New Delhi: Despite calls by several former cricketers and stakeholders to break cricketing ties between India and Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack in April, the cricketing relationship between the two countries can continue in multilateral tournaments. According to a report by Cricbuzz, there seems to be growing confidence in the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) that the 2025 Asia Cup will go ahead as scheduled. The tournament is likely to begin on September 10. Where and in what format will the tournament be held? What is the status of hosting?
India is the official host of the 2025 Asia Cup. However, according to the pre-determined agreement between the BCCI and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the tournaments hosted by them will be held at neutral or hybrid venues. For this reason, the UAE is being considered the most likely venue for the tournament. Last time the 50-over Asia Cup was jointly held in Pakistan and Sri Lanka was in 2023. Popularity and controversy of Indo-Pak matches
India and Pakistan teams faced each other two times in the 2023 Asia Cup. At that time, the ACC was accused of deliberately scheduling the tournament in such a way that as many matches as possible could be held between the two teams. Indo-Pak matches are one of the most watched sporting events in the world, which also generate significant revenue for the cricket boards. Gautam Gambhir's strong opinion about Pakistan
Gautam Gambhir, the current head coach of Team India, had advocated a complete end to Indo-Pak cricket relations. 'My personal opinion is that until cross-border terrorism stops, there should be no relations between India and Pakistan — be it sports, Bollywood or art. The lives of our citizens and soldiers are most important,' he said in an interview to CNN-News18 in May. Next India-Pak clash after Asia Cup
After Asia Cup 2025, the women's cricket teams of India and Pakistan will also face each other. This match will be in the ICC Women's ODI World Cup to be jointly hosted in India and Sri Lanka in October. The two teams will face each other on October 5 in Colombo.

Leather hunt, some redemption, wasted chances: A look at Indias winless Test journey in Birmingham
Edgbaston [UK], June 29 (ANI): Team India will play their second Test of the five-match tour of England at Edgbaston in Birmingham, where they have yet to secure a win. The match at Birmingham will kick off on Wednesday. Team India trails by 0-1 in the series, failing to defend 371 runs against a Ben Duckett-charged England during the first Test at Leeds. The left-hander poured a heavy dosage of reverse sweeps on Team India's plans, completing the Three Lions' second-best run chase in Tests. Indian fans and players alike would not like to see their record at Edgbaston, where they are yet to win a match. Seven out of eight matches have been lost, while one has ended in a draw. In their previous match at Edgbaston back in July 2022, the rescheduled fifth Test of the 2021 series, India, under stand-in skipper Jasprit Bumrah, looked like a highly proud unit till the fourth innings. With centuries from Rishabh Pant (146) and Ravindra Jadeja (104) taking India to 416 from a shaky situation of 98/5 and pacers firing all cylinders, a defeat looked certain for England chasing 378 runs as they slipped to 109/3 despite a century partnership between openers Alex Lees and Zak Crawley. However, centuries from Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root left India searching for answers, hunting for red cherry in every corner of the ground. The hosts pulled off their highest-ever run-chase in Tests and showed the Indians what the hype of their 'Bazball' school of cricket under skipper Ben Stokes and coach Brendon McCullum was all about. The series ended in a 2-2 draw. During the 2018 tour, the biggest story was that of a superstar making up for a major career slip-up in England during his initial years. Questioned about his ability against moving deliveries of James Anderson and Stuart Broad, Indian skipper Virat Kohli defended, survived edges and half-chances and drove to perfection, scoring his first Test ton in England, a blistering 149, a major chunk of which was made along with the tail end. With a loud roar and a kiss to his wedding ring, the 'King Kohli' gave it back in style. However, despite his lone warrior batting effort and the sheer excellence of his bowlers, particularly Ishant Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin, the team could not chase down 194, being bundled out for 162 despite Virat's second-innings fifty, which helped England take a 1-0 lead. During the 2011 horror tour, when India was far from their usual competitive selves, Alastair Cook's marathon 545-ball 294 outclassed, tired out, and depleted Indian bowling and batting morale. India conceded 710/7, the highest Test total at the venue and faced a crushing loss by an innings and 242 runs. India lost the series by this point. Sachin Tendulkar's classy 122 in 1996 during an eight-wicket loss and crushing losses by 132 runs in 1967 (during which India was skittled out for 92), innings & 78 runs in 1974 and innings & 83 runs in 1979 are some other memories fans will keep with themselves forever. The innings losses saw double tons coming from David Lloyd and David Gower (1974 and 1979, respectively), which rattled Indian bowlers.

Viral video: 'I stay serious so that others can ...' - Gautam Gambhir on The Kapil Sharma Show
Gautam Gambhir (Photo by) Gautam Gambhir 's serious demeanour on and off the cricket field has often sparked curiosity among fans. Whether it's a high-stakes match or a big win, Gambhir rarely displays visible emotions or celebratory reactions. So, why does the Team India head coach always appear so intense? That long-standing mystery was recently addressed by the man himself. Appearing on The Kapil Sharma Show alongside Team India stars Abhishek Sharma , Rishabh Pant, and Yuzvendra Chahal, Gambhir finally revealed why he always looks serious. The episode, which airs on July 5, already has fans buzzing thanks to a promotional clip released earlier this week. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! During the promo, Kapil playfully asked Gambhir the million-dollar question: "Why are you always so serious?" To this, Gambhir responded with a smile, saying, 'I stay serious so that others can smile. Someone has to take that role.' Watch: While it seemed like a light-hearted remark, the deeper message was clear—his seriousness stems from focus, commitment, and a drive to bring results. And indeed, under his guidance, India recently clinched the Champions Trophy , marking a major milestone after years of near-misses in ICC tournaments. Poll Do you think Gautam Gambhir's serious demeanour helps motivate the Indian cricket team? Yes, it shows his commitment No, it might create pressure But that's not all. In the same promo, Gambhir also addressed his on-field confrontations. 'People often say I fight on the field. But whom am I fighting for?' he said. 'It's never for myself—it's for my country.' This was a rare insight into his passionate, no-nonsense approach to cricket, where competitiveness often translates to clashes but always for the bigger cause—India's pride. MLC 2025: Unmukt Chand's road to redemption in America Also featured in the episode is Navjot Singh Sidhu , who welcomed Gambhir warmly, despite their contrasting personalities. The teaser hints at plenty of fun, laughter, and candid moments. Gambhir may never be the most expressive figure in Indian cricket, but if this episode reveals anything, it's that his silence speaks volumes—and his seriousness, it turns out, brings joy to millions. Game On Season 1 continues with Mirabai Chanu's inspiring story. Watch Episode 2 here.

Asia Cup 2025: Uncertainty around Pakistan's participation continues with two months to go
The draw for the Hockey Men's Junior World Cup on Saturday placed India and Pakistan together in the same Pool, but the latter's participation remains doubtful. While the tournament is scheduled to be held in November-December, the Asia Cup in August-September will give a clearer indication of how things might pan out. As a 2026 World Cup qualifying event, the Asia Cup in Rajgir holds importance for continental teams, but ongoing tensions between the two countries mean Pakistan is unlikely to travel to India. Although recent reports in Pakistan have claimed PHF officials saying they would be participating and are preparing accordingly, there is no confirmation from either the FIH, Asian Hockey Federation or Hockey India. HI President Dilip Tirkey reiterated that they would follow government directives on the matter, and no alternate scenarios are being considered at the moment. ALSO READ | FIH Pro League 2024-25: Indian women on the brink of relegation after 3-0 loss to China 'We are constantly in contact with the government and have apprised them of everything. We will follow whatever the government instructs, and cannot preempt anything at the moment. Once we get that, we will inform the AHF,' Tirkey told Sportstar. Asked if the competition would proceed with the remaining seven teams or an alternative team would be invited to replace Pakistan if it doesn't travel, Tirkey insisted it was up to the AHF. 'This is a continental meet, and AHF will be the right authority to take that call. But that is a hypothetical situation that we cannot comment on till there is any decision by the government,' he reiterated. Interestingly, HI secretary general Bholanath Singh, in Laussane for the MJWC draw, is also an AHF vice-president. Any decision on allowing Pakistan to travel for the Asia Cup is likely to reflect on its chances of participation in the MJWC as well. Related Topics India
