On Saturday night, the Circuit de la Sarthe morphs into a big party venue, and it can be an overwhelming sensory experience. The humidity that can build over Le Mans in mid-June clings on after nightfall, making it stifling and uncomfortable.
And there's a mass of humanity everywhere, drinking, partying and swirling in and out of the spectator zones, funfair and campsites. With all this and the bright lights, loud noises and smells of various foods being cooked, it's loud, bustling and boisterous.
For someone who isn't much of a partying type, it's a lot, and I'm always relieved to escape the mayhem.
Besides, there's a much better time to enjoy Le Mans. You just need to get up early: because compared with Saturday night, Sunday morning at Le Mans is a different world – and, in my mind, an immeasurably better, more pleasurable one.
The humidity fades overnight, and as the sun breaks under clear skies, it's usually fresh and welcoming. And, aside from the 50-plus high-powered race cars roaring round, it's peaceful.
The throngs of fans have melted away, aside from a handful of fellow early starters (and the odd late-night reveller asleep on the ground), so you have your run of prime spectator spots.

In April 2021, he signed for Inter Miami CF II, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, which is the reserve team of Major League Soccer club Inter Miami CF and co-owned by none other than David himself. David owns Inter Miami with Jorge and Jose Mas which they officially launched in 2018. The team began playing during the 2020 season with his son Romeo also being signed for the reserve team Inter Miami CF II in September 2021. Mitchell made 23 appearances with Inter Miami CF II before leaving the club for pastures new. Romeo and Mitchell were on the team together until Mitchell joined Connecticut based team, Hartford Athletic, in January 2022, and it would seem he grew close to the Beckham clan during his time in Florida. 'We'd do everything together,' he said of himself Romeo and fellow English teammate Harvey Neville. Speaking to The Northern Echo he added: 'I remember the first time I met David (Beckham), the heart rate was going through the roof. "He'd come and watch training a lot but the first time I met him properly, me and Romeo met him at Chipotle and then we went back to their house, and then it just became more and more regular. GIANLUIGI DONNARUMMA has this habit of playing brilliantly against English clubs. So it might seem a bit weird that even though the Italian goalkeeper is dreaming of a big-money move to the Premier League from PSG, he might end up being left high and dry in the French capital. 10 10 10 Donnarumma broke England's hearts in the Euro 2020 final penalty shoot-out at Wembley by saving Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka's spot-kicks. In the Champions League last season, he continued his spell over England as he was outstanding against Aston Villa, Arsenal and Liverpool. This was a huge reason why PSG ended up winning the competition for the first time in their history. A player with just 12 months left on his contract, that has not stopped him from being dumped by PSG boss Luis Enrique for new arrival Lucas Chevalier. Donnarumma knows he is now toast at PSG. And he would love to play in England but the problem is that despite his fine reputation, he could still struggle to find a Premier League club. Right now, do not put any money on him appearing in English football's top-flight in September. The player's agent, Enzo Raiola said: 'It's true, the Premier League is very intriguing to us. I saw that many of my clients who play in the Premier League think it is the best step, being the most competitive league in the world. 'As of today, I have not received even the slightest hint from Italy that clubs could start negotiations for Gigio in this window. And those huge Donnarumma wages would be a problem. Chelsea are not looking for a keeper. Neither are Arsenal, who are happy with David Raya. Liverpool have Alisson while new keeper Giorgi Mamardashvili has arrived from Valencia, having been bought a year ago. Newcastle have signed Aaron Ramsdale to compete with Nick Pope while Spurs are happy with Guglielmo Vicario. So, maybe Donnarumma could take the money and head off to Saudi Arabia but it would not be ideal for Italy that their team captain would be playing in the Middle East ahead of a World Cup. Although he will not sign a fresh deal at PSG, maybe he could still return to the side. This seems unlikely but his replacement, Chavalier, hardly covered himself in glory in the Uefa Super Cup against Spurs in Udine on Wednesday. Kick it Out condemns Tel abuse
Kick it Out say they stand with Tottenham forward Mathys Tel after he received racial abuse following the defeat by Paris St-Germain in the Uefa Super came on as a substitute in the 79th minute and was one of two Spurs players who failed to convert from the spot in the penalty shootout. "If you're a black player, it would be totally understandable to think, 'Why would I want to take a penalty?' That's the state of the game right now, and the sad fact is, it's nothing new," anti-discrimination charity Kick It Out it Out said accountability from both the offenders and social media companies is "not being met"."Football bodies, authorities, and the regulator Ofcom, must come together to accelerate a plan that better protects players," the charity added."Their welfare should always be paramount, and we stand with Mathys Tel and all those who have suffered this continuing, racist abuse."Tottenham said in a statement: "Mathys showed bravery and courage to step forward and take a penalty, yet those who abuse him are nothing but cowards - hiding behind anonymous usernames and profiles to spout their abhorrent views."Spurs' statement comes after England defender Jess Carter revealed she had been the target of racist abuse during Euro 2025 last Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka were subjected to racist abuse in July 2021 in the aftermath of the Euro 2020 final, after all three missed penalties as England lost to Italy.
