Woman ‘thrilled' after becoming first person to become Flatpack World Champion
A woman has said she is 'thrilled' after becoming the first person to be crowned Flatpack World Champion.
The Flatpack World Championships, which is in its first year, saw eight competitors battle it out to build flatpack furniture as speedily as they could, at the opening of Grand Designs Live at ExCel London on Friday.

Taking a mere nine minutes and 33 seconds to build a bedside table, Hayley McAuley proved she had the speed and determination needed to become a champion.
'It's been a rollercoaster of a morning, and I am absolutely thrilled to have been crowned Flatpack World Champion,' Ms McAuley, from Wigan, said.
'When I first heard about the competition I jumped at the chance to enter as I've always thought I'm a bit of a machine when it comes to building flatpack furniture.

Ms McAuley was awarded with a golden Allen key medal and congratulated by Kevin McCloud, who was the host of the event and is best known for presenting Grand Designs.
McCloud said: 'This was great fun and hugely amusing.
'It was wonderful to see who took this seriously, and who accidentally sabotaged their own attempts to win.
'We had a really spectacular audience who found it hugely entertaining.'
The furniture pieces are to be donated to the charity British Heart Foundation.
Grand Designs Live will run from May 2 to 5 and is in its 20th year.

She won a stunning £3million mansion on the Wirral Peninsula and a £250,000 cash bonus. However, six months on, the 24-year-old full-time nanny from Gloucester has decided to put the luxury home on the market for £2.5m, £500,000 below its estimated value. The modern six-bedroom property boasts panoramic views of the Irish Sea, a wraparound terrace, and an outdoor heated pool. Despite being described as "striking" and "something truly special" in its Rightmove listing, Lauren has found the dream home to be impractical. After buying the winning £20 ticket, Lauren initially considered moving into the mansion with her partner, software engineer Ryan Mitchell. At the time, she was living with her father in a modest two-bedroom flat near Gloucester. It's crazy to think we'll never have a mortgage. It's life-changing." Despite the initial excitement, the couple soon realised that residing nearly 200 miles away from Gloucester and the expenses linked to upkeeping a large house were impractical. They only managed a few nights in the property before choosing to sell. "For example, although the pool is heated, it's outdoors and not thermally protected, so the heat escapes very quickly. Keeping it warm in the winter would cost a fortune. They've turned it off for now, but we braved it during our visit-and I can tell you that water is very cold." He hinted at an approaching move, although Lauren is presently still living at the family home. "Every week she tells me she's moving out, and every week she's still here," he quipped. "But what's important is that she's happy and doing what's right for her. And in both cases, she is." He further remarked: "I'm sure when they do move in, I'll be asked to fit the new bathroom and kitchen. And it'll be a pleasure." And I grew up in that environment, my sister went to a school like that." "That was probably the easiest visit of my time in Poland. "Because I've experienced that and I felt comfortable there." Coleen also visited a Spilno Hub, in Krakow, which supports families who've fled the war. She met Yuliia, her sister Olisia and Yuliia's four-year-old daughter Anastasiia. The star admitted the experience had "opened her eyes" to the reality of war, saying: "You think it is over, it's not. These people have been hit with trauma and it's hard for them to move on." Coleen had previously spoken about her love for Rosie in the 2023 Disney+ documentary Coleen: The Real Wagatha Christie Story. She had described her as being the 'sister that I never thought I was going to have'. Coleen added: 'She brought that little bit extra to the house. We fell in love with her.' Rosie was born on February 2, 1998, and was diagnosed with Rett syndrome. The rare genetic disorder affects brain development, resulting in severe mental and physical disability. She was adopted by the McLoughlin family when she was two-years-old.
