'I have heard that some people have died, it is sad news. This has happened for the first time. I appeal to the administration to make good arrangements so that people do not face any inconvenience,' Ramakrishna Das Mahapatra told reporters.
Meanwhile, Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) YB Khurania rushed to the Gundicha Temple to assess the situation after the stampede during the Jagannath Rath Yatra on Sunday, which claimed three lives.
The visuals showed DGP Khurania arriving at the Gudicha Temple, while police managed the crowd.
Earlier, speaking to ANI over the phone, Odisha Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan said that the state DGP has been sent to the site of the incident.
Odisha Minister Harichandan said, 'It is an unfortunate incident. We are taking note of that. I spoke with the CM this morning. We are taking stringent action. DGP has been sent to the spot.'
'Three people have passed away because of suffocation in the huge gathering. Six to seven people are injured. I am moving to Puri. I am monitoring the situation over the phone. We are trying our best to manage the crowd. Additional police have been deployed. The reasons for the incident are being investigated,' Harichandan said.
'The situation is now under control and the people are having darshan...', he added.
'The situation is being monitored,' the minister said, adding that he is rushing to Puri himself and that stringent action will be taken against those responsible.
'Around 6-7 people were injured and they are alright now,' Harichandan further said.
The mishap took place early this morning. The chariots had arrived at Saradha Bali from the Jagannath Temple on Saturday, a day after the Rath Yatra commenced. (ANI)

New Delhi [India], August 20 (ANI): Lok Sabha on Wednesday passed The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, aiming to promote e-sports and online social games, while outlawing online money gaming. The Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha earlier today. The Bill was brought in to encourage e-sports and online social games while prohibiting harmful online money gaming services, advertisements, and financial transactions related to them. The Bill seeks to completely ban on offering, operating, or facilitating online money games, irrespective of whether based on skill, chance, or both. "When it comes to society, middle-class people, or a segment of industry. When it comes to society and the government revenue, our prime minister has always chosen the society. Never have we compromised on the interest of the society," Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw said, requesting the House, particularly the Opposition members, to unanimously pass the Bill in the Lok Sabha. Opposition members continued raising their slogans, as the Bill was passed by voice vote. "Online gaming has three segments. First is e-sports which needs strategic thinking, team building, enhances cultural segment is online social games, be it Solitaire, Chess, Sudoku. They are educative and entertaining. They are widely played," Vaishnaw further said. "There is a third segment, online money game, which is a cause of concern in the society. There are people, there are families who got addicted to online money games. They lose their hard-earned money. Algorithms are sometimes such that it is different to know with whom you are playing. Algorithms are opaque." "Many families have been devastated, many died by suicide," the minister said. Online money game is seriously affecting families, terror being financed, money being laundered. There will be no punishment for those playing online money games; it is only the service providers, advertisers, promoters, and those who financially support such games will face the consequences, said sources. "No punishment for those playing online games. No punishment to victims. Only punishment for service providers, advertisers, promoters and who support financially to such games," a source said on Wednesday. Through this legislation, the government aims to promote e-sports and give them legal recognition. This bill will help in providing legal support to e-sports. Earlier, there was no legal backing for e-sports, sources said. "We have interacted with the 3rd segment of the online gaming industry. We tried to impose GST also, but the challenge continued. We had no option but to choose society for the welfare of people," a source said. For the promotion of e-sports, which has been recognised as a legitimate form of competitive sport in India, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports will establish a dedicated framework. Online social games will also be promoted by the government. It is the online money game, according to sources, that is a big problem for society. Several reports of suicide, violent attacks and other challenges were reported, the sources added. "Fraud and cheating are happening through these games and several families are ruined." The government believes that the harms of addiction, financial losses, and even extreme consequences such as suicides associated with online money gaming can be prevented by prohibition of such activities. There are reports of money laundering and terror financing, the sources added. Failing to fulfil the law, once enacted, can attract imprisonment up to 3 years and/or fine up to ₹ 1 crore for offering or facilitating online money gaming. For advertising money games, and imprisonment up to 2 years and/or fine up to ₹ 50 lakh may be attracted. for financial transactions related to money games, imprisonment up to 3 years and/or fine up to ₹ 1 crore is being provided. Any repeat offences may attract enhanced penalties, including imprisonment of 3-5 years and fines up to ₹ 2 crore. Offences under key sections to be cognizable and non-bailable. The central government may authorise officers to investigate, search, and seize digital or physical property linked to offences, and officers would be empowered to enter, search, and arrest without warrant in certain cases of suspected offences. Mumbai (Maharashtra): Filmmaker Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri's directorial The Bengal Files, which focuses on the events of the Direct Action Day and the 1946 Calcutta killings, has landed in controversy even before its release. Actor-turned-politician Mithun Chakraborty discussed the controversy surrounding the trailer launch of The Bengal Files in Kolkata, expressing surprise at the entire ruckus without even watching the film. He also blamed the ruling party in the state, saying everything was "planned". Speaking to ANI, he said, "Everything was planned, but it was so surprising to me, without even seeing the trailer, without even seeing anything, they are opposing it for what? To face the truth? So, that is the problem. Nothing else." On August 18, during a press conference in Delhi, the filmmaker revealed that "FIRs have been filed by ruling party members" on the makers. Speaking about it, the Disco Dancer actor added, "In Bengal, FIRs are distributed like kurmura (puffed rice). Agar TMC ka koi chota-mota bhi hoga na, police station mein jayega FIR karo bolega, (police) kar dega. So, it was like that. So, never mind. If the FIR has been done, he (Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri) will fight it back. No problem". It is focused on the events of the Direct Action Day, aiming to unveil the "most brutal chapter" of Indian history. A ruckus erupted during the release of The Bengal Files trailer in Kolkata on August 16. Agnihotri said during the press meet, "I am discovering the political scenario. I had thought how anybody could stop the trailer, but when we went to Kolkata, the multiplex refused to show the trailer after all the permissions in writing. "Then, the hotel chain stopped showing the trailer. The police the wrire then I was told that the ruling party filed many FIRs as we stand here today, the FIRs are filed on us by the ruling party members and I have been told that ruling party has major objection on portrayal untold story of Hindu genocide. Delhi CM assault: Police slap 'attempt to murder' case against accused
The Delhi police filed an FIR for attempt to murder after CM Rekha Gupta was attacked during a public meeting at her Civil Lines office; the accused has been detained for questioning New Delhi The Delhi police have filed an attempt to murder case after the 'attack' on Chief Minister Rekha Gupta at her camp office in north Delhi's Civil Lines on Wednesday, news agency PTI reported. Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Raja Banthia said the case has been registered under Section 109(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Civil Lines police station. The accused, identified as Sakriya Rajeshbhai Khimjibhai, has been detained and is being questioned. What happened at Delhi CM's residence? The incident took place during a Jan Sunwai (public hearing) at the CM's official residence at Civil Lines. According to her office, the assault was part of a 'well-planned conspiracy to kill her". Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva said the attacker handed Gupta some papers, then suddenly grabbed her hand and tried to pull her. 'People nabbed him. Who is he, and all other details are being investigated by the police,' he told news agency ANI. He added that the chief minister received a light blow to her head but is stable. 'Doctors have examined her. I have met her, she is a strong woman,' Sachdeva said. Political reactions The attack has drawn sharp reactions from political leaders. Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav called the incident 'very unfortunate' and questioned women's safety in the capital. 'If the CM of Delhi is not safe, how can a common man or woman be safe?' he asked. Former chief minister and AAP leader Atishi also condemned the attack. In a post on X, she said, 'The attack on Delhi's Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is highly condemnable. In a democracy, there is a place for disagreement and protest, but no place for violence. Hoping the Delhi police will take strict action.' Accused identified According to ANI, the attacker is a 35-year-old man from Rajkot, Gujarat, who reportedly came to the Jan Sunwai seeking the release of a relative lodged in prison.
