottish soil, the comic then joked that his daughter 'did wonder where her free university education was going to come from'. ‌ However, as she had never lived here, Murray's daughter unfortunately missed out on that particular perk of being a Scot. The comedian added: "She's not got the accent but she was born [in Edinburgh] on a Monday in August in '99, it was the same week I won the Perrier Award, which is the Comedy Award now, that same week. ‌ "And so there's this weird thing where, it was the most amazing week of my life in terms of what was happening at the Fringe, but then you have a kid and realise, 'oh, we've got to put this all into perspective', and also, 'I've got to work now and not just have fun'. "But also, she's 25 now, nearly 26, and it just reminds me of how old I am, and how long ago that all happened." Al Murray also shared that he'll be going on tour in 2026, and will be performing in Scotland in the early days of the new year. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community!
