Chuck Todd argues Putin made a 'huge miscalculation' by not giving Trump a 'win' at Alaska summit
On his show, "The Chuck Toddcast," the former NBC host said Putin has a "very low regard" for Trump and views the president as "really easy to manipulate" after he refused to make any concessions, such as a temporary ceasefire in Ukraine, for the duration of the Alaska summit.
"Why do I say this? Because he's given Trump nothing," he said. "And, you know, he pays him lip service, right? He tells Trump what he wants to hear about mail-in voting. … What Trump wants to hear about is whether the war would have started if Trump had been president or not. But he never actually gives Trump a win that Trump is asking for, right?"
Putin Appears To Be Visibly Annoyed As Reporters Barrage Him And Trump With Questions
Trump and Putin met in Alaska on Friday to discuss peace in Ukraine as the war has gone for over three years.
Todd noted that Putin "couldn't even give him a ceasefire during the time that they were meeting in Alaska" or during the 72 hours that Trump was "playing shuttle diplomacy between Putin and Zelenskyy."

"That is total disrespect by Putin, right?" he questioned. "It totally should undermine the idea that Putin wouldn't have launched this invasion of Ukraine had Trump been president."
Todd contended that if Putin respected Trump so much, "why couldn't he just give him a temporary ceasefire?"
"I think Putin thinks he can just pay lip service and not actually have to match the lip service with an action," he said. "I think he's miscalculating."

Todd said Trump will eventually realize that Putin is "tapping" him along and that he doesn't plan on making good on his "lip service."
He argued that this is a mistake on Putin's part, because Trump may be the "most friendly" U.S. president that he'll ever face.
"To not enhance his reputation at a time when he's desperate to enhance it, not to help him get his ceasefire, get his peace prize, give him more credibility with the West with a guy that you have influence, really seems to be a mistake on Putin's part," Todd said.Original article source: Chuck Todd argues Putin made a 'huge miscalculation' by not giving Trump a 'win' at Alaska summit

Trump touts perceived wins while praising ‘healthy, attractive people' on DC federal patrol photo op
President Donald Trump has touted his perceived wins while praising 'healthy, attractive people' during a photo op to kick off his patrol with D.C. police and federal forces amid his crime crackdown. Trump met with local and federal law enforcement at the U.S. Park Police facility in Anacostia Thursday evening, complimenting the roughly 300 men and women in the crowd as 'healthy' and 'attractive.' The president also praised his own administration, telling the crowd, ' We've done a lot of good work, including the biggest tax cuts that you've ever had. ' This is a developing story...

Letitia James Gets Trumped on Appeal
When a New York state judge last year ordered Donald Trump and his business associates to pay $450 million for civil fraud, Attorney General Letitia James gloated that her case showed Mr. Trump's success 'was based on the art of the steal.' Now it's his turn to brag, after winning on appeal. On Thursday a panel of a New York appeals court threw out that unbelievable penalty. 'The court's disgorgement order, which directs that defendants pay nearly half a billion dollars to the State of New York, is an excessive fine that violates the Eighth Amendment of the United States Constitution,' the lead opinion says. It gets more complicated from there, because the five judges issued three fractured analyses that run 323 pages. But little looks good for Ms. James. One judge wanted to toss the AG's case. The law she wielded against Mr. Trump, Justice David Friedman says, 'has never been used in the way it is being used in this case—namely, to attack successful, private, commercial transactions, negotiated at arm's length between highly sophisticated parties,' and all profited. 'Plainly,' he adds, Ms. James's ultimate goal was 'the derailment of President Trump's political career and the destruction of his real estate business.' Two judges found the lower court's work so flawed they wanted to give Mr. Trump a new trial. As Justice John Higgitt sees it, the trial judge relied on an 'erroneous interpretation' of legal precedents on the statute of limitations. That judge granted summary judgment, yet 'failed to view the evidence in the light most favorable to defendants.' He 'impermissibly made credibility determinations not just of the evidence but also the experts.'

Global Mail Services Halt US Deliveries Ahead of De Minimis End
Postal services across the world are cutting off parcel deliveries to the US as the fast-approaching end of a tariff exception for low-value packages sows chaos in global shipping. As of Aug. 29, President Donald Trump is ending the so-called de minimis exemption that has applied to more than 4 million parcels processed by US Customs and Border Protection each day. In response, a growing number of national mail services plan to temporarily suspend service to the US as soon as this week, citing a lack of clarity from American authorities on how the duties will be collected and how to submit required data.
