Assam Police Arrest ULFA-I Linkman
The accused has been identified as Supritam Kaur and taken into custody by security personnel from Dimapur.
Police say the accused had actively provided vital information to ULFA-I and has links with the banned NSCN group.
A senior police official said, "Kaur has been actively involved in supplying key information to ULFA-I. He has links with another outlawed group NSCN also. The person has been interrogated to unearth further links with the banned outfits."
Recently, the NIA arrested two more accused in connection with the recovery of an IED planted by the ULFA-I terror group at Dispur Last Gate, Guwahati, as part of a conspiracy to carry out multiple blasts in Assam on Independence Day in 2024.
Bhargob Gogoi and Sumu Gogoi, both residents of Dibrugarh district of Assam, were involved in the conspiracy orchestrated by the proscribed terrorist organisation to strike terror and threaten the sovereignty, security, and integrity of the nation, said the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
With their arrest, the total number of accused arrested in the conspiracy case has gone up to three.
The NIA, which took over the investigation into the case from Dispur police in September last year, had last month charge-sheeted three accused in the case under various sections of the BNS, UA(P) Act and the Explosives Substance Act.
The three charge-sheeted accused included Paresh Baruah alias Paresh Asom alias Kamruj Zaman Khan alias Nur-uz-Zaman alias Zaman Bhai alias Pradip alias Paban Baruah, chairman and SS Commander-in-Chief of the proscribed terrorist groups ULFA-I.
The other two accused named in the charge sheet were Abhijit Gogoi alias Abhijeet Gogoi alias Aishang Asom alias Aishang alias Aishang Axom alias Rumel Asom alias Dhanajoy Moran and Jahnu Boruah alias Arnob Asom alias Huntu.
Earlier in the month, ULFA-I claimed that its Eastern headquarters in Myanmar had been targeted by the Indian Army with drones in the early hours – a claim denied by the Army. The proscribed outfit in a press statement claimed that in these cross-border strikes, their 19 cadres were killed and another 19 were injured.

Man attempts suicide as Mumbai police reach his home to arrest him in Pocso case
A 55-year-old man allegedly attempted suicide when a Mumbai police team went to his home at Badlapur in Thane on Tuesday night to arrest him for allegedly sexually assaulting the minor daughter of a bedridden man he had been hired to take care of. A police officer investigating the sexual assault case said on Thursday, 'The man was immediately rushed to the nearby private hospital, where he lay unconscious for almost 36 hours, and currently his condition is stable.' The minor girl's father suffered a paralytic attack last year. The accused, who was hired in May to look after the minor girl's father from 8 am to 8 pm, would sexually assault her and also make obscene remarks after her mother left for work, according to the police complaint in the case. He allegedly kept harassing the girl despite being warned by her mother. The minor girl and her mother decided to complain to the police after the man allegedly harassed the girl in her bedroom on July 28. The police booked him under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act on July 29. On learning about the FIR registered against him, the accused fled from Mumbai and went to Uttar Pradesh first and Karnataka later, according to the police. On Tuesday, the police could trace the man's location to Badlapur, and a team comprising two assistant police inspectors and three to four constables reached there. At around 10 pm, the man closed the door of his house from inside, threatening to kill himself. Although the police tried to console him, he allegedly attempted suicide. The police then broke open the door and rushed him to the hospital, said an officer who was part of the investigation.

Who Is Salman Iftikhar? Pakistani Businessman Jailed Over Rape Threat To Air Hostess
Salman Iftikhar, a Pakistan-origin businessman in London, was sentenced to 15 months for abusing a Virgin Atlantic flight attendant. He has a criminal record spanning two decades. Salman Iftikhar is a Pakistan-origin businessman based in London who hit headlines two years ago for his abusive behaviour towards a Virgin Atlantic flight attendant during a first-class flight from London Heathrow to Lahore. He was recently sentenced to 15 months in prison in connection with the incident. According to his LinkedIn profile, Iftikhar (37) is the founder and director of Staffing Match, a UK-based recruitment company. Media reports describe him as leading a lavish lifestyle, residing in a £2 million home and owning a fleet of luxury vehicles. The court was told that Iftikhar has a criminal record spanning over two decades, with six previous convictions related to 15 offences, according to a report in NDTV. These offences include a common assault charge in 2004 and a drink-driving conviction in 2008. Further, in 2021, he was fined £3,000 after being caught driving his Rolls-Royce under the influence of alcohol and cannabis. NDTV, citing local reports, mentioned Iftikhar reportedly wore a grey suit paired with a pink shirt and yellow tie during his court appearance. He broke down in tears as he was sentenced to 15 months in jail. A father of three and husband to two wives, Iftikhar was travelling in the first-class section on February 7, 2023 when he became enraged after being asked to stop taking ice from the onboard bar. Iftikhar, who had been consuming champagne as he travelled with his wife Erum Salman and their three children, verbally abused and threatened a flight attendent saying she would be dragged out of her hotel room, gang raped and set on fire. The entire incident was captured on camera by a co-passenger. The video showed Iftikhar accusing the flight attendant of being a racist. In the video, he was heard saying, 'You called me a Pa-i in front of everybody." When cabin crew asked him to return to his seat, Iftikhar replied, 'Don't tell me what to do you racist f—ing b–ch. I know where you are from in Cardiff." Isleworth Crown Court heard the case as Prosecutor Abdul Kapadia said Iftikhar's behaviour even forced the cabin crew to discuss diverting the plane to Turkey, the report further mentioned. However, the plane was not diverted and landed in Pakistan. The 37-year-old was arrested a year later, on March 16, 2024 at his home in Iver in England's Buckinghamshire. As per prosecutor Abdul Kapadia, Iftikhar knew the specific hotel, but also the hotel room numbers, and threatened the cabin crew. 'He told [the stewardess]: 'You will be dead on the floor of your hotel'." 'You will be dragged by your hair from your room and gang raped and set on fire," Kapadia said, citing Iftikhar. The victim, who was present in the court during the hearing, said: 'I am a strong, brave, happy stewardess, and loved my job… I was working when all flights were grounded on 9/11, and I've even flown into a warzone. But this incident has broken me." view comments Location : London, United Kingdom (UK) First Published: August 07, 2025, 16:41 IST News world Who Is Salman Iftikhar?
