Beyoncé beats empty seats allegations on epic London return with one tiny error

Daily Mirror05-06-2025
Queen Bey was back at White Hart Lane and in her element in her country era to perform in the north London rain as her Cowboy Carter tour rolled into town ★★★★★
Beyoncé silenced the haters claiming she had 'hundreds of unsold seats' at her Cowboy Carter tour as she wowed an (almost) sold out crowd at White Hart Lane. Queen Bey even perched on top of a giant flying neon horseshoe to closer inspect adoring fans packed into the far corners of the Tottenham stadium and filling the floorspace.
'Thank you for all your beautiful outfits. Thank you for dressing up,' she tells them, surveying the sea of denim, stetson hats and sequins around her. It seems everyone got the Cowboy Carter memo and came dressed for a hoedown in north London. 'I postponed my wedding to come to this rodeo,' one fan sign reads.

While everyone is ready for the party, before she came on stage tonight, there were whispers that Beyonce's latest tour hadn't sold well and swathes of seats remained up for grabs. However, once the band kicked in for opening ballad American Requiem, it was clear that only a handful of limited view seats were going spare - which some fans seized the chance to move to in a bid to extend their dancefloor.

And Beyoncé has the whole stadium dancing with her all night long with already loved tracks from her country-inspired 2024 album to anthems spanning her entire back catalogue. She even throws in some Destiny's Child hits to the delight of the crowd to really cement how long she's been on top.
And on top she is, from flawless vocals and dance moves to a wave of bold stunts and spectacular visuals. In one section, the Texas native climbs on top of a gold-plated bucking mechanical bull as she gyrates without missing a note.
But this isn't Beyonce 's first rodeo, and it's no gimmick. Born and raised in Houston, Bey is a bona fide country girl, riding horses from an early age as home footage dating back to 1993 hammers home to the crowd.
The crackly video montage moves from Beyonce's humble upbringing to showcase some of her career highlights from singing at Barack Obama's inauguration to her obvious delight at performing alongside her idols Tina Turner and Diana Ross.
Beyonce's last world tour Renaissance arrived in London just days after Tina died in May 2023, with the singer pausing her set to pay homage with a rendition of River Deep, Mountain High. Tonight, Beyonce focuses on her country roots as she belts out her revamped hit of another idol, Dolly Parton with her female anthem Jolene.

As perfectionist Bey seamlessly moves between 'chapters' of her hits, the thrilling set comes with just one minor hiccup. While busting out some moves in the disco section, Beyonce's gold-sequinned chaps come loose and fall to her knees, leaving a backup dancer frantically trying to pull them back together at her hips. A temporarily frozen Beyonce' laughs off her wardrobe mishap as the crowd roars with support until she's to move again.
The night takes a moving turn as Beyonce brings out both daughters Blue Ivy and Rumi to the stage at once as she sings ballad Protector, written as a lullaby to them. Blue, 12, joined Beyonce on her latest tour becoming one of her stand-out backing dancers. On her debut, seven-year-old Rumi is already showing signs of the family's entertainer gene as she confidently waves and beams to fans while also singing along with her mum. No doubt rapper dad Jay Z was somewhere in the crowd proudly looking on.
As Beyonce's near-three hour set wows the crowd, not even the weather can stop her. 'The rain feels so good!' she cries. 'I'm having a good time with y'all tonight", she adds. It's the start of six nights at the Spurs ground and it already feels like the start of another iconic run for the unstoppable singer. Yee-haw.

Meghan Markle snubbed on birthday as royals and celebs alike fail to celebrate her in public posts

Meghan Markle appears to have been snubbed by the Royal Family and other high profile acquaintances as she celebrated her 44th birthday on August 8. The lack of well wishes from celebrities including Beyonce and Oprah marked a contrast to previous years. Meghan last received a public message from the official Royal Family social media account 2021, when she turned 40 - the year after she and Prince Harry, 40, stepped down from royal duties and moved to California. In response to queries about why the Duchess of Sussex's birthday has not been publicly recognized, royal aides have said they only mark the birthdays of working members of the Royal Family on their official social media accounts - but this differs from what has happened in previous years. When Meghan turned 41 in 2022, she received messages from a number of royals, including the Prince and Princess of Wales. The then-Prince Charles and his wife Camilla also took to social media, wishing Meghan a happy birthday on X (then Twitter). However, when she celebrated turning 42-years-old in 2023, the royals were all silent. Speaking at the time, royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told Newsweek: 'When Meghan turned 40 Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall and the Cambridges [William and Kate] sent birthday wishes. 'When she turned 41, the queen did not, but the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall and William and Catherine did. This year they ignored her birthday which has been represented in the press as a snub.' Fitzwilliams added that the release of Harry's memoir Spare, in addition to his 2021 interview with Oprah, had been 'extremely damaging' to relations between the Sussexes and rest of the family. And the royals weren't the only high profile people who remained silent on social media. When Meghan tuned 40 in 2021, she received sweet public greetings from Beyonce. A message shared on the singer's website said: 'Happy Birthday Meghan Markle'. It was accompanied by a childhood photo of Meghan, who sported a pink headline with a flower detail, and a button-up blue frock with puff sleeves. A number of reports have also noted how the duchess had a very 'low key' celebration for her birthday, having a small, private meal. But celebrity friends including Oprah, Serena Williams and Tyler Perry absent from the event. According to journalist Rob Shuter, a Hollywood insider said that while 'Oprah helped launch Meghan and Harry's entire media brand [...] that connection has gone quiet'. The Sussexes quit their roles as senior working members of the Royal Family in January 2020, before moving to the U.S. in June of that year, at the height of the covid pandemic. Following their departure, Harry and Meghan gave an explosive interview to Oprah about their experiences of being royals in 2021. However, while Meghan did not receive greetings from some of her acquaintances, her birthday was publicly marked by a number of her famous friends. Abigail Spencer, Kelly McKee Zajfen, Tracy Robbins, Jamie Kern Lima all took to Instagram to share gushing birthday wishes, calling the Duchess 'pure magic' and describing her as 'like sunshine in a bottle'. Meghan's long-time pal Abigail was the first to share a tribute to the Duchess, calling her 'Champagne in human form' and a 'sister in this life and beyond'. In addition, Meghan's As Ever brand has posted a gushing birthday tribute as she turned 44. Her lifestyle company took to Instagram with a black and white snapshot of the mother-of-two wearing a sundress and hat as she beamed into the distance. The caption enthused about Meghan and her role leading the company. 'Celebrating the woman behind it all,' it read. 'She pours her heart, vision and magic touch into every detail, and today, we raise a glass to her! Happy birthday to our founder.' It was then re-shared on As Ever's Instagram Story alongside two champagne flutes clinking together in celebration.

Only stars like Rihanna can get away with baring a baby bump, study finds

It's a celebrity trend that's seen as empowering, leaving no room for doubt a baby is on the way. Singers Rihanna and Beyonce and actresses Margot Robbie and Sienna Miller have all showcased their growing bumps in revealing dresses, cropped tops and low- slung skirts. But a study suggests that when ordinary women dare to bare in a similar fashion, they are more likely to be dehumanised and objectified – even in healthcare settings. The US scientists said flaunting a pregnant belly could have 'unintended consequences' for women who copy the trend. They compared the experiences of Rihanna, as a famous black woman, to two unknown white women. The singer, who is expecting her third child, has glided through her pregnancies in a series of skimpy outfits. She once declared: 'I'm hoping that we were able to redefine what's considered 'decent' for pregnant women. My body is doing incredible things right now and I'm not going to be ashamed of that.' But the scientists, writing in the journal Springer Nature, said: 'In all three studies, the woman revealing her pregnant belly was lower in perceived humanness. 'These perceptions contributed to the belief she would be an unfit mother and should be denied financial support.' Women who concealed their pregnant bodies were seen as more likely to be a better mother and more deserving of financial assistance. The report also suggests that how a woman is dressed for her antenatal appointments could influence the care she receives. Pictured: Margot Robbie while pregnant in October 2024 They added: 'Women with power and financial means are typically the 'influencers' advocating for all women to openly and autonomously display their creaturely or sexy bodies. 'These women have far greater protections against the harms of objectification and dehumanisation than ordinary women following their lead likely have.' Women who concealed their pregnant bodies were seen as more likely to be a better mother and more deserving of financial assistance. The report also suggests that how a woman is dressed for her antenatal appointments could influence the care she receives. It adds: 'Women who wear fewer clothes during pregnancy-related doctors' appointments may be perceived as less human.'

The South Western French city, known as La Ville Rose (The Pink City) for the terracotta tinge that defines its buildings, offers visitors new insights in all varieties, be they cultural, culinary, historical or future-looking. I was lucky enough to be invited to visit this great city and couldn't recommend it more as a year-round getaway for those wanting an eye-opening, stomach filling and brain stimulating experience. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Visiting Toulouse, the quirky and captivating French city. | FINN A distinctly French city but with a more modern and inviting complexion, Toulouse was crowned a UNESCO 'City of Music' destination in 2023 for the emphasis it places on supporting musicians and live music; while the continued association with the aeronautical world also adds to its essence as a place where life reaches upward. After catching an evening flight from Stansted Airport, I stayed the night in the comfort of the Mercure Hotel, which is situated in the heart of Toulouse's beguiling, winding streets, before beginning the next day with the most effective introduction to a city I've ever had. After breakfast me and my companions ventured to meet Chef Alejandro Javaloyas with his black cart in tow, from which he would decant every ingredient and instrument needed for the wonderful, informative and delicious Toulouse Gourmet Tour. The voyage took in seven spots, each of which provided the backdrop for a captivating tale on the backstory of the city, before we had a relevant dish made using a vast array of equipment from Alejandro's never-ending, Mary Poppins-like cart, to vividly bring the experience to life. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Alejandro Javaloyas takes us on the Toulouse Gourmet Tour | National World At our meeting spot, the Hôtel d'Assezat, we learned how blue de pastel exports in the 1500s brought unprecedented wealth to the city and the establishment of such opulent Renaissance-style buildings for the most successful merchants. The colouring dye was used for 200 years before indigo was brought over from the Americas, and during this blue boom over 200 of these mansions were built around the city, many of which are still in use today. We then parked up by the glorious Garonne River, where, after a devastating fire in 1463, clay was acquired from the banks to rebuild the city with a new, defining pink sheen that glistens spectacularly in the sunset. Nowadays the waterway acts as a perfect residing spot for the local residents and large student population, many of whom are engaged at the airport where the city's pioneering aeronautical industry is based. Toulouse is the birthplace of Airbus, which recently marked its 50th anniversary, and was also the home for Aeropostale, which was a pioneering aviation company that oversaw huge advances in air travel during mail-delivering trips to Morocco, Senegal and Brazil from the 1930s onwards. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad We learnt about this aspect of Toulouse at the Place du Capitole, a glorious space that also hosts a huge Christmas market, before turning our attention to the city's profound yet violent religious past at the astounding, French gothic influenced Couvent des Jacobins and in the quaint, communal surroundings of Place Saint-Georges. La Machine is a French performance art company known for its large-scale, mechanical creatures, including a giant spider called "La Princesse" | National World Javaloyas's background as a surrealist artist and experience in Michelin-starred restaurants, as well as his close, familial ties to the city, endowed his ability to captivate us tour-goers, and made his preparation of the food that bit more assured. Whether it was a pain au chocolat - or 'chocolatine' as the locals insist - crystallised violet sweets, Toulouse sausage or toasted baguette with goose spread, we felt in safe hands. After a quick break, my companions and I ventured outside the fairy-tale confines of the city to the Montaudran district, which is being heavily modernised after its long-standing association with Aéropostale since the 1930s. One of its central features is La Halle de la Machine, where you can discover a collection of street theatre contraptions designed and made by La Machine Company. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Members of the production collective took us around the warehouse of mysterious, interactive devices made from seemingly discarded items of wood and metal for a seemingly oblique purpose. Whether they were tentatively manipulating sound or haphazardly painting pictures, the machines were curious if not practical, and the experience added further to the city's quirky, intriguing side. Toulouse is known as 'La Ville Rose' - The Pink City - for the bright colouring of its buildings. | FINN The comparably down-to-earth mind behind the collective, François Delaroziere, then took us onto the former aircraft runway of the museum to tell us about the company's Pièces de résistance. While the scattering of instruments in the main hall was strikingly incomplete, the same could not be said for the giant, roaming minotaur and spider outside. The two pieces – along with a human-scorpion creature named Lilith – have previously been taken on escapades to various cities for street theatre performances where they have been pedalled around by members of the collective; soaring over the inhabitants of Toulouse, Lyon and elsewhere to François's delight. On the night we visited, they were utilised for the Mecanik Paradize music festival, during which they stalked each other around the energetic crowd (shown in the video at the top of the article) as though preparing for battle while French hip hop heavyweights Chinese Man delivered a lively set. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad The electric atmosphere was set in the sultry October night as UK dance music extraordinaire Fatboy Slim then hit the stage for a pulsating headline show that saw him rattle through hits including 'Right Here, Right Now' and 'Eat, Sleep, Rave, Repeat'. Toulouse is in no short supply of great places to get food. | FINN After such a relentless first day, our second in Toulouse operated as a chance to let our senses come back to earth and be gradually re-enveloped in the city's many charms. With plenty of restaurants to choose from, it's more a question of where among Toulouse's stunning options you want to enjoy your meals, with options available in the array of city squares or by the river and indoor options aplenty in the tastefully decorated confines of traditional brasseries and cafes. We returned to Plaice Saint Georges for lunch at Monsieur Georges before heading for a sensational three-course gourmet dinner in the stylish setting of La Gourmandine Côté Cathédrale, which was just a stone's throw from the city's unique cathedral that has a Frankenstein-esque mismatch of styles that is oddly charming. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Cité de l'Espace is well worth a visit and a great representation of Toulouse's close association with aerospace. | Rémi Deligeon In both cases, the food was definitely rich and indulgent, with the mushroom risotto at Monsieur Georges going above and beyond in terms of flavour and portion size, and the evening meal showcasing locally sourced, sustainable ingredients with superb effect. There was also more touring and exploring to be done with the help of the enthusiastic, knowledgeable staff from the Tourist Office situated at Square Charles de Gaulle, who gave us further insight around the city's endlessly walkable streets before taking us to La Cité de l'espace. Situated on the outskirts, this interactive discovery centre features flight simulators, a telescope and planetarium to give you as close an experience as you can to touching the stars. There's also a beautiful garden area with a lunar rover and an old space station that is great to walk around. With everything you can ask for from a city break and every opportunity to accustom yourself to it at your own pace, why not let Toulouse offer a little sheen into your life?
