Apologise, Nga tells critics who labelled MyKiosk project a white elephant
He made the call after the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) found no elements of corruption or abuse of power in the project.
"There were allegations that this was a white elephant project. Because of that, the ministry took the initiative to invite the MACC to investigate. When the anti-graft body did not come, we went to them.
"We provided all the necessary documents for the MACC to conduct a thorough investigation. Last week, the MACC issued a statement confirming there was no abuse of power, no criminal elements, and no corruption. So, to those who threw stones, do not now hide your hands.
"On behalf of all the ministry's staff who have worked tirelessly to serve the people, I demand that those who made baseless accusations apologise.
"We believe the sacrifices of civil servants must be respected, not met with unfounded allegations," he said during the question-and-answer session in the Dewan Rakyat today.
Nga said this when responding to a question from Onn Abu Bakar (PH–Batu Pahat), who inquired about the implementation statistics of the MyKiosk 2.0 programme.
Meanwhile, Nga said that in 2023, an allocation of RM50 million under the MyKiosk@KPKT programme was used to provide 3,189 kiosk units.
Last year, RM100 million was allocated for MyKiosk 2.0, which involved the construction of 4,054 new kiosk units.
"In line with the ministry's commitment to continuous improvement based on traders' feedback, the design specifications for MyKiosk 2.0 have been modified to be more environmentally sustainable and equipped with better facilities, without any increase in rental rates.
"As of July this year, the occupancy rate for MyKiosk@KPKT (2023) stands at 2,926 units (91.75 per cent), while MyKiosk 2.0 (2024) has reached 3,518 units (86.78 per cent)."
In another development, Nga said that a traffic light system will be implemented to evaluate the performance of local authorities.
"I admit that there have been some shortcomings in implementation, which is why this year we are introducing reforms through a traffic light system. Local councils will be evaluated based on this system.
"If the indicator is green, it means excellent performance and their allocation will be increased. If it is yellow, the allocation will be reviewed. If it is red, the allocation will be cancelled," he said.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia will roll out three key follow-up actions — an exporter outreach programme, regulatory reform and a nationwide supply chain mapping initiative — following the recent tariff renegotiation agreement with the United States which reduced tariffs on Malaysian goods from 25 per cent to 19 per cent. Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz said the agreement, effective Aug 1, was achieved after "months of intense but thorough as well as methodical negotiations". "Most importantly, we achieved this without conceding on our red lines in key areas," he said in his keynote address at The Edge Malaysia Centurion Club Awards 2025 here today. Tengku Zafrul said those red lines included foreign equity limits in strategic sectors, legal safeguards in digital companies, halal standards and many other areas. But the key point, he added, is that the negotiation package was a all-of-nation offer, not just the government, but all (Malaysians and Malaysian companies). With the tariff deal in effect, Tengku Zafrul said the government is focusing on three key areas, starting with an outreach programme to support industry players and exporters. "Some of you in this room may be impacted, but again we will engage the whole exporters' ecosystem — not just the multinationals, but all the small and medium enterprises that are supporting the major exporters," he said. Secondly, he said the government aims to accelerate industrial reforms by cutting bureaucracy and reviewing regulations to eliminate overlaps, outdated provisions and irrelevant processes. "Thirdly, we need to strengthen the resilience of our supply chain by fortifying specific industries' role in the global supply chain," he said. Tengku Zafrul said Malaysia is making good progress on a supply chain mapping project, which aims to identify every player involved in the economic activities of key industrial sectors. Meanwhile, he said Malaysia's mid-cap companies — defined as listed companies with a market capitalisation of between RM100 million and RM1 billion — remain critical to the country's growth ambition under the New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP) 2030. "For me and for our ministry, we view this award such as Centurion as one of the private sector's contributions to Malaysia's journey towards becoming a high-income, sustainable and globally competitive nation. "As of March 31, there are 519 such Centurions. And this speaks volumes about the vibrancy of Malaysia's mid-cap sector — a sector that is equally critical to our national economic aspirations," he said.

Anwar Says Govt Steadily Lowering Fiscal Deficit
Credits to PMO FB The government is reducing the fiscal deficit gradually to prevent disruptions in funding for essential programmes such as education, healthcare and the Rahmah Cash Aid (STR), said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. He told the Dewan Rakyat during Ministerial Question Time that the deficit stood at 5.5% of gross domestic product in 2022 before being brought down to 5% in 2023 and further reduced to 4.1% in 2024. 'Our target is to reduce the deficit gradually in phases. As long as the deficit is not reduced, the debt amount will increase,' Anwar said. He noted that new debt had been declining in recent years: RM100 billion in 2021, RM99 billion in 2022, RM92.6 billion in 2023 and RM76.8 billion in 2024. Anwar added that the phased approach allows higher allocations for key sectors. 'Last year, STR and Rahmah Basic Aid (Sara) allocations rose to RM15 billion, and the Education Ministry received the highest increase to RM64 billion, while the Health Ministry received a RM45 billion rise.' He said this policy had been positively received, reflected in improved confidence among both foreign and domestic investors.

Anwar: Federal Government Committed To Defending Sabah's Rights And Sovereignty
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim reaffirmed the federal government's unwavering commitment to defending Sabah's rights and Malaysia's territorial sovereignty, declaring that Putrajaya is prepared to take the matter to international courts if necessary. 'Sabah is an integral part of Malaysia. We will not allow even an inch of our land or sea to be encroached upon. 'Whether in Spanish courts or any other international forum, we will fight to the maximum to defend Sabah's rights,' Anwar said. He stressed that the government has already committed tens of millions of ringgit, possibly up to RM100 million, toward legal efforts to safeguard the country's territorial integrity, following ongoing foreign claims on Sabah. Underscoring his administration's commitment to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), Anwar said the federal government is working closely with Sabah to meet long-standing development demands, ensure strong state-federal relations and deliver on key infrastructure promises. Among the milestones highlighted was the doubling of the interim special grant for Sabah from RM300 million to RM600 million, and the RM10 billion allocation to complete the long-delayed Pan Borneo Highway. 'The project was delayed under the previous government. It may not be completed yet, but the funding has been approved and work is progressing,' Anwar noted. He also announced significant steps to empower Sabah in managing its own utilities, including full authority over electricity supply and RM3.54 billion in subsidies through 2030. To address chronic water issues, Anwar said RM300 million has been approved, alongside the transfer of smaller-scale infrastructure projects (under RM50 million) to the state's control. 'Our commitment is not just legal or political, it is developmental and structural. Sabah's future is Malaysia's future,' he concluded.
