Acid attack: Another suspect remanded for a week
Magistrate Rais Imran Hamid approved the police's request for the remand order to further investigate the 45-year-old man under Section 326 of the Penal Code.
The man, dressed in a police lock-up uniform and wearing a face mask, arrived at the Kota Bharu Magistrate's Court at 10.30 am.
Yesterday, media reports cited that a 38-year-old female suspect was placed under a five-day remand in connection with the case.
The spa owner was doused with a liquid believed to be acid in an incident near a convenience store in Beris Kubur Besar, Tawang, in Bachok.
The attack left the victim with severe burns on her shoulder, back, arms and legs. However, she is reportedly in stable condition and is receiving treatment at Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital (HUSM), Kubang Kerian.

AMPANG: A former aide to a Member of Parliament has been arrested for allegedly uploading a video without consent on social media. Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Azam Ismail said the MP, who lodged a police report, became aware of the 43-year-old suspect's actions on July 30 after spotting the video posted on Facebook. "The suspect explicitly mentioned the complainant's name in the post, which contained malicious intent and exposed the victim to potential harm or open threats. The case is being investigated under Section 507 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation, Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network services. Immigration officer claims trial to robbing Pakistani national
KUALA PILAH: An immigration officer pleaded not guilty at the Magistrate's Court today to robbing a Pakistani national of cash, a mobile phone, and other valuables in Rembau. Mohd Nazrul Md Yassin, 38, entered the plea after the charge was read before Magistrate Yusna Khadijah Md Yusop. He is accused of robbing the victim of a mobile phone, a passport, RM440 in cash, and an e-wallet balance of RM210. The alleged robbery took place at 6.10pm on July 11 in Kampung Miku Pindah. The charge, under Section 392 of the Penal Code, carries a maximum prison sentence of 14 years, with the possibility of a fine or caning upon conviction. The court denied bail and set Aug 14 for mention at the Kuala Pilah Sessions Court. Deputy Public Prosecutor Goh Hsiao Tung appeared for the prosecution, while the accused was unrepresented.

Govt amends Penal Code to combat online harassment and bullying
PUTRAJAYA: The government has introduced amendments to the Penal Code through the Penal Code (Amendment) Act 2025 [Act A1750], aimed at addressing harassment, bullying, insults, and identity misuse, including acts committed online. The law, approved by the King on Feb 25, and gazetted on March 7, adds new Sections 507B to 507G, specifically targeting bullying in any form. Offences include harassment, threats, bullying, insults, and the misuse of identity information, with severe penalties if such acts lead to suicide attempts or suicides due to provocation. Convicted offenders can face imprisonment of up to 10 years, fines, or both. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said urged all ministries, agencies, organisations, and institutions to update their internal policies and ensure staff are aware of the new legal provisions. "The public must understand that ignorance of the law is not an excuse. Clear knowledge of one's rights and responsibilities under the law is the first step towards building a safer, more ethical, and humane society," Azalina stated in a statement on Monday (Aug 11). Azalina also encouraged the public to seek clarifications directly from the Legal Affairs Division (BHEUU) or the Legal Aid Department, which offers free advisory services.
