The first-ever edition of the new Club World Cup format will take place in the US.
Chelsea and Manchester City are the sole representatives from the Premier League.
But there are a host of other big-name teams from around the world.
And as a result, there are numerous star players turning out — including those who have vanished from recent memory...

GK: HUGO LLORIS (LAFC)
Tottenham's former captain, 38, joined LAFC at the start of 2024 and has already cemented his place as a fan favourite.

Lloris has clocked up 67 appearances in that short time, hot on the heels of his 447 outings in London.
The World Cup-winning stopper has even landed a trophy in the City of Angels, scooping the US Open Cup in September.

And after helping LAFC win a playoff to replace Club Leon, Lloris will be between the sticks for the Group D opener against Chelsea on June 16.

But his presence is sure to reignite the Blues' capital rivalry with Spurs.
The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup will see the World's best players decide which club is the greatest
CB: SERGIO RAMOS (MONTERREY)
Having led Real Madrid to four Club World Cups in the past, Ramos will be feeling confident he can help Mexican side Monterrey get far this summer.
The centre-back is already captaining the team just four months after joining following spells at Paris Saint-Germain and Sevilla.

But at 39 years of age, Ramos has shown he has still got what it takes to boss a defence.
And he will need to be at his best to help Monterrey get past Inter Milan and River Plate in Group E.

CB: THIAGO SILVA (FLUMINENSE)
Once a Chelsea icon, always a Chelsea icon.
Even at 40 years old, Silva would still likely walk back into the Blues' XI.
Instead, he is king of the hill at Fluminense, saving them from relegation in his first season.

And Silva's know-how should help the Brazilians get out of a group which includes German giants Borussia Dortmund.

CB: NICOLAS OTAMENDI (BENFICA)

A two-time Premier League winner with Man City, Otamendi has gone on to win more trophies since leaving the Etihad.
Having now completed five seasons at Benfica, the 37-year-old has a Portuguese league title to boot.
And he even played a key role in Argentina's World Cup win in 2022.
Otamendi is just one of several big forgotten names playing at Benfica, who are in a tough group with Bayern Munich and Boca Juniors.

RWB: JOAO CANCELO (AL-HILAL)
Once regarded as the best full-back in world football, Cancelo's fall from grace was swift after starring at giants including Inter Milan, Juventus, Man City, Bayern Munich and Barcelona.

He is now playing in Saudi Arabia, earning a fortune with moneybags Al-Hilal.
At the age of 31, Cancelo is still playing in his prime years.
And he will be looking to inflict damage when Al-Hilal come up against reigning champions Real Madrid in Group H.

CM: ANDER HERRERA (BOCA JUNIORS)
It's been six years since Herrera, 35, lit up Old Trafford in a Manchester United shirt.
His tenacity in midfield endeared him to supporters while raking in FOUR trophies including the FA Cup and Europa League.

After playing for PSG and a second spell at Athletic Bilbao, Herrera now finds himself in Argentina with Boca Juniors.
But just six appearances in all competitions since his January switch means Herrera may not be guaranteed a starting spot in the US.

CM: RUBEN NEVES (AL-HILAL)
Why he was not snapped up by a fellow Premier League club while at Wolves remains a mystery.
Neves, 28, is only entering his prime now and continues to be a key player for Portugal.
Yet he finds himself playing in Saudi with Al-Hilal, completing a shock move two years ago before leading them to a Treble last season.

Neves would still walk into most European squads and could attract interest with some strong Club World Cup performances — but that's only if he wants to leave the riches of the Middle East.

LWB: ALEX TELLES (BOTAFOGO)

A miserable time at Manchester United saw Telles, 32, fail to live up to the hype as one of Europe's best left-footers.
After winning trophies galore at Galatasaray and Porto, he left Old Trafford empty-handed after just two years.
But he has enjoyed plenty of success since then, winning trophies at Sevilla, Al-Nassr and now Botafogo.
The Brazilian champs are coming in with a host of experienced homegrown talents and Telles' deadly free-kicks are likely to cause some damage.

CAM: ANGEL DI MARIA (BENFICA)
Man United's flop winger is returning to boyhood Argentina club Rosario Central this summer — but only after he leads out Benfica for the final time at the Club World Cup.
Ignoring his duff sole season in the north west, Di Maria's record means he will go down as one of football's most talented and decorated wingers ever.
His two years at Benfica have not yielded any trophies, however.
And Di Maria, 37, will be desperate to make amends before leaving Europe for good.

ST: EDINSON CAVANI (BOCA JUNIORS)
Another former United player, Cavani will feel he did not do himself justice during his two seasons in England.
Having also struggled at Valencia, the 38-year-old is now leading the way for Argentine giants Boca Juniors
Advertisement
20 goals in 39 games last year showed Cavani still has an eye for goal.
And although his pace may have gone, the experienced Uruguayan's sheer physicality and clever movement will surely see him in the mix for the Golden Boot.

ST: OLIVIER GIROUD (LAFC)
Last but not least, Giroud will face off against old side Chelsea later this month.
His extra-time assist helped LAFC book their place at the tournament ahead of Club America.
Giroud has already become a talisman for his Californian side, preferring the role of creator to goalscorer.

And his cunning know-how could help the experienced poacher nick a goal when he faces off against a young Blues defence.

Vn der Sar tells Ruben Amorim to give under-fire Man Utd duo another chance

Manchester United legend Edwin van der Sar hopes Ruben Amorim gives both Antony and Andre Onana an opportunity to win back the trust of fans at Old Trafford next season. Antony joined United with weighty expectations on his shoulders on the back of an £82million move from Ajax back in 2022. But the 25-year-old winger has badly struggled to live up to his hefty price tag at the Theatre of Dreams and is widely considered to be one of United's all-time worst signings. However, Antony enjoyed an extraordinary resurgence in the second half of last season after being sent on loan to Real Betis, finishing with nine goals and five assists in all competitions for the La Liga outfit. The Spanish club are keen to extend their temporary agreement for Antony beyond the summer and there talks are ongoing behind the scenes, with the Red Devils keen to resolve the Brazilian's future as quickly as possible. Wake up to find news on your club in your inbox every morning with Metro's Football Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your team in the link so we can send you football news tailored to you. Juventus and Bayer Leverkusen are also said to be exploring permanent moves for Antony as they scour the transfer market for attacking reinforcements. But according to Van der Sar, Antony should be given another chance to rescue his United career, even though Matheus Cunha's arrival from Wolves would appear to further block his path to the first-team. Asked for his thoughts on the club's transfer dealings, Van der Sar told The Sun: 'They're on the right track. 'I think they're signing a more experienced striker, maybe another one on the way. 'The two players they signed in the winter break [Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven] are good, so it should be fine and give the faith to the manager. 'Maybe [Alejandro] Garnacho is going to go. I would say bring Antony back, but I'm not sure if that's realistic.' In a separate interview with talkSPORT, Van der Sar encouraged United to keep the faith in Onana, despite an error-strewn start to the goalkeeper's Old Trafford career. 'I knew him already for a long time, for four or five years at Ajax,' the ex-United and Netherlands shot-stopper said. 'I trained with him and I saw him coming… he has great strengths, he's athletic, he has good reaction saves, he's good with his feet and everything, so I'm sure he's going to get over it. 'Sometimes it's not easy, the performances or the pressure there is, but I've seen him play for Ajax and Inter, I've seen him play Champions League finals so I'm sure that's going to be fine for next season.' According to Van der Sar, United should prioritise strengthening other areas of Amorim's squad before looking to find an upgrade for Onana. He added: 'I think there are more areas, other areas, where United should see if they can have better players, but I don't think the goalkeeping situation doesn't need to be addressed. 'Blame him if he makes a mistake or if he drops one through the legs or he misplaces a ball out from the back. Yeah, then you can blame the goalkeeper, of course. 'He's not been consistent in his performances this year. With the qualities he has, he should be able to play for Manchester United, of course, for next season.' Van der Sar believes Amorim's players should be better equipped at dealing with the intense scrutiny and pressure they have faced throughout United's malaise. 'Pressure has always been the case here in England, in the Premier League,' he continued. 'In our time, you had television or Sky Sports or The Sun or the Sunday papers, but nowadays, everybody has a social media outlet. 'How many ex-players can you have on television, saying something on the radio? So all the time everything is talked about, for four or five hours, about their mistake, about the tactical way the coach put the team forward. More Trending 'It's part of the job. They are being paid well, you should take the pressure and deliver the level that they think, the club thinks, they can produce on the pitch.' The Dutchman, a four-time Premier League winner with United, went on: 'It was an underwhelming season for the club, of course, and it's been a few years now that they didn't reach the level that they're supposed to reach. 'Also, some other clubs have stepped up, even some smaller clubs who are well organised and difficult to play against. 'It was a very poor season, topped off with losing the Europa League final against Tottenham without having a real fight.' Should Antony and Onana be given another chance? Harry Redknapp 'drives Sandra mad' as he refuses to retire after health ordeal

Soccer Aid 2025 coach Harry Redknapp has opened up about his and wife Sandra's health struggles, as well as his reluctance to retire from the world of showbiz Harry Redknapp has candidly confessed that he "finds it hard to say no to things" and isn't ready to hang up his boots just yet, even as the ex-Tottenham boss nears his 80th birthday. In a revealing chat from 2023, the now-78-year-old shared that since ending his football management career in 2017, he's been non-stop, even entering the I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! jungle and emerging victorious the following year. ‌ Harry, who is gearing up to coach the England team for Soccer Aid on Sunday, admitted that his hesitation to reduce his frequent television appearances, which includes projects with his son, former professional footballer Jamie Redknapp, is something that sends his wife Sandra round the bend. ‌ Speaking to Saga Magazine about whether he's put his feet up for good, Harry declared: "Not a chance. I can't. I find it hard to say no to things – it drives Sandra mad." He reminisced about his TV gigs, saying: "Recently, I've done Harry's Heroes for ITV, managed in Soccer Aid and last year Jamie and I filmed Jamie and Harry's World Cup Challenge [for Sky Max]. What a laugh that was." Harry also touched upon the health battles he and Sandra have faced, telling the magazine: "I've had a kidney cancer scare and a stent fitted into my heart, and Sandra's had ovarian cancer and really suffered with her throat after damaging her vocal cords." He recalled how Sandra's sepsis scare in 2018 nearly prevented him from jetting off to Australia for I'm A Celebrity, leaving him deeply concerned about potentially losing his beloved wife. Harry reminisced: "I was terrified I was going to lose her and I nearly didn't get on the plane. ‌ "But she wasn't having it – she wanted me to go. I'll never forget the moment she came into camp to see me. It was the first time she'd seen me cry." ITV audiences were utterly enchanted by Harry and Sandra's romance, shedding tears themselves during their emotional reunion in the jungle, which preceded Harry being named King of the Jungle. In recent news, Harry expressed his thrill at returning to Soccer Aid tonight, where he will witness England take on the World XI team to support Unicef's fundraising efforts. Joining him as part of the England coaching team are football icon Wayne Rooney, heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury, 'Line of Duty' star Vicky McClure, and goalkeeping hero David James, while a mix of ex-pros and stars lace up their boots for the big game.
