KU earns No. 2 seed in NCAA baseball regionals. Here's Jayhawks' game site & foe
The Kansas Jayhawks baseball team is headed to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2014.
Third-year coach Dan Fitzgerald's KU team finished as runner-up to West Virginia during the Big 12 regular season and lost in the semifinals of the conference's postseason tournament. On Monday the Jayhawks were assigned to a four-team regional in Arkansas as a No. 2 seed among the national field of 64.

KU will meet No. 3 seed Creighton (41-14) in a first-round regional contest at 7 p.m. Friday at Baum-Walker Field in Fayetteville, Ark.
The other two teams in the double-elimination regional event are No. 1 seed Arkansas and North Dakota State. The Bison went 20-32 this season, winning the Summit League title.
The Razorbacks (43-13) finished second in the SEC behind Texas. They're rated fifth in the latest Division I baseball rankings and hold the same spot in RPI. Creighton's Bluejays (41-14) are coming off a Big East tournament championship and have won seven games in a row.
KU is ranked No. 25 nationally and No. 24 in the RPI.

Each regional will include four teams playing in a double-elimination format. The regionals will start Friday and Saturday and run through Monday, June 2, with the winners meeting in best-of-three NCAA Super Regionals the following week.
Selection of the eight super regional hosts will be announced June 3.
'This is really special,' Fitzgerald said. 'To see the joy they (players) are having and for it to mean so much ... To be a 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament in year three and lead the Big 12 in wins, if someone told me that I would have taken it all day long and more.
'We have an awesome group of human beings in this program that care so much. We'll have a good practice today. They're ready.'

The coach had no complaints about where KU was sent and the opposition in the Fayetteville regional.
'You look through this tournament,' Fitzgerald said, 'and this is true of the NCAA tournament: There's never a regional where you're like, 'Oh, man, that's an easy one for so-and-so.' They're all tough.'
Of KU's first-round foe, he said: 'Creighton has a really good team and is playing really good baseball.'

MSU basketball listed among top teams in Big Ten in latest preseason rankings

Texas TechCC: @FDSportsBook, @ Michigan State basketball remains just outside of the top 20 in the latest preseason rankings from one of the game's top analysts. Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports has released an updated batch of preseason rankings for the 2025-26 college basketball season, and the Spartans remain listed just outside the top 20. Rothstein has the Spartans at No. 21 in his updated version of the rankings that were released on Tuesday. Among Big Ten teams, the Spartans rank No. 5 in Rothstein's list but there is a notable drop off after the top three. He has Purdue (No. 1), Michigan (No. 5) and UCLA (No. 7) all in the top 10, and then next from the Big Ten is Oregon (No. 20) one spot before the Spartans. Michigan State is the reigning Big Ten champs and went the furthest of any team from the league in the NCAA Tournament by reaching the Elite Eight this past season. However, the Spartans have lost a number of key pieces off that highly-successful team, including leading scorers Jase Richardson and Jaden Akins -- so many like Rothstein anticipate a step back from the Spartans next season. As I've said during most of this offseason, I feel like anywhere from No. 15 to No. 25 is about right for the Spartans in next year's preseason poll. I would be quite surprised if they were any higher than No. 15 and shocked if they were unranked when the official preseason polls drop in a few months. Oklahoma QB John Mateer denies gambling, says Venmo transaction titles were ‘inside jokes'
Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer says he has never gambled, and the school says there is no NCAA investigation after a recent report showed Mateer twice paid someone on Venmo in 2022 for 'sports gambling.' 'The allegations that I once participated in sports gambling are false,' Mateer said in a statement Tuesday on social media. 'My previous Venmo descriptions did not accurately portray the transactions in question but were instead inside jokes between me and my friends.' Mateer, who was at Washington State during the time in question, said he can understand why the Venmo descriptions could lead one to believe otherwise, so he decided to set the record straight. 'I have never bet on sports,' he said. 'I understand the seriousness of the matter, but recognize that, taken out of context, those Venmo descriptions suggest otherwise. I can assure my teammates, coaches, and officials at the NCAA that I have not engaged in any sports gambling.' In a statement, Oklahoma said it uses ProhiBet for comprehensive monitoring of sports gambling activities. 'OU takes any allegations of gambling seriously and works closely with the NCAA in any situations of concern,' the statement said. 'OU Athletics is unaware of any NCAA investigation and has no reason to believe there is one pending.' Mateer followed former Washington State offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle to Oklahoma this past offseason. Mateer passed for 3,139 yards with 29 touchdowns and just seven interceptions and ran for 826 yards and 15 scores last season. Mateer was one of three players who accompanied Oklahoma coach Brent Venables at SEC Media Days in July. Venables and Oklahoma's players have raved consistently about Mateer's leadership. He's considered one of the nation's top transfers and a key reason the Sooners open the season ranked No. 18 in the AP Top 25.
