Experts warn about domestic violence after baby, mother shot in Murfreesboro
According to Murfreesboro police, a dispute over loud music may have led to an altercation at the Chelsea Place Apartments. Investigators said the baby's mother and 24-year-old Marquavious Hampton got into an altercation that ended with Hampton allegedly shooting the infant multiple times. The mother's hand was also shot as she tried to shield her child.

'About 53% of the calls that Murfreesboro Police Department go on, on a yearly basis, are domestic violence in nature,' executive director of the Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault Center, Ericka Downing, said. 'We're the fourth largest county in the state. Unfortunately, as the population increases, so does crime.'
Downing said domestic violence cases have even outpaced the area's population growth. She urged those in these situations to seek help, and for neighbors to watch for red flags.
'The emotional abuse, the psychological abuse, the financial abuse — all those things escalate,' Downing said. 'And something innocent can end in death.'
According to police, Hampton was located in Williamson County thanks to license plate recognition technology. After running from deputies, police said he fatally shot himself.

'It takes, on average, seven times for someone to leave a domestic violence relationship,' Downing said. 'And each time someone decides to leave that circle, that cycle of violence goes around quicker and quicker and quicker.'

Browns RB Quinshon Judkins gets a positive update in court case
The Cleveland Browns have yet to ink a deal with second round pick Quinshon Judkins, largely due to a pending court case for a domestic violence and battery arrest in July. However, both Judkins and the Browns received some good news on that front today, as Fox Sports' Andy Slater has reported that Judkins will no longer face any criminal charges stemming from the arrest, as the prosecutors are declining to move forward with the case. Slater went on to add: "The decision was based on several factors, including late reporting of the alleged incident to police, no surveillance video, and no independent witnesses. The State Attorney says there were videos seen during the same timeframe that didn't show the victim with injuries." NFL insider Jordan Schultz then added that while he has been told that Judkins will return to the team and that it "should likely happen in the near future." This does not mean that the Browns or the NFL couldn't suspend Judkins; the issue is, however, that Judkins is currently not under contract. We'll see when the contract comes down the line, and when the NFL concludes their investigation of Judkins and formalizes any punishment. After missing all of training camp up to this point, it is inconclusive how soon the Browns will have the former Ohio State running back ready to go with just one more preseason game left after Saturday's matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles (that Judkins will not play in at this point). Boxer Gervonta Davis will not face domestic violence charges
Boxer Gervonta Davis will not face misdemeanor charges for battery-domestic violence because the alleged victim, Davis' former girlfriend, and the alleged witness, the woman's mother, failed to cooperate, according to the Miami State's Attorney Office. Davis, 30, was arrested July 11 and the charge stemmed from an alleged incident with his former girlfriend, who is the mother of his two children, on Father's Day, June 15, in Doral, Florida. "This case was dropped as the victim is declining to prosecute per her … attorney," Ed Griffith, Public Information Officer for the Miami State's Attorney Office, told USA TODAY Sports by email. "Her sentiments were directly confirmed by the Assistant State Attorney handling the prosecution. "The witness to the incident, who is the victim's mother, also failed to cooperate and failed, after being subpoenaed for a prefile conference on Thursday (Aug. 7). Followed up attempts to contact the witness via phone were unsuccessful. The incident itself was not observed by the police officer who had been called to the scene eliminating him as a possible witness to what had transpired." With the dropping of the criminal charge, the $10,000 bond required as a part of the pretrial release was dismissed, according to Griffith. Man arrested after girlfriend's decomposing body found in his Limpopo home
A 33-year-old man was arrested in Seshego, Limpopo in connection with the murder of his girlfriend, after her decomposing body was found in his home on Tuesday night. 'Police were called to the scene at about 23:35, where they found the lifeless body of a 26-year-old woman inside the suspect's residence. The victim had sustained multiple injuries. Preliminary investigations suggest that she may have been killed several days earlier, as her body was already in an early stage of decomposition,' said police spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba. The man is expected to appear in the Seshego Magistrate's Court on Friday on a murder charge. Provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, said the murder was 'deeply disturbing and senseless'. 'We urge communities to report any signs of domestic violence before they escalate to such tragic outcomes,' he added.
