Priyanka urges Minister to fast-track approvals under PMGSY-IV
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Wayanad MP, has urged Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Union Minister for Rural Development, Agriculture, and Farmers' Welfare, to direct the National Rural Infrastructure Development Agency (NRIDA) to fast-track approvals under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana-IV (PMGSY-IV) in the district. In a letter to Mr. Chouhan, Ms. Vadra said that 331 unconnected habitations had been identified in Wayanad and approved by the Kerala State Rural Roads Development Agency. Among them, only 64 habitations in Kalpetta had been approved by the NRIDA and 267 others were yet to get the green signal on the Online Management, Monitoring and Accounting System (OMMAS). No habitation across Sulthan Bathery, Mananthavady or Panamaram blocks, with a significant tribal population, had been approved as yet though the PMGSY-IV guidelines stipulate that tribal villages in aspirational blocks would be prioritised. Meanwhile, 25 unconnected habitations had been incorrectly categorised as connected on the OMMAS as well. Ms. Vadra requested Mr. Chouhan to ensure that the NRIDA expedited approval for the pending habitations. She also urged him to allow the authorities in Wayanad to make necessary changes on the OMMAS software about the status of the habitations so that they remain up to date and accurate.

Politics of Passion
"The only politics I'm interested in is the politics of art,' laughs Raihan Vadra, the 24-year-old son of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Robert Vadra, dismissing rumours of his impending entry into politics in the footsteps of five generations before him. The artist's heart lies elsewhere: in his photography, in the wilderness it so often captures, and in creating multimedia exhibits that leave his viewers feeling deeply. 'When people come to my shows, I want them to experience a story that they are able to connect with,' says Vadra, who was in the city as the curator of Bangalore Art Weekend, his first solo curation, having previously curated for his co-founded artist collective You Cannot Miss This. The artist, who studied at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, has held three solo exhibitions, with his first, 'Dark Perception' (2021), exploring themes of perception and control; 'Anumana' (2022), delving into ideas of choice and compulsion; and 'Upamana' (2024), exploring the impact that comparisons can have on a person, united by the Indian philosophical concepts of the five 'pramans' which are meant to be the means by which human beings gain accurate knowledge. At first glance, these exhibits have vastly different visuals with 'Dark Perception' held in complete darkness and 'Anumana' featuring bright colours and objects. What unites them, according to Vadra, is an ongoing story and a commitment to immersing his viewers in it. 'With the first show right after Covid, having lived through this period of extreme control, I was reflecting on different forms of control – how we are subconsciously controlled and how that alters our perception. So when you walked into the show every element was controlled,' explains Vadra, adding that there is a perceptible visual language stringing the shows together.

"Stand Fully With Any Action By Government": Priyanka Gandhi On Pahalgam Attack
Wayanad: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi on Sunday said her party would fully support any action the central government takes in response to the terror attack in Pahalgam, in which 26 people were killed. She noted that the Congress Working Committee (CWC) has already passed a resolution affirming this stand. Speaking during her two-day visit to Wayanad, the AICC general secretary expressed hope that the union government would act swiftly in the wake of the attack. "The Congress Party... the CWC met, and we passed a resolution. In the resolution, we have said we stand fully with whatever action the government decides to take. And we hope that they take the action soon," she told reporters here when her reaction was sought on the matter. On Friday, the Congress urged the Centre to act with firmness in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack to penalise Pakistan for its continued export of terror, and pressed for time-bound accountability into the "serious lapses" in security and intelligence in one of the most heavily-guarded regions of the country. The opposition party made the assertions in a resolution passed by the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting, which was chaired by party chief Mallikarjun Kharge and attended by former Congress presidents Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, and general secretaries Jairam Ramesh, K C Venugopal and Priyanka, among others. Earlier, the Congress MP handed over a new ambulance for injured and sick animals to forest officials of the Wayanad Wildlife Division at Sultan Bathery, party sources said. The ambulance, funded through Rs 15 lakh from the MP's development fund, was flagged off at a function held at the Forest Division Office in Sultan Bathery. Following a request from forest officials, Vadra also visited the animal hospice and palliative care unit, where captured aggressive tigers are housed, and reviewed its operations. Officials informed her that the shelter is currently accommodating more big cats than its intended capacity. They also highlighted the urgent need for improved facilities and additional funds to manage the growing number of animals. Meanwhile, the family of former Wayanad DCC treasurer NM Vijayan, who had died by suicide a few months back, alleged that the local party leaders prevented them from meeting Vadra. His daughter-in-law claimed that they didn't receive any assistance from the party despite assurances from the MP during her recent visit here.

Vadra's remark on Pahalgam: HC bench refuses to intervene
1 2 Lucknow: The Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad high court, while disposing of the petition filed against the alleged controversial statement given by Robert Vadra after the Pahalgam terror attack , has on Friday refused to intervene in the matter. The court said that the petitioner has other legal remedies which can be pursued. A division bench of Justice Rajan Roy and Justice Om Prakash Shukla passed the order on a petition filed by Hindu Front for Justice and others. In the petition, it was demanded that the court should direct the central government to constitute an SIT to investigate Vadra's allegedly controversial statement. It had also demanded that action should be taken against Vadra under various provisions of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Twenty-six people, mostly tourists, were killed and several injured when terrorists opened fire at a meadow near the popular tourist town of Pahalgam in south Kashmir's Anantnag district on April 22. Vadra, the son-in-law of Congress Parliamentary Party chief Sonia Gandhi and brother-in-law of party MP Rahul Gandhi, triggered a row by appearing to suggest that non-Muslims were targeted in Pahalgam as terrorists feel that Muslims are being "mistreated" in the country.
