Michael B Jordan to receive American CInematheque Award
Michael B. Jordan will be honoured with the 39th American Cinematheque Award.
The 'Sinners' actor is being recognised for his work both on and off camera, including his philanthropic efforts via his Lutlier Society Fellowship and the HBCU Legacy Classic basketball tournament, and will receive the accolade at a special ceremony at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in California on 20 November.
American Cinematheque board chair Rick Nicita said in a statement: 'The career of Michael B. Jordan has been an unparalleled showcase for the combination of superb talent and purposeful vision that has made him a major power in today's movie business.
'He entered the ranks of movie stars with 'Fruitvale Station' and rapidly followed it up with iconic roles in 'Black Panther' and three 'Creed' movies, including his directorial debut in 'Creed III', with more directorial efforts to come.
'He has become a prolific producer with multiple projects across our business and his philanthropic activities are many and wide-ranging. Most recently, his outstanding performances (yes, two performances) in the worldwide smash 'Sinners' have cemented his place in the upper tier of movie stars, now and in the future.
"The American Cinematheque is proud to present the 39th American Cinematheque Award to Michael B. Jordan.'
The event is an annual fundraiser for the American Cinematheque non-profit organisation and last year honoured Jessica Chastain.
Other previous recipients include Robert Downey Jr., George Clooney, Al Pacino, Charlize Theron, Nicole Kidman, Denzel Washington, Ryan Reynolds and Dame Helen Mirren.
Hollywood megastar Tom Cruise heaped praise on Michael's work,in particular his collaborations with Ryan Coogler, earlier this week.
Speaking to 'Extra', Tom said: "Huge fan of his, huge fan of what he and [director Ryan] Coogler do together. Great film, great film.
"I recommend everyone go and see that picture many, many times. You know, you want to see it on the big screen."
Tom believes Michael, 38, is an "enormously talented" actor, and he'd love to work with him one day.
The 'Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning' star shared: "He's enormously talented, very charismatic, great actor. I look forward to, I'd love to make a movie with him.
"I've already put it out there ... Years ago, when I first met him, I was like, 'This guy, I'd like to make movies with him.'"

Jackie Chan thought Michael Cera was a competition winner
Jackie Chan mistook Michael Cera for a competition winner. The martial arts legend was at the BBC Radio 2 studios to promote his new film 'The Karate Kid: Legends', while Michael had been plugging his latest project 'The Phoenician Scheme', and when he heard Jackie was in the building, he couldn't resist the chance to get his photo taken with him, though he admitted the 71-year-old star had no idea who he was. Speaking to NME, Michael explained a photographer told him Jackie was in the building. He added: 'She asked if I knew Jackie Chan, which I don't, so she said 'come meet him'. That was that. 'When I met him though, he was like 'who is this person, what's going on?'. We took a picture but I think he thought I was a competition winner. "He was like, 'OK let's do a picture real quick. Come on.' Not rudely. But I felt like I was invading his little personal time with his team before he goes on the radio. "So I was like, 'What am I doing here?' But everyone was very sweet and I got to meet Jackie.' The 36-year-old actor is a big fan of the Beatles and though he thinks it would be "cool" to meet surviving band members Sir Paul McCartney and Sir Ringo Starr, he'd also find it "weird". He said of the possibility: 'It would be cool but also strange. I don't know what I'd say [if I did meet them]. It would be weird to say anything. They'd be so bored by whatever I had to say, because they've heard it eight billion times from every other person on the planet. It must be hard to be a Beatle.' Michael - who has two sons with wife Nadine - released his debut album 'True That' in 2014 but hasn't released further music since 2017's 'Best I Can' and admitted he simply doesn't have the time to work on any at the moment. He said: 'I haven't really been creating any music recently. 'I play music every day but I have little kids now, so I just don't have time or focus to do anything productive in that way. I hope to again though. "Normally [everything I make] is for a specific project or has a specific intention but it's just my time management [right now].'

Ryan Coogler speaks out on potential Sinners sequel
Ryan Coogler says 'Sinners' will not be getting a sequel. The filmmaker wrote and directed the acclaimed horror movie, which is set in 1932 in the he Mississippi Delta and stars Michael B. Jordan as twin brothers Smoke and Stack who return to Clarksdale wafter serving in World War I and open a juke joint only to be confronted by a supernatural evil. Coogler has told fans there will not be a follow-up film as it was always his intention for 'Sinners' to be a standalone story, following his work on franchises 'Black Panther' and 'Creed'. In interview with Ebony magazine, he said: "I've been in a space of making franchise films for a bit, so I wanted to get away from that. "I was looking forward to working on a film that felt original and personal to me and had an appetite for delivering something to audiences that was original and unique.' Coogler wanted movie goers to watch 'Sinners' - which also stars Hailee Steinfeld, Wunmi Mosaku, Miles Caton and Jack O'Connell - and come away with the feeling it was a "holistic and finished thing". He added: "I wanted the movie to feel like a full meal: your appetizers, starters, entrees and desserts, I wanted all of it there. I wanted it to be a holistic and finished thing. That was how I was asked all about it. That was always my intention." 'Sinners' has been a box office hit and has earned over $350 million at the global box office and it will be available on streaming platforms and VOD on 3 June. Coogler recently revealed that the plot for 'Sinners' was inspired by the Metallica song 'One', which featured on the metal band's 1988 LP ' ...And Justice for All'. Speaking to the San Fransisco Chronicle, he said: "I wanted the movie to feel like a song, so I used Metallica's One." The filmmaker explained how the song "starts off intense, then gets melodic and going somewhere just crazy. But by the time you're finished, it was clear you were always going to get there." Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich even worked on the score for the horror film.

Royal bride Lady Frederick Windsor says her wedding hair was 'disgusting' and dress picked out by her mother-in-law made her look 'barking' in candid new tell-all
Sophie Winkleman has shared an unfiltered take on her royal wedding, admitting her hairstyle was "so disgusting" it still upsets her husband, Lord Frederick Windsor, all these years later. The British actress, 44, married into the royal family in 2009 when she wed Lord Frederick Windsor, 46, the only son of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent. The pair met on New Year's Eve in 2006 after sharing a taxi from a party in Soho, where Frederick recognised her from her breakout role as Big Suze in the hit series Peep Show. Their wedding took place at Hampton Court Palace in front of around 400 guests, including Princess Eugenie, the Duke and Duchess of Kent, Lady Annabel Goldsmith, actress Jane Asher, Lady Helen Taylor, and musician Bryan Adams. But despite the grandeur, Winkleman admits she doesn't look back on the day with much fondness- largely due to her hair and the gown, which was selected by her mother-in-law, Princess Michael of Kent. "My hair was so disgusting and Freddy still gets upset about it," she told The Telegraph. "It was just disgusting. And my mother-in-law chose my dress, which was very sweet and puffy, but I looked barking." The gown, a silk design with lace sleeves and a three-metre train, was made by Anna Bystrova of Roza Couture, a designer favoured by Princess Michael, who reportedly took the reins on many aspects of the ceremony. "She sort of took it all over and I actually didn't mind at all," Winkleman added. "I thought, 'Great, do everything'. I was concentrating on this acting job and saying goodbye to my darling granny who wasn't very well and just doing other stuff. But now I look back on it and think I should have worn a simpler dress and I should have got my hair blow dried by someone who'd done it before." Adding to the whirlwind, Sophie and Freddie packed up and moved to Los Angeles the very next day to pursue work opportunities. "We got married on Saturday and moved everything, our whole lives out to America the day after," she recalled. Frederick transferred with JP Morgan, while Winkleman went on to star in Two and a Half Men opposite Ashton Kutcher, and wrote screenplays for stars like Salma Hayek and Penélope Cruz. "We thought we shouldn't just huddle in England but be brave, do something different, so we did," she told HELLO! last year, calling the experience "very interesting and freeing". The couple eventually returned to the UK after welcoming their eldest daughter, Maud. They now live in South London with their two daughters, Maud, 11, and Isabella, nine, while Frederick works as an executive director at JP Morgan. Winkleman says she's remained close with her royal in-laws. "Family isn't always brilliant but this lot are very sweet. I love all of them," she told The Telegraph. Back in 2020, she also told The Times that she hadn't had "a single negative experience" with the royals. "I was incredibly welcomed with open arms," she said at the time. "The Queen's been wonderful, Prince Charles (now King Charles) has been wonderful, Prince William's been heaven. "They'd never tell me off at all if I wanted to play some role. Everyone's looked after me. Oh God, please don't make me sound too gushing." Her comments contrast sharply with those of fellow actress-turned-royal Meghan Markle, 43, who, along with Prince Harry, 40, stepped back from official royal duties in 2020 and moved to California. Unfortunately, Meghan and Harry remain estranged from the royal family.
