Hakim Ziyech's contract with Al-Duhail officially ends after one season
Al-Duhail SC has officially announced the departure of Moroccan international Hakim Ziyech, confirming the end of his contract with the club's first team. In a statement shared on the club's official channels, Al-Duhail stated that Ziyech's contract concluded at the end of the 2024–2025 season, and he will not be part of the team moving forward. The 31-year-old winger joined Al-Duhail in January on a free transfer after terminating his contract with Turkish side Galatasaray. Ziyech has had an eventful career, playing for several clubs since starting out in 2015, including Heerenveen, Twente, and Ajax in the Netherlands, Chelsea in England, and Galatasaray in Turkey, where he featured in 11 matches across all competitions this season. During his time at Galatasaray, Ziyech played five matches in the Turkish Super Lig, three in the Europa League, two in the Champions League qualifiers, and one in the Turkish Cup. At Al-Duhail, he made nine appearances in the Qatar Stars League, scoring once. Al-Duhail finished the current Qatar Stars League season in second place, lost the Qatar Cup final to Al-Sadd, and exited the Emir Cup at the quarterfinal stage after a defeat to Al-Rayyan.

Saïss reveals details of Mazraoui-Halilhodžić Rift
Former Morocco captain Romain Saïss has spoken out about the training ground incident that led to a fallout between Noussair Mazraoui and former national team coach Vahid Halilhodžić. Speaking on the Club des 5 podcast, Saïss described the moment: 'We were in training. After a drill, Vahid told us to drink water. Mazraoui didn't move. The coach told him again. Mazraoui replied, 'Thanks, but I'm not thirsty.'' Halilhodžić insisted. Mazraoui declined again, saying he had already drunk water. Under pressure, he picked up a bottle and mimed drinking. Halilhodžić realised and ordered him off the pitch. The incident led to Mazraoui being dropped from several camps. He was later recalled after tensions eased. The coach also had a similar conflict with Hakim Ziyech. Halilhodžić managed Morocco from 2019 to 2022. He took the national team to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinals before being knocked out by Egypt. and secured qualification for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, but he was dismissed. The Bosnian manager had another fallout with Hakim Ziyech, accusing him of lacking professionalism. 'Ziyech's behaviour does not fit the selection,' he told the press. 'He doesn't want to train, doesn't want to play. He doesn't take it seriously. I'm not going to beg him to come back.' Ziyech responded on a story on Instagram: 'Speak the truth the next time you talk!' adding a clown emoji. The current Qatar's Al-Duhail playmaker later told close contacts: 'Whatever this national coach does, whether he flies high or low, stands at my doorstep, wants to sleep in my attic or in my basement, I will not play for this national coach.' Ziyech refused to return while Halilhodžić remained in charge. He rejoined the national squad for the friendlies ahead of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar after the coach was sacked in August 2022 and replaced by current head coach Walid Regragui. Regragui on Ziyech: 'When He's Ready, We'll Call Him Back'
Morocco's national team coach, Walid Regragui, has voiced his support for Hakim Ziyech, saying the star winger can make a comeback — but only when he's back to his best. Ziyech, currently playing for Al-Duhail in Qatar, has been left out of recent squad lists due to fitness concerns. However, Regragui made it clear that the door is still open. 'Ziyech is a great player with real talent. He's contributed a lot to the team,' Regragui said during a press conference on Friday. The coach even traveled to Qatar to watch Ziyech play against Al-Sadd, only to see him left on the bench. 'Now he's started the last two games and is getting back to form,' Regragui added. 'When he's ready, we'll call him back because he's an important player for us.' Morocco is gearing up for two World Cup qualifiers against Niger and Tanzania on March 21 and 25. The Atlas Lions currently top their group with nine points, ahead of Niger and Tanzania, who both sit on six.
