Hibs duo join Gala Fairydean Rovers on Cooperation System loans

Hibs defender Owen Calder and winger Jamie McMurdo have joined Gala Fairydean Rovers on Cooperation System loans for the 2025/26 season.
18-year-old full-back Calder joined Hibs in November 2016 and signed his first professional contract with the Club in September 2023.
He spent three months on loan at Berwick Rangers last season and played a key role in Hibs Under-18s' CAS Elite Youth League success.
McMurdo, who joined the Club in 2018 from Tranent, has also joined the Rovers on loan.
The 18-year-old signed his first professional deal with Hibs last summer and was a consistent starter in Darren McGregor's Under-18s side last season.
As part of Hibs Cooperation System agreement with Gala Fairydean Rovers, both players will be eligible to play for Hibernian – including in KDM Evolution Trophy and UEFA Youth League matches – while out on loan at Netherdale.
McGregor said: 'Jamie and Owen are both exciting players who were a large part of our Under-18s title success last season.
'This is a great opportunity for them both to test themselves in the Lowland League.'

David Gray rues ‘hugely frustrating' draw as Hibernian let two-goal lead slip

The Hibees looked to be in command after Rocky Bushiri and Elie Youan – on his first start since December – put them two up within the opening half-hour. But Killie hit back just before the break through Liam Polworth and then 18-year-old Ben Brannan volleyed home a spectacular equaliser in the 48th minute. 'It was hugely frustrating, but certainly a game of two halves in terms of our level of performance as well,' said manager Gray. 'We started the game really well and for 44 of the 45 minutes in the first half I thought we were very good and dominated the game. 'But we lost a really poor goal and it just gave a little bit of momentum to Kilmarnock going in at half-time and then it's a wonder goal to get it back to 2-2. 'Our level of performance from that moment on was certainly a lot lower than it was in the first half. It certainly feels like two points dropped because of being 2-0 up in the game and how dominant we were in the first half.' Gray dismissed any notion that Hibs' exertions in their 2-0 Conference League win away to Partizan Belgrade were a factor in Sunday's match 'No,' he said. 'I think the way we started the game was everything I asked the players for. The intensity we played at, the way we moved the ball. 'If you're not at it or you're feeling fatigued going into the game, we wouldn't have put in that level of performance. 'I do think the concentration in the second half was maybe something we need to look at. But in terms of how the players are feeling, they're all feeling fresh.' Kilmarnock boss Stuart Kettlewell praised Brannan's presence of mind to attempt the audacious strike that brought the equaliser. 'I think in modern football a lot of the time what we see is players in that scenario trying to take a touch and trying to shift it wide, but I just love that personality and that imagination to take it on and he executes it,' said the manager. 'When you come here and find yourselves 2-0 down at the best of times, you're in trouble, but especially when Hibs are playing the way they are, that's carried over from last season. 'We could have gone under, we could have felt sorry for ourselves, but I think the players showed their personality.'

Hibs squander two-goal lead and share points with Kilmarnock

Hibs threw away a two-goal lead and ended up sharing the points with Kilmarnock after a dramatic 90-minutes at Easter Road this afternoon. David Gray made three changes to the starting XI that beat Partizan Belgrade 2-0 on Thursday night in Serbia in the first leg of their Europa Conference League qualifier. Scotland international Grant Hanley made his debut alongside Junior Hoilett and Elie Youan who replaced Jack Iredale, Chris Cadden and Martin Boyle. Hibs started on the front foot and after creating a number of early chances opened the scoring from a free-kick near the byeline. Jamie McGrath fizzed a cross to the back post and Rocky Bushiri was on hand to head the ball into the net. The hosts then doubled their advantage when Junior Hoilett's wonderful through ball found Youan who slotted the ball past the keeper. Hibs looked comfortable but just before half-time, Killie striker Marcus Dackers turned two defenders to get to the byeline, before finding Liam Polworth who scored from close range. That goal buoyed the visitors and the equaliser arrived shortly after the restart. A corner was headed away but only as far as Ben Brannan, who volleyed a contender for goal of the season brilliantly over Jordan Smith and into the corner from 25 yards. The visitors had the better of the second half with Smith looking nervy, but Brannan's effort was the final goal of the game Hibs host Partizan Belgrade on Thursday night at Easter Road, in the second leg of their Conference League third round qualifier. After the final whistle Gray told BBC Scotland: 'It was certainly, in terms of our level, a game of two halves. 'First half, very good. Started very well, a lot of good play within that. But we lost a goal just before half time through a lack of concentration. 'Second half, we were nowhere near the level we were. The second goal is a wonderstrike, but we needed to be better in how we reacted. 'It's a bit of everything – big moments in games, the momentum shifts, your opponent gets confidence from that. We gave them confidence with individual errors, created anxiety in situations. A lot of the chances we gave up were self-inflicted.' Kilmarnock manager Stuart Kettlewell told BBC Scotland: '[Brannan's strike] will be spoken about for quite some time. It's some strike, it's unbelievable. We had some other real good moments and spooked Hibs at the back. 'The goal aside, Ben is 18. We gave him his debut, we knew he was talented. I'll not get carried away, he's playing out of position, and he's embraced the whole situation. He's taken everything in his stride and you need that emotional intelligence to give yourself a chance.' Hibs: Smith, Hanley, O'Hora, Levitt, Youan, Bowie, McGrath, Mulligan. Obita, Hoilett, Bushiri Subs: Salinger, Manneh, Boyle, Cadden, Iredale, Klidje, Megwa, McIntyre, Campbell Kilmarnock: Stryjek, Brandon, Mayo,Deas, McKenzie, Dackers, Watson, Brown, Brannan, Daniels, Polworth Subs: Beach, Thompson, David, Kiltie, Anderson, Thomson, Watkins, Traynor Like this: Like Related

David Gray won't make Hibs 'excuses' as he warns stars they brought Kilmarnock collapse on themselves

The Leith outfit were cruising inside half an hour thanks to Rocky Bushiri and Elie Youan before being pegged back to share the points David Gray admits poor concentration and not fatigue was the reasonHibs threw away a two-goal lead in a frustrating draw with Kilmarnock. ‌ The Leith outfit were cruising inside half an hour thanks to Rocky Bushiri and Elie Youan goals. ‌ But woeful defending allowed Liam Polworth to pull one back for the visitors just before the break before Ben Brannan grabbed the equaliser with a sublime volley from 25 yards in the 48th minute. ‌ Killie had further chances to grab a third as Hibs shot themselves in the foot at the back. And Gray refused to blame their hectic schedule for their poor second half display as they gear up for Thursday's Conference League second leg against Partizan Belgrade. He said: 'It's hugely frustrating but certainly a game of two halves in terms of our level of performance as well. 'We started the game really well and for 44 of the 45 minutes in the first half I thought we were very good, dominated the game. 'But it's big moments in games so it's a really poor goal to lose at the time. It just gave a little bit of momentum. 'It's a wonder goal to get it back to 2-2 but our level of performance from that moment was certainly a lot lower than it was in the first half. ‌ 'A lot of the opportunities we gave up were all self-inflicted. That's something that clearly we'll need to improve on and we'll show the players to make sure.' Asked if his players were feeling tired following five games in 18 days, Gray replied: 'I think that would just be using an excuse. 'I think the way we started the game was everything I asked the players for. The intensity we played at, the way we moved the ball. ‌ "If you're not at it or you're feeling fatigued going into the game, we wouldn't have put in that level of performance. I do think the concentration was something in the second half. 'But in terms of how the players are feeling, they're all feeling fresh. They're all feeling like they know the second half performance wasn't as good as the first one.' ‌ Kilmarnock boss Stuart Kettlewell lavished praise on youngster Brannan for his goal but also singled out defender Ethan Brown after the 20-year-old made his debut. He said: 'It was a great shin wasn't it! Everybody talks about trying to get academy graduates into your team, we had four today if you include the seasoned veteran in Rory McKenzie. 'You need to deliver and deal and come up with that emotional intelligence. I think with the modern footballers you see players in that scenario taking a touch but I love that personality and imagination to take it on. 'It's phenomenal the impact he's made, the other layer to that as well is that he's playing out of position on the other side of the pitch. 'Also Ethan Brown against coming in and being thrown in at the deep end, full marks to him and it was fantastic to see him take part in the game the way he did and it looks like a bright future in the game for these lads if they keep progressing at the speed they are.'
