AKPS denies deepfake video targeting director-general as fake
The agency described the video as malicious and generated using artificial intelligence (AI) or deepfake technology.
In a statement, AKPS said the video was uploaded by the account 'hermano.kedutaan' with intent to mislead the public.
'The video's creation and circulation are a calculated effort to damage the image, reputation and integrity of the Director-General,' AKPS said.
The agency warned that the content was designed to deceive and manipulate public perception.
AKPS advised the public against sharing such false materials, noting legal consequences under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
'While AI advancements are welcomed, unethical misuse to defame individuals is unacceptable,' it added.
The agency stated it would take legal action against those involved in producing or spreading the fake video. – Bernama

Muhyiddin is only being called in as a witness, says MCMC
PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) says it is calling Pagoh MP Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to provide a statement as a witness in an ongoing investigation. MCMC's corporate communications department stated on Friday (Aug 7) that the investigation concerns content from a TikTok account linking Muhyiddin to allegations regarding the targeted RON95 subsidy. "The focus of the investigation is to verify the context of the content posted and does not involve any allegations or charges against him. To complete the investigation, MCMC will summon any relevant individuals if necessary," the MCMC explained. The commission urged all parties to refrain from speculating and to allow the investigation process to proceed independently, discreetly, and professionally. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim had instructed the MCMC to investigate claims that Muhyiddin defended the rights of foreigners in the RON95 subsidies rationalisation issue. The Prime Minister's Office noted Muhyiddin's statement denying allegations that he had defended the rights of foreigners regarding petrol subsidies. On Tuesday (Aug 5), Muhyiddin issued a statement denying any efforts to protect the rights of foreigners in the subsidy programme, branding the allegations as lies and slander. Muhyiddin affirmed that the country's fuel subsidies have always been intended for Malaysians and not for non-citizens.
