USC Assistant Drops True Feelings on Recruiting Ranking
USC fans are loving where the Trojans sit in the 2026 national recruiting rankings. They've watched Lincoln Riley and his coaching staff grow more assertive on the trail and pull off epic moves.

But how does one top Riley assistant really feel about holding down the No. 1 spot?
Defensive coordinator D'Anton Lynn broke his silence on USC's top overall recruiting ranking during his appearance with the Mason & Ireland show on ESPN L.A. radio. Sixteen of the 30 verbal commits hail on defense -- giving Lynn future talent to work with. That includes prized four-star linebacker Talanoa Ili.
But is Lynn himself basking in the glory of taking No. 1 in the class rankings? Or even getting caught up in the praise?

"I know that everyone is advertising this as the No. 1 recruiting class in the country. I don't really get caught up in where we are ranked," Lynn told both radio hosts.

He elaborated on what he really seeks each season on the recruiting trail.
"I just want the right kids, obviously from what they can do on the field but then who they are off the field," said Lynn.
He credited one newcomer for helping fuel these strong recruiting results, though.
"I feel like with the new general manager Chad [Bowden] and the scouting department being aligned with the coaching staff, we've been able to go after not just talent but going after the right type of kids that we want in this program," Lynn said. "You look at every single kid in that class, these are all kids you are super excited to coach. This is why you come to SC; to coach kids like the kids in [this] class."

Ili isn't the only intriguing commit for '26. Simonte Katoanga is coming to bolster the edge rush room. Jaimeon Winfield and Tomuhini Topui form an intriguing, imposing interior defensive line duo for the future.
Madden Riordan is one more prized commit. He's expected to man nickel safety when he arrives to the Land of Troy.

Jaguars scratch Travis Hunter ahead of preseason game against the Saints
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Travis Hunter was scratched Sunday by the Jacksonville Jaguars before their preseason game against the New Orleans Saints. Hunter, the 2024 Heisman Trophy winner out of Colorado and No. 2 pick in last spring's NFL draft, had missed practice in recent days because of what team officials have described as an upper-body injury. The Jaguars also scratched veteran wide receiver Dyami Brown, although it was not immediately clear why. Hunter and Brown both played in Jacksonville's preseason opener last week, a 31-25 loss to Pittsburgh. Hunter, a rare, two-way player, caught two passes for 9 yards and also participated in eight plays as a defensive back. Brown had 7 yards rushing on an end-around. ___ AP NFL:

Lokomotiv fans whistle Schalke's Antwi-Adjei after racist abuse warning in German Cup game
LEIPZIG, Germany (AP) — Schalke midfielder Christopher Antwi-Adjei was whistled by Lokomotiv Leipzig supporters after he appeared to complain that he was subjected to racist abuse during the teams' German Cup game on Sunday. Antwi-Adjei, who is Black, broke off play while taking a throw-in in the 13th minute, and subsequently spoke with a match official on the sideline. Referee Max Burda spoke to both captains while the first-round game was interrupted for around two minutes. The stadium announcer asked fans to refrain from using racist or discriminatory language. Antwi-Adjei was subsequently whistled whenever he received the ball. 'We couldn't verify it,' Lokomotiv spokesman Carsten Maschulle told Sky TV during halftime. 'We have a member of staff who uses a wheelchair who was exactly or almost where the player was. He didn't hear anything. We asked around a bit, but no one heard anything. The linesman, who is obviously standing nearby during the throw-in, apparently didn't hear anything either. That's the current status.' Schalke won 1-0 with Bryan Lasme scoring the winner in extra time. Schalke plays in the second division while Lokomotiv is at fourth-tier level after narrowly missing out on promotion last season. ___ AP soccer:

Liverpool will agree to forward deal if these conditions are met
Liverpool have already offloaded various attacking players this summer - including Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez. Those two have helped the club rake in more than £100m between them but the indications are that Richard Hughes and Arne Slot won't stop there. 🔴 Shop the LFC 2025/26 adidas home range 🚨2025/26 LFC x adidas range🚨 LFC x adidas Shop the home range today! We could see Ben Doak depart imminently for Bournemouth - with a fee of £25m seemingly agreed between the two parties. And Harvey Elliott too could make way if the Anfield club receive a fee of around £50m. 🔴 Shop the LFC 2025/26 adidas away range There are also players on the books who could be looking at a loan - with Jayden Danns and potentially Lewis Koumas heading out. Plenty of interest in Koumas Koumas, 19, spent last season on loan at Stoke City - playing almost 50 matches. He has been strongly linked with ANOTHER Championship loan move for the 2025/26 season but no deal has yet materialised. Sheffield United and Norwich City were among the first suitors named for the Welshman, who has already played and scored for the Liverpool first team. Given his nationality, it's perhaps inevitable that Wrexham have been linked with the versatile attacker and it's now been revealed what Liverpool's key demand is for the youngster. The Premier League champions want to ensure that Koumas receives as much game time as possible - according to the latest report in the Wrexham Insider. Wrexham told Koumas conditions 'Norwich City, Derby County, Hull City, and Sheffield United are among those chasing Koumas, but nearly half of the league have shown an interest this summer,' says a report. 'The key to winning this race, it seems, is in assuring Liverpool that Koumas will get regular game time. 'That's thought to be the key factor for the Premier League champions, and they will now assess the various options available to Koumas before making a decision.' © IMAGO Wrexham have got former Liverpool players Danny Ward and Conor Coady on board for the Championship season but have made a poor start to their second-tier campaign. They have lost their opening two fixtures - suffering back-to-back defeats to Southampton and West Brom respectively. Koumas therefore might bring an added attacking impetus for Wrexham as they hope to re-align their season and aim for Premier League promotion at the first time of asking. **🔴 **Shop the LFC 2025/26 adidas home range 🔴
