WATCH: Somizi and Kelly Khumalo set the stage on fire with sizzling dance moves

The Citizen17-06-2025
Somizi Mhlongo, choreographer, actor, TV royalty, and flamboyant fashionista, reminded South Africa this weekend why he's still the king of the dance floor.
In a dazzling throwback moment, Somizi broke into spontaneous moves on stage alongside Kwaito legend Thebe, cheekily declaring, 'Thebe has a new dancer!'
The Netizens couldn't get enough. Add in a surprise cameo from Kelly Khumalo, and you've got a nostalgic dance party with two icons who've ruled both the stage and headlines. This wasn't just fun, it was a reminder of pure, unstoppable talent.
Back to the beat: Somizi dances into the spotlight
Move over TikTok dancers, Somizi Mhlongo, the original OG, will show you how it's done.
The multi-talented entertainer stunned fans this past weekend when he joined Thebe on stage and delivered a spontaneous, show-stealing dance performance. With that unmistakable flair and energy, he joked, 'Thebe has a new dancer,' while proving he still has the same precision and pizzazz that made him a household name.
This wasn't just a cute moment; it was a powerful reminder. Long before the gossip, gigs, and glam, Somizi's dance moves were his first claim to fame.
World-stage wonder: From Sarafina! to stadiums
Let's not forget: Somizi didn't just dance, he choreographed history. From his early days as part of the iconic Sarafina! cast (yes, the same one that played on TV this Youth Day), to creating the electrifying opening and closing ceremonies of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, South African music awards, Miss South Africa pageants, and Metro FM awards Somizi has long danced circles around the ordinary.
As well as being one of the All Gold's Dance Challenge School Tour ambassadors, he performs a dance alongside Bontle Modiselle and Robot Boii, visiting schools to educate and inspire children on making dance a professional career.
The 2010 FIFA World Cup, hosted in South Africa, was a huge moment for the multi-talented choreographer. Not forgetting his choreography on the 2002 World Summit, which is often not mentioned.
His choreography has touched the world stage, but this weekend was a grounding reminder that the dancer in him has never left the building.
Kelly Khumalo joins the party
When fans thought the video couldn't get better, enter Kelly Khumalo.
The powerhouse vocalist and Somizi's longtime friend jumped in on the fun, dancing beside him with equal flair.
Their chemistry was pure fire. It was less about the choreography and more about the vibe, two stars just vibing, laughing, and proving legends never lose their groove.
Netizens went wild.
One fan tweeted, 'Kelly and Somizi together? It's giving star power and rhythm!'
Somizi: The man, moves, Metro FM mic
These days, many know Somizi more for his hilarious love advice and fiery but sound critiques on Metro FM's 'Ask A Man' segment.
He's also the mind behind Sompire Kids, a fashion line for the youngest style stars.
But now and then, it's good to be reminded that beneath the glam and gossip is a dancing legend who helped shape South African pop culture.
And from what we saw this weekend, he's still got it.

‘Vusi Nova and I been talking': Anthony Hamilton hints at collaboration

Hamilton said he and Vusi Nova may go into the studio, after the Ndikuthandile singer had previously reached out to him. In his umpteenth visit to the country, US singer Anthony Hamilton has hinted at collaborating with South African singer Vusi Nova. 'Vusi Nova and I [have] been talking on WhatsApp,' said Hamilton in an interview on Radio 702. The Grammy award-winning singer is in the country to perform at the Women's Day concert, at Wanderers Stadium alongside his fellow countrymen Joe Thomas and Mzansi's Sjava, Zonke and Vusi Nova. Hamilton said he and Vusi Nova may go into the studio during his current visit to South Africa, after the Ndikuthandile singer had previously reached out to him. 'We maybe able to go into studio (sic). He had reached out to me a while ago, but I was on tour, me and Fantasia, so I didn't see it at the proper time,' said Hamilton. ALSO READ: Anthony Hamilton to celebrate 20-year anniversary of album at SunBet Arena 'I was supposed to be here' Hamilton is one of the many US singers who have frequented South Africa in recent years. In his radio interview, he shared that his first visit to South Africa was in 2009. 'It felt like I belong here, more so than any other place I had visited,' shared the artists who bestowed the South African name, Mzawandile. 'I've sat in Mandela's house, Madiba's house, on his couch. And the love that was in his home, I was able to absorb that in my spirit. It meant that I was in a place where only God could orchestrate for me. That I was supposed to be here…whatever that legacy was, I'm attached to it,' he said. Hamilton has visited South Africa at least seven times. He said coming to South Africa to perform is not only about taking, but also about giving back. 'I love on them, I don't just come and take, I give. My heart is open and it's intentional.' 'It's good to be back, I'm sure we're gonna take it up a notch,' he said. ALSO READ: 'This industry is not for the weak' – Vusi Nova Comin' back to SA The last time Hamilton was in Mzansi was in 2023, when he performed at the SunBet Arena Times Square in Tshwane. That performance was particularly special for the crooner because he was on stage exactly 20 years since he released his critically acclaimed sophomore album, Comin' From Where I'm From. 'What better way to celebrate my 20-year album anniversary, Coming From Where I'm From, than with an up close and personal night in South Africa. Can't wait to see you,' said the singer on his social media at the time. The album was nominated for three Grammys, the Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance, Best R&B Song (both for the title track) and Best Contemporary R&B Album. Although walking away from the awards ceremony empty-handed, the album is a critically acclaimed body of work. The biggest ditty on the album, Charlene, peaked at No. 19 on the Billboard Hot 100 and at No. 5 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, becoming Hamilton's most successful single to date. 'I was nervous. I wanted her to feel like a fairy-tale bride, so I immediately calculated how far along she'd be by each ceremony. 'The moment she stepped back into the room with that test, I felt our bond deepen. Life got even more intertwined,' the Grammy-award-winning musician added. The Rambanis have been private about their lives, and this is not the first time that they have made a shocking yet beautiful announcement to the world through a magazine cover. In June, the couple stunned their fans as they shared that they tied the knot in a private ceremony surrounded by loved ones, as they looked stunning for the cover of 'Previdar Magazine'. In an interview with "Batswadi Magazine," the pair explained their decision to keep their lives private. 'We realised that as public figures, there's so little of our private life that we get to enjoy just for ourselves. So these are the little things that we've chosen to keep sacred – the baby, the marriage and probably many more things to come,' the Rambani's disclosed. Fans and friends congratulated the couple as they embraced a new chapter in their parenthood journey.

Construction of the school will begin in January 2026, with the official opening scheduled for 2027. Seaton House promises to deliver an inspiring, future-ready education offering that meets the urgent needs of one of the country's fastest-growing regions. Set in Salt Rock, a coastal region experiencing exponential growth with as many as 60 new families arriving each month, Seaton House has been purposefully conceived to offer a continuous co-educational journey from Grade 000 to Grade 12. The school will launch with Grades 000 – 4 and 8 – 10, and operate under the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) curriculum. Its mission is to combine academic excellence, values-based education, and meaningful community investment within a nature-rich setting designed to support well-being and personal growth. Speaking at a media event at the Manor House in Sheffield Beach, Elwyn van den Aardweg, Seaton House Project Lead and former Headmaster of Kearsney College, explained that Seaton House isn't going to be just another school. 'We're not just building a school – we're nurturing a model for lasting transformation. Seaton House will shape young lives with courage, curiosity, and character. It's about more than preparing learners for exams – it's about preparing them for life, with all its complexity and potential,' van den Aardweg explained. Video Player is loading. Next Stay Close ✕ Seaton House was being developed through a collaboration between leaders in education and community development, including Collins Residential, REACH- SA, and Khanyisa Inanda Seminary Community Projects (KICP). The initiative was founded on a non-profit model, which ensures all surplus was reinvested into the school and surrounding community. In addition to its academic framework, the school will offer a wellness-focused environment with dynamic sports facilities, immersive outdoor learning spaces, and forest trails designed to bring learners closer to nature. Murray Collins, CEO of Collins Residential, emphasised the long-term vision behind the school. 'From architecture to values, every element of Seaton House is designed with intent. We are investing in something much greater than infrastructure, we are investing in the future of our region, our children, and the generations that follow. This school is a tangible reflection of our belief in sustainable, human-centred development,' added Collins. The school's 25-hectare campus has been designed by Phil Thornhill of TCRPV, with landscaping by Bernice Rumble of Land Art Studio, both known for their emphasis on environmentally conscious design.
