Police to step up speed gun enforcement with 'random locations and random times'
A policing team in North Wales says it will step its speed gun patrols - warning they will hit "random locations" at "random times" in the coming weeks. The Acton Neighbourhood Policing Team yesterday targeted two roads in the Wrexham area. They said that in these instances on a 30mph and a 20mph stretch all the drivers checked were within the respective speed limits. But they warned there will be extra speed gun patrols in the coming weeks. A spokesperson for the team said: "The Acton Neighbourhood Policing Team have today conducted speed checks on Jeffrey's Road (30 mph) and Smithy Lane (20 mph) "All drivers complied with the speed limit." They added: "We will be utilising our speed gun more frequently in the coming weeks at random locations and random times. . There has been an increase in speeding fines in North Wales since the introduction of the 20mph default limit - particularly after enforcement was stepped up after around six months. In 2023, just over 25,000 speeding offences were recorded on 20mph and 30mph roads across North Wales. This figure nearly doubled to just under 57,000 in 2024. The number of fines peaked in August when almost 8,000 tickets were handed out, a sharp rise from 892 in June.
