Dogs chase and savage young deer at Aberdeen park
Wildlife rescue teams discovered a scene of horror after a trapped deer was brutally mauled by dogs near an Aberdeen park.
The young animal was chased into the fence and became stuck before it was savaged by the two off-the-lead dogs.
It was still alive when staff from New Arc Wildlife Rescue arrived to offer aid but they were dismayed to discover the severity of its injuries.
The wounds were so serious that they confirmed the deer had to be euthanised at the scene.
The animal was found injured in a small grass park area at Erroll Place, near King Street, at around 7.30pm on Sunday.
It is reported that the injuries were caused by an Alsatian-type dog and another smaller breed which chased the deer.
Following the attack, Aberdeen dog owners are being urged to keep their pets on a lead.
A New Arc Wildlife Rescue spokesperson said: 'Our advice is the same as the British Deer Society.
'Please keep your dogs on leads, especially when in parks or wild areas.
'Most of the time when we attend these types of scenes, if the dog owner is there they state that their dog has never done anything like it before.'
Deer birthing season peaks between May and July, so it is more likely dog walkers will encounter pregnant and new-born deer during these months.
And the British Deer Society advises that even well trained dogs can chase deer instinctively.

A man has since been arrested in connection with the incident at the Craft Beer Cave in Penrhyn Bay, Conwy yesterday evening (Thursday, June 5). A 42-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drink driving, driving without a licence, driving with no insurance, failing to stop, and dangerous driving. He remains in police custody. Bar owners Roland Edwards and Beverley Williams were clearing up after closing the bar when they heard the sound of a car braking. It was around 8.40pm. Beverley said: 'I was chatting to three customers and we heard the sound of tyres screeching way before the car hit the building - it must have gone on for 10-15 seconds. 'The whole building shook. The noise was horrendous - it woke up a friend of mine at the back of her house 200 yards away. Although we were inside, we knew immediately what must have happened. 'For a few seconds we stood there in shock before going outside to see what had happened." She said when they got out the car had gone from the scene. She added: 'How he missed the roadside bollards and lamppost, I don't know. Luckily, our bins are placed by the wall and they took some of the impact. You could see the tyre marks for 200 yards where the car had been braking hard.' Photos show cracks in the wall, damaged fencing and a series of squashed waste bins. Beverley said: 'The damage is actually worse than it looks in the photos because the wall has bulged in. "Hopefully it's only superficial and we can keep going. But as small buisiness owners, this is something we could do without.'
