National Investigation Agency arrests 3, including a prison psychiatrist and policeman, in prison radicalisation case
Searches were conducted at five locations in Bengaluru and Kolar districts, leading to the arrest of Dr. Nagaraj, psychiatrist, Central Prison, Parappana Agrahara, Bengaluru, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Chand Pasha, and Anees Fathima, mother of an absconding accused.
'During the searches, various digital devices, cash, gold and incriminating documents were seized from the houses of the arrested accused and other suspects,' according to the NIA.
According to the official release, the case relates to the recovery of arms, ammunition, explosives and digital devices, including two walkie-talkies, from habitual offenders who were allegedly conspiring to unleash terror activities in Bengaluru city with the aim of furthering the agenda of the proscribed LeT.
As part of the conspiracy, Dr. Nagaraj was allegedly smuggling mobile phones for use by prison inmates, including Tadiyandaveed Naseer (T. Naseer), a lifetime convict lodged in terror cases in Central Prison, Bengaluru. Dr. Nagaraj was allegedly supported by one Pavithra in this activity.
Besides houses of Nagaraj and Pavithra, the NIA also searched the house of Anees Fathima, mother of absconder Junaid Ahmed and allegedly involved in passing instructions from Naseer to her son for raising funds and handing over the same to T Naseer in prison.
As per NIA investigations, Chand Pasha had, in 2022, been involved in passing information related to T. Naseer's escort from prison to various courts in exchange of money.
The NIA has already charge sheeted nine accused, including Junaid Ahmed, under various Sections of IPC and UA(P) Act, Arms Act and Explosive Substances Act in the case. Investigations and efforts to track the absconder are continuing.

Bengaluru: A week after the mysterious death of 20 peacocks near a farm in Tumakuru's Madhugiri taluk, forensic tests confirmed the national birds were poisoned. Toxicological analysis of visceral samples collected from the carcasses detected traces of a lethal fungicide, forest officials revealed. On Aug 3, three male and 17 female peacocks were found dead near the outlet of a lake abutting a farm at Hanumanthapura in Midigeshi hobli, around 120km from Bengaluru. All internal organs were intact, but toxicological examination confirmed the presence of poison in their liver samples," said a senior forest official from Tumakuru division. Driver imprisoned till natural death for raping minor in Bengaluru
Bengaluru: A special court for Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act cases has found a 26-year-old man guilty of raping a minor girl. He has been sentenced to life imprisonment and fined Rs 25,000. MC Raghu of Nyanappanahalli, a driver, was arrested by Hulimavu police in 2023 after the 14-year-old survivor filed a complaint against him. According to the complainant, Raghu repeatedly raped her between Nov 2022 and March 2023. Public prosecutor Geeta Ramakrishna Gorawar said the survivor conceived and delivered a child on Sept 28, 2023. "None of the survivor's family members had any idea about the incident. The girl was taken to hospital after she complained of stomach pain, and doctors found that she was pregnant," she said.
