Notably, a gangster named Goldy Dhillo attributed to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang has claimed responsibility for the firing in a viral post. Assam Police Arrest ULFA-I Linkman
The Assam Police has arrested a man for allegedly working as a linkman for the banned militant group ULFA-I, officials said on Wednesday. The accused has been identified as Supritam Kaur and taken into custody by security personnel from Dimapur. Police say the accused had actively provided vital information to ULFA-I and has links with the banned NSCN group. A senior police official said, "Kaur has been actively involved in supplying key information to ULFA-I. He has links with another outlawed group NSCN also. The person has been interrogated to unearth further links with the banned outfits." Recently, the NIA arrested two more accused in connection with the recovery of an IED planted by the ULFA-I terror group at Dispur Last Gate, Guwahati, as part of a conspiracy to carry out multiple blasts in Assam on Independence Day in 2024. Bhargob Gogoi and Sumu Gogoi, both residents of Dibrugarh district of Assam, were involved in the conspiracy orchestrated by the proscribed terrorist organisation to strike terror and threaten the sovereignty, security, and integrity of the nation, said the National Investigation Agency (NIA). With their arrest, the total number of accused arrested in the conspiracy case has gone up to three. The NIA, which took over the investigation into the case from Dispur police in September last year, had last month charge-sheeted three accused in the case under various sections of the BNS, UA(P) Act and the Explosives Substance Act. The three charge-sheeted accused included Paresh Baruah alias Paresh Asom alias Kamruj Zaman Khan alias Nur-uz-Zaman alias Zaman Bhai alias Pradip alias Paban Baruah, chairman and SS Commander-in-Chief of the proscribed terrorist groups ULFA-I. The other two accused named in the charge sheet were Abhijit Gogoi alias Abhijeet Gogoi alias Aishang Asom alias Aishang alias Aishang Axom alias Rumel Asom alias Dhanajoy Moran and Jahnu Boruah alias Arnob Asom alias Huntu. Earlier in the month, ULFA-I claimed that its Eastern headquarters in Myanmar had been targeted by the Indian Army with drones in the early hours – a claim denied by the Army. The proscribed outfit in a press statement claimed that in these cross-border strikes, their 19 cadres were killed and another 19 were injured.

Tihar jail prisoner dies by suicide inside jail
A prisoner in Tihar Jail's hospital died by suicide by hanging himself from a window, informed the Tihar Jail officials in the early hours of Monday. Karmakar was under trial, while Saquib was convicted for his involvement in the 2002 and 2003 Mumbai blasts.(PTI File) The prisoner was an under-trial inmate, namely Ramesh Karmakar, who was lodged in Jail Number 4 but was undergoing treatment at the jail hospital in Jail Number 3 since May 28. Karmakar's body was found hanging from a window late on the night of Sunday, and the jail authorities were informed on the early morning of Monday. In another such case, an accused named Saquib Nachan in connection with the terror group Islamic State (ISIS), died in Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital, informed sources said on Saturday. He has been in judicial custody in Tihar Jail since 2023 and was admitted to the hospital a few days ago, they said. Saquib was convicted for his involvement in the bomb blasts in Mumbai in 2002 and 2003. In line with the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Saquib Nachan, a habitual offender in many previous terror cases, was also a self-styled Amir-e-Hind for ISIS in India. Earlier in June 2024, the National Investigative Agency (NIA) had chargesheeted Nachan along with 16 hardcore agents of a proscribed global terrorist network, in a conspiracy involving the recruitment and radicalisation of youth and the fabrication of improvised explosive devices in the Delhi-Padgha ISIS terror module case. The accused were chargesheeted under various sections of IPC, UA(P) Act, Arms Act and Explosive Substances ACt, were found to have been engaged in a massive ISISI conspirancy involving recruitment, training and propagation of Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) ideology among gullible youth, along with fabrication of explosives and IEDs are fund-raising for the banned outfit. Its investigation had subsequently led to the seizure of several incriminating documents and data relating to the manufacturing of explosives and the fabrication of IEDs, along with propaganda magazines like 'Voice of Hindi', 'Rumiyah', 'Khhiafat', 'Dabiq', published by IS.

ISIS Pune module: NIA arrests key conspirator from Lucknow; was on the run with Rs 3 lakh bounty
NEW DELHI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested another key conspirator wanted in the ISIS Pune sleeper module case, from Lucknow. Rizwan Ali @Abu Salma @ Mola, the 11th accused to be arrested in the case, was carrying a reward of Rs 3 lakh for information leading to his arrest. The NIA Special Court had issued a standing non-bailable warrant (NBW) against Rizwan, who was actively involved in promoting the terror activities of the designated foreign terror outfit, the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). As part of the anti-India conspiracy of the ISIS, Rizwan had allegedly played an active role in the reconnaissance and recce of various locations for use as terrorist hideouts. He was also involved in conducting classes/training on firing of arms and fabrication of improvised explosive devices (IED), as per NIA investigations in the case. Rizwan, along with the 10 other accused already arrested and currently in judicial custody, had conspired to commit a series of terror acts to destabilise the country and spread communal disharmony. Besides Rizwan Ali, the other arrested sleeper cell members are identified as Mohammed Imran Khan, Mohammed Yunus Saki, Abdul Kadir Pathan, Simab Nasiruddin Kazi, Zulfikar Ali Barodawala, Shamil Nachan, Akif Nachan, Shahnawaz Alam, Abdullah Faiyaz Shaikh and Talha Khan. All the accused have been chargesheeted by NIA under various sections of UA (P) Act, Explosive Substances Act, Arms Act and IPC. NIA on Friday said it is continuing with its investigation in the case as part of its efforts to scuttle the ISIS/IS conspiracy to establish Islamic rule in the country through violence and terror, by waging a war against the Government of India.

National Investigation Agency arrests 3, including a prison psychiatrist and policeman, in prison radicalisation case
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Tuesday (July 8, 2025) arrested three persons, including a prison psychiatrist and a City Armed Reserve policeman, following extensive searches in two districts of Karnataka in the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terror group's prison radicalisation case of 2023. Searches were conducted at five locations in Bengaluru and Kolar districts, leading to the arrest of Dr. Nagaraj, psychiatrist, Central Prison, Parappana Agrahara, Bengaluru, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Chand Pasha, and Anees Fathima, mother of an absconding accused. 'During the searches, various digital devices, cash, gold and incriminating documents were seized from the houses of the arrested accused and other suspects,' according to the NIA. According to the official release, the case relates to the recovery of arms, ammunition, explosives and digital devices, including two walkie-talkies, from habitual offenders who were allegedly conspiring to unleash terror activities in Bengaluru city with the aim of furthering the agenda of the proscribed LeT. As part of the conspiracy, Dr. Nagaraj was allegedly smuggling mobile phones for use by prison inmates, including Tadiyandaveed Naseer (T. Naseer), a lifetime convict lodged in terror cases in Central Prison, Bengaluru. Dr. Nagaraj was allegedly supported by one Pavithra in this activity. Besides houses of Nagaraj and Pavithra, the NIA also searched the house of Anees Fathima, mother of absconder Junaid Ahmed and allegedly involved in passing instructions from Naseer to her son for raising funds and handing over the same to T Naseer in prison. As per NIA investigations, Chand Pasha had, in 2022, been involved in passing information related to T. Naseer's escort from prison to various courts in exchange of money. The NIA has already charge sheeted nine accused, including Junaid Ahmed, under various Sections of IPC and UA(P) Act, Arms Act and Explosive Substances Act in the case. Investigations and efforts to track the absconder are continuing.
