POA reviews plans for upcoming events
The Council received a comprehensive briefing on the concept, programme, and arrangements for the First National Youth Games of Pakistan. It was emphasised that the Youth Games are not merely a multi-sport event for young athletes, but part of a broader, tiered programme that will reach the grassroots level to identify, develop, and polish national sporting talent. The initiative aims to provide the youth of Pakistan with a platform to showcase their abilities and progress towards international representation and medal success.
The house lauded the POA President for delivering this national initiative and for establishing the National Youth Games Council (NYGC), chaired by Mr. Rana Mashood Ahmad Khan. A distinctive feature of the NYGC is the inclusion of prominent corporate sector representatives, enabling direct engagement between business leaders and national youth and sports development programmes. The Council also noted with appreciation the keen interest of the Prime Minister Youth Programme (PMYP) and the constructive meetings held with PMYP, the Ministry of IPC, and the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) to ensure the successful delivery of the Games.
The house was informed that the National Games 2025 will be held from 6-13 December 2025 in Karachi. The Hon. Murad Ali Shah, Chief Minister of Sindh, met on 08 May 2025 with the POA delegation headed by President POA Mr. Arif Saeed, and assured that the Sindh Government will provide the best possible arrangements for the Games. The house also noted progress on preparations for hosting the South Asian Games in Pakistan and participation in the 3rd Asian Youth Games, Bahrain 2025, 6th Islamic Solidarity Games, Riyadh 2025 with ongoing coordination meetings and operational activities continuing to ensure readiness.
In its deliberations on governance matters, the Council reiterated the imperative of aligning national sports governance with the Olympic Charter and the statutes of International Federations (IFs), noting that relevant advisories from the IOC and OCA, duly shared with the PSB, remain unimplemented. It observed that certain PSB measures, if enforced in their present form, would place the NOC and NSFs in direct conflict with their binding obligations under the Olympic Charter and IF statutes.

Rouble weakens against dollar
MOSCOW: The Russian rouble weakened against the US dollar on Friday on uncertainty surrounding a possible meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. By 1350 GMT the rouble was down 0.7% at 79.82 to the dollar, according to data compiled by LSEG based on over-the-counter quotes. The rouble was down 0.9% against China's yuan, the most traded foreign currency in Russia. Putin and Trump are expected to meet in the coming days, the Kremlin said on August 7, as the US president seeks a breakthrough to end the Ukraine war, but no venue and firm date have yet been set for the meeting. The rouble strengthened by 1% on the news about the meeting but then started to weaken. 'Forex rates yesterday fell to two-week lows, driven by a surge of optimism regarding geopolitics. We do not yet see sufficient grounds, given the low oil prices and seasonality, to lower our target range,' said Evgeny Loktykhov, an analyst at PSB.
