The meeting held under the directives of the Second Additional District Judge here also secured VMC's cooperation for an upcoming 'Clean & Green' programme at the court premises.
The delegation included Bezwada Bar Association president AK Basha, general secretary KV Ranga Rao, vice-president Pilla Srinivasa Rao, and treasurer Muddada Satyanarayana. They were joined by former Bar Association president and Municipal Corporation Standing Counsel Pilla Ravi.
During the discussion, the Bar Association submitted a formal representation emphasising the critical need for improved hygiene in public places, particularly public toilets. They also requested the Commissioner's support for a 'Clean & Green Programme' scheduled for July 19 at the court premises, asking for a sweeping machine and additional staff to assist with the clean-up.
Commissioner Dhyanachandra reportedly responded positively to the requests. He assured the delegation that VMC staff would attend and participate in the 'Clean & Green Programme' at the court.

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Thursday said it would first hear arguments on August 6 on the issue of maintainability of the petitions seeking a review of its July 2022 verdict that upheld the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) powers to arrest, attach properties allegedly involved in money laundering, and carry out search and seizure under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). A three-judge bench of Justices Surya Kant, Ujjal Bhuyan and N Kotiswar Singh noted that the ED has proposed three preliminary issues that primarily deal with the question of the review petitions' maintainability. The bench said the review petitioners have proposed 13 questions for its consideration. It noted the submissions of the questions raised by both parties and fixed the matter for further hearing on August 6. 'Since the proposed issues are arising in the review proceedings, we propose to first hear the parties on the issue of maintainability of the review petitions, followed by a hearing on the questions proposed to be raised on behalf of the review petitioners. Eventually, the questions that would finally arise for consideration will also be determined by us if we hold that the review petitions are maintainable,' the bench observed. The Supreme Court had on 4 May 2025 reconstituted a new bench to hear a batch of review petitions filed against the Vijay Madanlal Choudhary (VMC) judgment, which upheld certain provisions of the PMLA. The VMC judgment was delivered on 27 July 2022 by a three-judge bench headed by Justice A M Khanwilkar, and Justices Dinesh Maheshwari and C T Ravikumar (all now retired). It upheld certain provisions of the PMLA. 'Sections 5, 8 (4), 15, 17 and 19 of PMLA, relating to the Directorate's power of attachment, search and seizure, and arrest is upheld,' the top court had said.

VMC gets tough on debris dumping in water bodies
Vadodara: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) has warned of strict action against those dumping construction waste in the Vishwamitri river and other water bodies. The dumping of construction waste in the river was discussed at a meeting between civic officials and the expert committee appointed by the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC). The committee has thus far brought out two reports, its first report and a supplementary one. Another supplementary report will likely be released soon. The committee on Monday raised the dumping of construction waste in the river. VMC commissioner Arun Mahesh Babu asked the officials concerned to investigate the matter and take strict action. On Monday, the VMC issued a warning and began a drive against the disposal of building debris in the river. The civic body reiterated that the disposal of such waste in the river and water bodies is illegal. The VMC has a system to lift such waste and take it to two designated locations. VMC appealed to citizens to inform it about instances of illegal construction waste dumping. The civic body will invoke the Environment (Construction and Demolition) Waste Management Rules, 2025, against violators.
