Russia claims 42 Ukrainian drones destroyed in widespread cross-border attacks
Alexander Drozdenko, Governor of Leningrad region surrounding St. Petersburg, wrote on Telegram that two drones were downed in different districts south of the city.
He said no injuries or damage was reported. Operations were suspended for a time at St. Petersburg's Pulkovo airport.
The governor of Smolensk region in western Russia said anti-aircraft units had downed three drones without any casualties or damage. The governor of Voronezh region, next to Ukraine said "several" drones had been destroyed.
The Russian Defence Ministry reported a total of 42 drones destroyed over a three-hour period, 37 of them in three regions bordering Ukraine -- Belgorod, Bryansk and Kursk.
Ukraine has deployed drones increasingly in attacks on distant targets in Russian territory. In one spectacular set of strikes last month, in an operation dubbed "Spider's Web", a number of Russian bombers were hit at various air bases.
Russian forces have used increasing numbers of drones to target Ukrainian cities, with a record total of 539 drones and 11 missiles deployed against Kyiv on Thursday night, according to the Ukrainian air force.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said his military had successfully deployed drone interceptors to down Russian drones in the overnight attack.

Two held in ₹3.79 lakh online investment scam
The Hyderabad Cybercrime Police arrested two men from Karimnagar and Nirmal for defrauding a 52-year-old woman of ₹3.79 lakh in an online investment scam. The accused, identified as L. Anand Reddy and E. Laxma Reddy, lured the victim through a fake trading application by promising high returns on investment, said an officer from the cybercrime wing, adding that the woman, a resident of Troopbazaar, had filed a complaint after realising she had been conned. According to the complaint, the victim came across a Facebook advertisement in May promoting a trading platform. Upon clicking the link, she was redirected to a WhatsApp group operated by individuals identifying themselves as Ashish Kehair and his assistant Kangana Sharma. Kangana Sharma contacted her persistently via phone and WhatsApp, convincing her that the platform was a secure and profitable investment channel. 'Investigation revealed that the scam operated by making initial contact through social media platforms such as WhatsApp and Telegram. The accused impersonated representatives of reputed companies and used professional language to gain the victim's confidence. Fake trading applications and websites were used to show manipulated profits. Once money was transferred, the scammers blocked the victim and cut off all communication,' said the officer. E. Laxma Reddy was the account holder through which the victim's money was routed. L. Anand Reddy, meanwhile, played a key role in orchestrating the fraud by acquiring multiple bank accounts from local individuals, which were then used as mule accounts. These accounts, along with associated cheque books and internet banking credentials, were used to move and withdraw the stolen funds. The money was collected after inducing victims with fake investment offers. Victims of cyber fraud are advised to dial 1930 or report incidents on for immediate assistance.

The two leaders discussed how Ukrainian air defenses might be strengthened, possible joint weapons production between the U.S. and Ukraine, and broader U.S-led efforts to end the war with Russia, according to a statement by Zelenskyy. Asked Friday night by reporters about the call, Trump said, 'We had a very good call, I think.' When asked about finding a way to end the fighting, Trump said: 'I don't know. I can't tell you whether or not that's going to happen.' The U.S. has paused some shipments of military aid to Ukraine, including crucial air defense missiles. Ukraine's main European backers are considering how they can help pick up the slack. Zelenskyy says plans are afoot to build up Ukraine's domestic arms industry, but scaling up will take time. Trump told the reporters that he and Putin talked about sanctions 'a lot" during their phone call. 'He understands that they may be coming,' he said. According to the Associated Press, waves of drones and missiles targeted Kyiv overnight. One person was killed and at least 26 others, including a child, were wounded in the attack.
