Soccer-Chengdu, Al-Duhail secure progress in Asian Champions League Elite
Brazilian striker Felipe scored twice after Yang Ming-yang's header had given Chengdu a 68th minute lead to see off the Thai side, ensuring coach Seo Jung-won and his team will be included in Friday's draw for the league phase in Kuala Lumpur.
Yang met Romulo's corner to put Chengdu in front and Felipe doubled the lead three minutes later as he latched onto a ball over the top of the Bangkok United defence.
Felipe added the third with six minutes remaining at the end of another incisive counterattack.
Al-Duhail, meanwhile, came back from going behind to a third minute close-range strike by Amin Hazbavi to progress.
Ibrahima Bamba powered his header into the top corner in the 11th minute to level the scores and Adil Boulbina put his side in front 13 minutes later with a stunning strike past Seyed Hossein Hosseini.
Krzysztof Piatek hit Al-Duhail's third in the 33rd minute at the end of a rapid break and the Qatari side held on despite conceding in the 93rd minute, when Milan Zakipour netted from close range.
Twenty-four clubs will compete in the league phase of the Asian Champions League Elite when it returns in September, with the participants split evenly into western and eastern leagues.
The top eight finishers on each side of the confederation will advance to the knockout rounds with the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final due to be played centrally in Saudi Arabia next April and May.

The visitors from the east had given away a goal after New Zealand winger Dane Ingham gave an own goal in the 65th minute. But the Rhinos did not give up in their first league match. They pushed on and eventually managed to score an equaliser in injury time through Brazilian Gabriel Peres. The late goal had ruined Kuala Lumpur's night at home, as they looked to have started well by beating Immigration 3-0 last Saturday. Meanwhile, Melaka's opening game saw them come from behind to secure a 1-1 draw against Penang at the Hang Jebat Stadium. Australia's Dylan Wenzel-Halls had given the visitors the lead in the 29th minute, but Juan Douglas Teles da Silva leveled things up in the 69th minute. It was also a draw in Terengganu as they saw their match against Police end 2-2 at the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium. Police's Bernard Doumbia was on form as he scored both goals to give his side the lead in the 12th and 53rd minutes. Five rising stars from South-East Asia, and all of them from Thailand, proved their worth in fine style after earning their spots in South-East Asia's biggest women's golf tournament - the Maybank Championships - on Wednesday (Aug 13). The Thai golfers indeed flexed their strength in women's golf by sweeping all five qualifying slots at the Maybank Championship Asean Qualifiers held at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club in Bukit Kiara. Kritchanya Kaopattanaskul came out tops after carding a two-day seven-under 137 while Achiraya Sriwong (five-under 139) and Namo Luangnitikul (even-par 144) rounded out a top-three sweep by amateurs. Cholcheva Wongras (two-over 146) and Kan Bunnabodee were joint-fourth, claiming the remaining two qualifying slots. Malaysia's Ng Jing Xuen and Genevieve Ling, however, came up short, finishing just one stroke behind. The duo shared sixth spot on three-over 147. 'I'm thrilled to know that I have qualified to play in the Maybank Championship on the LPGA Tour. It means a lot to me. "It'll be my first professional tournament outside of Thailand. I hope I can play as well in October as I did over the past two days in front of my Malaysian friends,' said the 17-year-old Kritchanya, reflecting on the moment that propelled her onto the LPGA stage.
