Robert Vadra seeks new date to appear before ED in Gurugram land deal case: Report
Businessman Robert Vadra reportedly sought a new date from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to appear before the financial probe agency in connection with the Gurugram land deal case.
Vadra, the husband of Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi, was summoned by the Enforcement Directorate on Tuesday. He, however, has "informed the central agency that he would not appear today and sought a fresh date," sources told news agency ANI.
Vadra had earlier appeared before the Enforcement Directorate on April 17 — the third straight day — for questioning in a money laundering case linked to alleged irregularities in a 2008 Haryana land deal case.
The Enforcement Directorate's probe involves properties in London and financial transactions during the UPA regime (2004–2014). The central agency alleged Vadra's involvement with Sanjay Bhandari through the London property, financial transactions, and personal associations, supported by email trails and Thampi's role, News 18 reported.
Bhandari is allegedly a close aide of Vadra and had fled India in 2016. He is currently living in the United Kingdom.
On April 17, after the Enforcement Directorate interrogated him on Thursday in connection with the Gurugram land case, businessman Robert Vadra said that the investigative agency was asking him repeated questions that he had already answered in 2019.
"There was no new question; all the questions were repeated from 2019. If tomorrow were not a public holiday, I would have to celebrate my birthday in the ED office. "Tomorrow is Good Friday, and I will celebrate my birthday with my family; otherwise, they will keep calling me," Vadra told the media.
Vadra slammed the action as a "political vendetta", accusing the government of misusing investigative agencies to target opposition voices.
Vadra questioned the ED's impartiality, alleging selective action against leaders from non-BJP parties while vowing to continue his fight against "injustice".
"This is a political vendetta. Agencies are being misused. This is wrong. How will there be trust in agencies when they are after any candidates for the CM position in the country, or when a party is doing well? Which BJP minister or member has been summoned by the ED? Why has none of them been summoned? Is everyone in the BJP good? Do they not have any allegations against them? "There are several allegations," Vadra said.
Vadra also claimed that the ED's action against him was fueled when he started raising his voice over atrocities against minorities.
"If I were to enter politics, which is what everyone wants, they (the BJP) would either speak of dynasty or misuse ED. This difficulty started when, a few days back, I gave messages through social media regarding atrocities against minorities. This is nothing else. Ever since I said that people wanted me to enter politics, this difficulty has started. But the ED summons has no basis," he said.

The Election Commission dismissed the claims as 'absolutely absurd' and accused Gandhi of defaming the institution after an unfavourable result. Responding the next day, Fadnavis said, 'Rahul Gandhi consistently insults the democratic process. He repeatedly disrespects the public mandate. People have rejected Rahul Gandhi, and in retaliation, he is rejecting the people. This will only push the Congress party further into decline.' Joshi, however, accused Fadnavis of avoiding the real concerns raised by Gandhi. 'Instead of addressing the serious irregularities, he launched a personal attack. Why is the chief minister responding on behalf of the Election Commission? That itself raises suspicion,' Joshi said. He pointed out that Gandhi had questioned the process through which the Modi government amended the Constitution to remove the Chief Justice of India from the committee that appoints election commissioners, replacing the seat with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. 'This move gave the ruling party complete control over the selection of commissioners—this is where the electoral fraud begins,' Joshi said. He added that Congress governments had always followed a transparent process in appointing election commissioners, with no political interference. 'No one questioned the integrity of the commissioners we appointed. But Fadnavis, in his article, avoided these facts and instead chose to make shallow accusations,' Joshi said. Joshi also raised concerns over the unusual spike in voter numbers during the 2024 Assembly elections and reports of polling continuing beyond official hours in certain constituencies. 'Fadnavis has deliberately ignored these issues. His silence on this reinforces doubts about the fairness of the process,' he said.

Policy that excluded Mahl, Arabic from Lakshadweep schools deferred by Kerala High Court
In an interim order, a Division Bench of the Kerala High Court deferred the implementation of a policy under which Mahl and Arabic were excluded as optional languages at schools in the Union Territory of Lakshadweep. The Bench of Chief Justice Nitin Jamdar and Justice Basant Balaji acted upon a public interest litigation moved by Ajas Akber, the president of the Lakshadweep unit of the National Students Union of India. He had sought orders to the islands' administration to desist from terminating or removing Arabic and Mahl as optional languages under the three-language formula. The court said the order on the language was issued without conducting any study, and so its implementation is deferred. 'The position which has existed so far (in respect of CBSE and non-CBSE schools) in the Union Territory of Lakshadweep shall continue,' the court said. The new language policy was set to be implemented at schools on the islands from July 1. The petitioner had argued that the decision was taken by the director of education without consultation with stakeholders and without conducting any study on its implications on the education system in Lakshadweep. The education system in Lakshadweep for the past 70 years had the option of Arabic or Mahl as a third language. With regard to Minicoy Island, the Mahl language holds a distinct cultural identity. The court said it is open to the Union Territory conducting a study of the local conditions in the context of the prevailing education policies and to engage with all the stakeholders through a meaningful process of consultation. The Lakshadweep administration told the court that no study had been carried out before issuing the controversial order. The administration made reference to the National Education Policy 2020 issued by the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development, the National Curriculum Framework for the Foundational Stage 2022, and the National Curriculum Framework for School Education 2023.

Plea claims Priyanka Gandhi hid assets in poll info, HC sends her notice
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra (File photo) KOCHI: Kerala high court on Tuesday issued notice to Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra seeking her response to a petition challenging her election from the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency in the Nov 2024 byelection. Justice K Babu admitted the election petition filed by BJP candidate Navya Haridas seeking Priyanka's election to be declared void, and posted it for further hearing in Aug. In her petition, Haridas has accused Priyanka of corrupt practices and suppression or non-disclosure of several immovable properties owned by her and her spouse, Robert Vadra, in the affidavit submitted along with her nomination papers. The petition alleges that Priyanka suppressed vital information regarding assets owned by her and her family, thereby misleading and misinforming voters and keeping them in the dark to influence their electoral choice. This, the petitioner contends, amounts to corrupt practices under the Representation of the People Act, 1951. The petition also alleges that Priyanka's nomination papers violated election laws and the Conduct of Election Rules. In the byelection, necessitated by Rahul Gandhi vacating the seat in favour of Rae Bareli, Priyanka secured her maiden electoral victory with a margin exceeding four lakh votes. She polled 6,22,338 votes while LDF candidate Sathyan Mokeri secured 2,11,407 votes. Haridas, the petitioner, was placed third with 1,09,939 votes.
