Mike Micoli, longtime News 4 engineer, passes away

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Mike Micoli, a longtime engineer at WIVB News 4, passed away on Saturday after a hard-fought battle with cancer.
Micoli began his career with News 4 in May 1995 as an engineer, working as a truck technician and master control operator. He was instrumental in making sure newscasts from the studio and the field were flawless.
Micoli was the first satellite truck operator at the scene of the tragic Flight 3407 crash, providing news hits non-stop for News 4 and every 15 minutes for overseas networks. He worked until 4 p.m. the following day, working almost 26 hours.
Micoli also enjoyed working various sporting events in Buffalo, as well as the World's Largest Disco.
He will be greatly missed by everyone at News 4.

The celebration begins at noon on June 6 with a flag raising in Niagara Square in front of City Hall. The liberation flag will be raised to honor Black history and culture, and to celebrate the end of slavery in America. The parade kicks off at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 14 at St. Louis Avenue and Genesee Street. Paradegoers will march into MLK Jr. Park where numerous activities will take place during the festival on June 14 and June 15. Highlights of the festival will include an inflatable theme park, a science fair, carnival games, a heritage tent, and an African drum and dance class. Food, drinks, and vendors will also be available during the festival. There will also be events leading up to the festival, including a 2K run on June 8 and a praise and worship event on June 13, both at MLK Park. For more information, click here. Juneteenth parade, festival in Niagara Falls to be held June 14

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The Juneteenth parade and community art and cultural festival in Niagara Falls will take place on June 14 this year, five days prior to the official holiday. From 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., over a dozen local musicians, poets and dancers will perform on two stages. Local community groups, artists, and vendors will also come together to celebrate the end of slavery on June 19, 1865. 'Juneteenth is more than a date in history — it is a powerful reminder of the resilience, strength, and unwavering hope of a people who, even in the face of injustice, never stopped believing in freedom,' said Niagara County Legislator Jeffrey Elder. This year's theme is 'family reunion.' The parade will depart from City Market at 11:00 a.m. and end at the Niagara Arts and Cultural Center to kick off opening ceremonies. USA Sled Hockey Team honored at Bisons game

(WIVB) — The USA Sled Hockey Team was honored at Tuesday night's Bisons game against the Charlotte Knights after winning 4-3 against Czechia in the World Para Ice Hockey Championships earlier in the day. Team USA defenseman and four-time Paralympic gold medalist Josh Pauls threw the first pitch of the game. Pauls has the most gold medals of any sled hockey player and also holds the title of being a six-time world champion. Advertisement Team USA will play China in the semifinals on Friday.
