Dog sitter filmed dragging hounds by necks banned from boarding animals
A rogue dog sitter has been banned from boarding animals at her property in Aberdeenshire after a disturbing video of her dragging dogs by their necks emerged online.
Kiki Sutherland, who is in her 60s, was filmed hauling the pets around a garden at a house in Monymusk in the horrifying clip. In the footage, which was revealed by the Record earlier this week, Sutherland could be seen marching around the garden with the scruff of a Dachshund-type dog in her fist.
She is then seen walking towards a Spaniel before grabbing it by the back of its neck, yanking it back, picking it up and throttling its loose skin. Aberdeenshire Council has been investigating the matter and have since found that Sutherland - who it is understood advertises a home boarding service for dogs - did not have a licence to look after the animals.
The council has now written a letter to Sutherland warning her that any commercial boarding of animals must cease at the premises immediately. The Scottish Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA), meanwhile, has confirmed it is still investigating the incident.
The Record previously spoke to the owner of the two-year-old spaniel involved in the sickening scene. Mark Lawrie said he was left "horrified" after watching the clip.
The 55-year-old said: "I was sent the clip and I was absolutely horrified watching it. She was so heavy handed with my dog, Buddy, when she didn't need to be at all.
" Buddy is the most loving and affectionate dog with the sweetest nature - he's obedient and does most things you say.
"You put your dog into the trust of someone else because you think they'll take good care of them. It makes me feel sick that someone could handle Buddy like this when he is so gentle."
On Facebook, Sutherland is the admin of a private pet group called 'Crazy Dog Crew'. Mark handed Buddy over to Sutherland for two weeks after his other dog came into season.
He claims that she is known in the area for doing dog walks and boarding, and he trusted her through word of mouth. But Mark said she offered to look after Buddy for free.
He continued: "She took Buddy as a favour for me and no money was exchanged but it obviously raises concern if this is how she is treating animals. Whether or not she takes money from others for it, I do not know, but I'm not happy with how she treated Buddy and my wife was crying after watching the clip.
"She didn't need to manhandle him like that and she knows it. He would have just followed her to wherever she was going. She didn't need to use such force."
An Aberdeenshire Council spokesperson said: 'Our investigation has concluded. A warning letter has been issued advising that any commercial boarding of animals would require a licence and that the premises does not currently hold such a licence, therefore any commercial boarding of animals must cease at the premises. Any unlicensed boarding of animals may be reported to the Fiscal.'
A spokesperson for SSPCA said: "I can confirm that this has been reported to the SSPCA and is being investigated. We are not able to provide any further comment into ongoing investigations."

'They were just trying to enjoy their retirement.' Michele was last seen on a sun bed at Ofryni beach on August 1, where she had been lying by her husband. Mr Bourda is said to have woken up to find her missing and her belongings abandoned before raising the alarm . There had been reports that Michele had been seen swimming out at sea prior to her disappearance but no sign of her was found despite a major search operation by Greece's Hellenic Coast Guard. It is reported that three recreational craft, five fishing boats as well as two patrol boats were involved in looking for her. Greek missing persons charity Lifeline Hellas put out a Silver Alert after police were unable to locate her. It read: 'Her life is in danger. If you know anything, contact the Silver Alert service.' The mum was wearing a dark two-piece swimsuit with rhinestones, yellow beach shoes and red sunglasses when she vanished. On Tuesday, a fresh image released to the media in Greece showed her eating alongside her husband at a beach-side restaurant on the morning of her disappearance. A local shopkeeper told the Greek media that Michele's husband had visited his store looking for his wife soon after she vanished. There was no one at the couple's four-bed, detached home in Crookston on Wednesday, but neighbours shared their fears over the length of the search. John and Catherine Ross said they were thinking of Michele's husband and son. John said: 'Of course we're thinking of them. It's a horrible thing to go through. I hope their son is ok. Another resident of the quiet cul-de-sac said: 'It's a shock that this has happened to a neighbour and obviously the longer it goes on the more you worry about the outcome.' The British embassy in Greece shared a notice on Facebook which said: "On the day she went missing, she was wearing a swimsuit with decorative stones, yellow water shoes and red plastic sunglasses. Her life is in danger.'

Brave Glasgow lad saves subway passenger 'seconds from death' after falling onto tracks

A brave Glasgow lad out on a 'sub-crawl' saved a complete stranger from death, after he fell onto the tracks 20 seconds before a train arrived. Mitchell Rowan, 20, leapt onto live tracks and hauled a man who had stumbled and fallen onto the tracks just one minute before the next subway was due to arrive. He had been out with five friends, taking on the city's famous sub-crawl, which involves visiting bars at each stop on the Clockwork Orange. They were on their third stop when the horror incident unfolded, on Saturday, July 26 around 8.30pm. He told the Record: 'Me and my mates were on the sub crawl. We were only three stops in at Kelvinhall. There was a guy who must have been drinking as he was staggering about a bit. 'I went down to tie my lace and the guy just suddenly fell, he had banged his head off the track and he was just lying there unconscious. The train was approaching in a minute. 'Two of my pals were trying to lean down to pull him back up. I could see the lights and hear the train coming. I just decided to jump on the track and lift the guy off." Quick-thinking Mitchell valiantly risked his own life, in front of his stunned mates, to lift the stranger to safety - narrowly escaping the oncoming train. Mitchell continued: 'I managed to lift him and get him on the platform, the train arrived 10 to 20 seconds later. It was a split second decision. All I could think about was saving him and getting him out of danger. 'I don't think I could have faced the thought of not doing anything to help him. If the train hit him it would have been horrendous for everyone involved.' Mitchell and his pals, John Devine, 21, Luke Robertson, 21, Sam Riley, 20, and Nairn Sandlan, 19, rushed upstairs to quickly alert the station's security team who called an ambulance. Mitchell said: 'The station was really quiet at the time; it was mostly my mates and just a small group of people. This woman who was a bit older was actually a trained paramedic so she began to give the guy medical attention. 'The other passengers were shocked and full of praise for us but the subway team didn't even acknowledge it. All the focus was on the guy and getting him treated. 'Paramedics arrived and took the guy to hospital.' Mitchell says he would love to know how the guy is doing and hopefully meet him one day. He said: 'The guy was probably in his 40s. He was just on a night out as well and ended up in a bad way. 'I know he was taken to hospital in Glasgow but I don't know much else.' The book printing worker says friends and family have lauded his actions and branded him a hero. He said: 'I guess I'm really humble about it. I just did what I think anyone would do in that situation. It was just human instinct, I guess. 'I just hope the guy is okay and he makes a full recovery.' A British Transport Police spokesperson said: "Officers were called to reports of a concern for welfare at Kelvinhall station on Saturday 26 July just after 9.20pm. "Officers attended and a man was treated by paramedics before being taken to hospital for further checks. An SPT spokesperson said: 'We would like to thank all those involved in assisting a passenger when he fell off the platform at Kelvinhall. "Their swift actions saw everyone involved clear of the track well before a train was due in the station and emergency services were not required. We would ask all passengers to take care on platforms when travelling by Subway.'
