Potholes, dust on many city stretches turn driving into nightmare
1 2 Bhubaneswar: Commuters are facing inconvenience navigating several important arteries in the city due to extensive damage caused after the recent rainfall, with dust compounding the problem. The situation is similar on several key stretches, including the Smart Janpath, Sachivalaya Marg, Bidyut Marg, Jaydev Vihar-Nandankanan Road, Cuttack-Puri road, and the road between Fire Station Square and Siripur Square, among others. The roads, which have developed potholes after the past few days of rain, are now filled with dust as asphalt is wearing off, causing inconvenience to commuters, especially motorists. Uneven patches on the roads are causing further trouble for commuters. "It has become hard riding on the roads due to the uneven patches and the dust blowing from the potholes," Acharya Vihar resident Jaydev Mohapatra said. Mohapatra, who was riding home with his nephew recently, had a narrow escape on Sachivalaya Marg. "I was trying to navigate an uneven patch when I was almost collided with a vehicle coming from the opposite side," he recalled. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Road-owning authorities have taken up repair on some parts of these stretches, but people complained that the temporary work is yielding no results as bitumen filled in the potholes is coming off. "They are just filling the potholes with a bitumen mix. The method is not working at all as patch work is not staying for long. It is creating additional trouble due to more uneven spots on the roads," Laxmi Vihar resident Sarat Jena said. Responding to the concerns, city mayor Sulochana Das said they need dry weather to take up proper road repairs. "Internal roads are being periodically repaired, while for key arteries, the works department will oversee the repair and maintenance work," she said. Road safety experts advocated proper repair and maintenance. "A proper mix of bitumen needs to be used for the patch work. Road rollers need to be used to ensure the durability of the filling. At some places, complete overlaying could be done," expert Syed Maqbool Ali said.
