Kim Kardashian reacts to Paris robbery verdict with powerful statement

Express Tribune24-05-2025

Kim Kardashian has spoken out following the guilty verdict in the 2016 armed robbery case that left her traumatized during Paris Fashion Week.
On May 23, a French court convicted eight people involved in the high-profile jewel heist, while two others were acquitted or faced unrelated charges. Due to the defendants' advanced age and health issues, none will serve additional prison time.
Kardashian, 44, was robbed at gunpoint in her Paris hotel room, where assailants stole $9 million in jewelry, including a 20-carat diamond ring from then-husband Kanye West. In a statement, she expressed deep gratitude to French authorities for pursuing justice.
'This crime was the most terrifying experience of my life, leaving a lasting impact on me and my family,' Kardashian said. 'While I'll never forget what happened, I believe in the power of growth and accountability and pray for healing for all.'
The verdict followed a month-long trial where Kardashian bravely testified in Paris, recalling how she begged for her life. Aomar Ait Khedache, the 69-year-old ringleader, apologized in a letter read aloud during the proceedings. Another defendant, Yunice Abbas, 72, who wrote a book titled I Kidnapped Kim Kardashian, also expressed remorse.
Kardashian's legal team praised her courage and reaffirmed her ongoing dedication to justice reform. The verdict came shortly after Kardashian completed her law program, continuing the legacy of her father, attorney Robert Kardashian.
She now looks forward to putting the traumatic chapter behind her while advocating for victims and meaningful legal change.

Two dead and 500 arrested in France during PSG win celebrations

PARIS: More than 500 people were arrested by police during the Champions League final celebrations in France, and two people were reported dead and 192 injured, the interior ministry said as further festivities were planned on Sunday. Wild celebrations erupted across the French capital and beyond on Saturday night after Paris St Germain crushed Italian opponents Inter Milan to win the Champions League for the first time. The interior ministry's provisional assessment on Sunday morning was that 559 people had been arrested, including 491 in Paris, which led to 320 people being placed in police custody, 254 of them in Paris. There was one fatal accident when a young man in his twenties died in a collision with a vehicle, police chief Laurent Nunez told reporters, while in the southwestern city of Dax, a 17-year-old died from stab wounds, French media reported. 'A judicial investigation will determine whether or not it (the fatality in Paris) can be linked to the celebrations. At this stage, it appears to be connected to the festivities,' Nunez said. On the boutique-lined Champs Elysees avenue, bus shelters were smashed and projectiles hurled at riot police, who fired tear gas and water cannon to push back surging crowds as thousands of supporters who descended on the area. The interior ministry on Sunday reported hundreds of fires, including more than 200 vehicles burned. Some 22 members of the security forces and seven firefighters were harmed.

"We're at halftime, so to speak, as this afternoon we have the parade taking place on the Champs Elysees," Nunez said. "Only those attending the parade will be allowed on site. A maximum attendance of just over 100,000 people has been set — beyond that, no-one else will be allowed in. "This evening, there will be a celebration at the Parc des Princes as well. We also expect gatherings around the Place de la Porte de Saint Cloud, and we will respond in the same measured but firm way should there be any attempts to block the ring road, attack law enforcement, or cause further damage." Paris had deployed 5,400 officers in anticipation of celebrations following a PSG win, Nunez had said on Friday.

Wild celebrations in Paris after PSG's Champions League win

PARIS: Thousands of Paris Saint-Germain supporters took to the streets of the French capital on Saturday to celebrate their club's victory in the Champions League final, but nearly 300 arrests were made after some clashes with police. The majority of fans celebrated peacefully, but Paris police said scuffles broke out near the city's Champs-Elysees avenue and PSG's Parc des Princes stadium, where 48,000 had watched the 5-0 win against Inter Milan in Munich on big screens. Most of the nearly 300 people detained were suspected of possessing fireworks and causing disorder, Paris police said. AFP journalists saw police use a water cannon to stop a crowd reaching the Arc de Triomphe. 'Troublemakers on the Champs-Elysees were looking to create incidents and repeatedly came into contact with police by throwing large fireworks and other objects,' police said in a statement. Outside Paris, police said a car careered into fans celebrating PSG's win in Grenoble in southeastern France, leaving four people injured, two of them seriously. All of those hurt were from the same family, police said. The driver handed himself in to the police and was placed under arrest. A source close to the investigation said it was believed the driver had not acted intentionally. In Paris, most fans showed their joy by singing and dancing in the streets, with cars sounding their horns, after their team won the biggest prize in European club football for the first time in their history. One 20-year-old PSG supporter, Clement, said: 'It's so good and so deserved! We have a song that talks about our struggles and it hasn't always been easy. Lionel Messi double as Miami hit five past Columbus 'But we got our faith back this year with a team without stars. They're 11 guys who play for each other.' French President Emmanuel Macron's office said he would host the victorious players on Sunday to congratulate them. In a separate message on X, Macron hailed a 'day of glory for PSG'. 'Bravo, we are all proud,' he wrote. 'Paris is the capital of Europe tonight.' Paris mayor Anne Hidalgo hailed it as a 'historic' win. The PSG team will hold a victory parade on the Champs-Elysees on Sunday when tens of thousands of supporters are expected to gather to get a glimpse of their returning heroes.
