N.S. man charged with sexual assault and weapons offences
Shelburne District RCMP received a sexual assault report involving a firearm on May 9.
Following an investigation, police say a woman was unknowingly given a noxious substance, held against her will and sexually assaulted at a residence in Shelburne County.
'Officers executed a search warrant at the home on May 22, seized evidence related to the offences and safely arrested a man who is known to the victim,' reads a news release from the Nova Scotia RCMP.
Robert Sean Williams, 51, has been charged with:
sexual assault with a weapon
two counts of uttering threats
administering noxious thing
kidnapping
voyeurism
two counts of overcoming resistance to commission of offence
10 firearms offences, including, but not limited to, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose and careless use of a firearm
Williams has also been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine and psilocybin. He was remanded into custody pending future court appearances.
Shelburne District RCMP is leading the ongoing investigation.

Sault firefighter sent to hospital after industrial blaze

Marie on Friday afternoon, with officials confirming the blaze was caused by mechanical failure. The Sault Ste. Marie Fire Service was called to the 500 block of Wallace Terrace shortly after 4 p.m. on August 15, where crews contained and extinguished the fire at an industrial occupancy. 'The cause of the fire was determined to be a mechanical failure,' said Aaron Gravelle, the city's public education officer, in a news release Monday. No injuries were reported among the public or staff. 'One firefighter was taken to hospital for precautionary reasons,' Gravelle said. Authorities did not provide further details about the extent of the damage or the specific industrial business affected.

One person has been charged with numerous offences after police in Timmins received a report last weekend that someone was injured by a gunshot. (File) One person has been charged with numerous offences after police in Timmins received a report last weekend that someone was injured by a gunshot. One person was seriously injured in the shooting and remains in hospital with what police said are 'serious, life-altering' injuries. Police received the report Aug. 16, which also included a description of the vehicle involved. Officers spotted the vehicle Aug. 17 and tried to make a traffic stop to identify the driver. 'The vehicle failed to stop and fled from police,' Timmins police said in a news release Monday. Vehicle struck a tree 'For public safety reasons, no pursuit was initiated. A short time later, the vehicle was involved in a motor vehicle collision when it struck a tree at the corner of Vimy Avenue and Waterloo Road.' After hitting the tree, the vehicle fled the area before coming to a halt on Borden Avenue. 'Police attended the scene shortly thereafter and observed the driver walking away from the vehicle,' the release said. 'Following a brief foot pursuit, the suspect was taken into custody. Incident to arrest, officers seized a quantity of drugs as well as a handgun.' A 30-year-old man from Timmins was arrested and charged with 16 offences, including carrying a concealed weapon, dangerous driving, drug trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime. He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court Monday for a bail hearing. Targeted incident 'At this time, investigators are still working to determine the identity of the shooter involved in the original incident,' police said. 'The Timmins Police Service believes this was a targeted incident.' Residents in the area are being asked to review any surveillance or dash cam footage they have from the following locations and dates: - Vimy Avenue and Waterloo Road area (scene of the collision) around 9:45 a.m. on Aug. 17. - Algonquin Boulevard and Fifth Avenue between Elm Street North and Cedar Street between 9-10 a.m. on Aug. 16. Anyone with video surveillance footage and/or dashcam footage is asked to submit it through the Timmins Police Service evidence portal here.
