Hendricks and Angels hand slumping Yankees their 3rd straight shutout, 4-0
NEW YORK (AP) — Kyle Hendricks and three relievers combined on a four-hitter as the Los Angeles Angels beat the slumping New York Yankees 4-0 on Tuesday night to hand them their third straight shutout.
New York manager Aaron Boone tinkered with his lineup — batting rookie Jasson Domínguez first and dropping Paul Goldschmidt to sixth — but it didn't yield results for the Yankees, who were 0 for 10 with runners on and got just three to second base.
Aaron Judge went 0 for 4 with three strikeouts and heard boos following whiffs in the sixth and eighth. He is 2 for 19 with 12 strikeouts in his last five games.
The Yankees, who haven't scored in 29 innings since the ninth inning of a 4-3 loss at Boston on Saturday, were last blanked in three consecutive games from Sept. 22-24, 2016. They have never been shut out in four straight games.
Hendricks (5-6) allowed four hits and walked one while striking out nine — his most since he whiffed 10 for the Chicago Cubs on Sept. 18, 2020. Ryan Zeferjahn, Reid Detmers and Hunter Strickland tossed a hitless inning apiece for the Angels, who threw consecutive shutouts for the first time since Aug. 26-27, 2022.
Taylor Ward hit a two-run single in the fourth. Luis Rengifo and Nolan Schanuel each had an RBI.
Yankees starter Will Warren (4-4) gave up three runs in six innings while striking out a career-high 11. He retired the last 11 batters he faced.
Key moment
Ward's single off the glove of third baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. was the fourth straight one-out hit off Warren and extended the Angels' lead to 3-0.
Key stat
The Yankees are the third team this season to get shut out in three consecutive games, following the Cincinnati Reds (April 1-3) and Colorado Rockies (April 11-13). No team has been blanked in four straight games since the Kansas City Royals in August 2017.
Up next
Yankees LHP Ryan Yarbrough (3-1, 3.96 ERA) opposes Angels RHP Jack Kochanowicz (3-8, 5.53) on Wednesday night.

San Francisco women's sports bar, Rikki's, packed for Valkyries away game
SAN FRANCISCO — People packed San Francisco's only women's sports bar to watch the Golden State Valkyries take on the Dallas Wings. Rikki's opened less than a week ago but is already seeing success. A long line formed outside the bar just before the beginning of the game and continued well into the 4th quarter. "Crowded," Nicole Parker said as she was standing in line. "Crowded and doing well." Rikki's just opened last Wednesday. Parker and her friends believe the community needs this. "Finally! Finally! It's about time," they said in unison. General Manager Alejandra Cruz said the bar has been at capacity every night. "I think it's really just creating that safe space for everybody, where everybody can come in and enjoy a game and not feel intimidated by the environment," said Cruz. "Even if you're not a sports fan just a safe place to be able to come and just sit, be comfortable grab, and a drink meet with friends. I think that's the spot that everybody was waiting for and also what has made us so successful." The bar's opening coincides with the Golden State Valkyries' first season. Melanie Garcia is all in on both. "This is so awesome to be part of the ground floor," said Garcia. Tuesday, Rikki's hosted a watch party in conjunction with the Valkyries' first away game since the bar opened. Parker was there sporting a "founding guard" letterman jacket, a gift given only to Valkyrie's season ticket holders. "I think it just speaks to how much women's sports are becoming a thing that everybody watches," said Parker. "It's good for the young girls, it's good for everybody. How could you not support it? They're still not paid enough we're trying to generate more money, and I think it's a good thing." She had to wait in line until well into the first quarter to get inside, but that isn't discouraging her from coming back. "We want to support Rikki's," Parker explained. "I will come earlier next time, that's right." This is just the beginning for Rikki's. The bar plans to show every Valkyries game all season.

Carlos Mendoza Breaks Silence on Controversial Decision in Mets' Loss to Braves
Carlos Mendoza Breaks Silence on Controversial Decision in Mets' Loss to Braves originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The New York Mets improved on Sunday's 9-0 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays, but it wasn't enough to win on Tuesday. They fell 5-4 to the Atlanta Braves after third baseman Austin Riley's walk-off sacrifice fly in the 10th inning, extending their losing streak to four games. Advertisement Mets southpaw David Peterson delivered a quality start, allowing three runs on five hits over seven-plus innings. The veteran pitched to two hitters in the eighth, but manager Carlos Mendoza yanked him after he allowed a walk and a single. Although New York came into that frame with a 4-1 lead, reliever Reed Garrett couldn't bail out Peterson. Not only did he allow the starter's runners to score, but he coughed up another run on designated hitter Marcell Ozuna's game-tying double. Mendoza explained his decision to allow Peterson to pitch into the eighth, via SNY. New York Mets starting pitcher David Peterson (23)Vincent Carchietta-Imagn Images "Especially with the way he was throwing the ball, he's at 82 pitches before the inning started with the nine-hole," he said. "He walked him there, you still like your chances of getting a ground ball, he was getting a lot of ground balls, and with a three-run lead." Advertisement "It just didn't happen today, we were one pitch, one strike away from getting out of it," he continued. "We just couldn't get the job done." New York is now tied with the Chicago Cubs for the NL's best record and is two games ahead of the Philadelphia Phillies for first place in the NL East. Right-handed pitcher Paul Blackburn will start for the club against Atlanta southpaw Chris Sale on Wednesday night. After this Braves series, the Mets will finish their road trip vs. the Philadelphia Phillies.
