
Pakistan Crypto Council's meeting on Monday
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Crypto Council will convene a high-level meeting on Monday, 2nd June 2025, to be chaired by Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue. The meeting will serve as a strategic forum to deliberate on the evolving regulatory and legal framework surrounding digital currency and the broader crypto landscape in Pakistan.
Bilal Bin Saqib, Minister of State/Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Blockchain and Crypto, will participate in his capacity as the chief executive officer of the Pakistan Crypto Council.
The meeting will also be attended by members of the council, including the governor, State Bank of Pakistan (SBP); chairman, Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP); secretary, Law and Justice Division; and secretary, Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication.
Key items on the agenda include the development of a robust regulatory framework to govern digital and virtual assets in Pakistan, in alignment with global standards and technological advancements.
A focal point of discussion will be the groundwork for the establishment of the Pakistan Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (PVARA) — a proposed autonomous body to oversee the digital finance and crypto ecosystem in the country.
The council aims to lay the foundation for a secure, transparent, and innovation-friendly regulatory environment, with a view to promoting responsible adoption of blockchain technology, protecting investors, and enhancing financial inclusion.

Future spread down 679 bps
KARACHI: The futures spread declined by 679 basis points, closing at 5.19 percent on the final trading day of the week ending May 30, 2025, compared to 11.98 percent in the previous week. FBR may impose 18pc ST on locally-manufactured cars
ISLAMABAD: The government is likely to impose standard rate of 18 percent sales tax on locally manufactured or assembled motorcars having engine capacity 850cc in budget (25-26). In this connection, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is reviewing the budget proposal to amend the Eighth Schedule of the Sales Tax Act 1990. Presently, 12.5 percent sales tax is applicable on locally manufactured or assembled motorcars of cylinder capacity up to 850cc. In case FBR's proposal is approved, the FBR will delete entry number 72 of the Eighth Schedule of the Sales Tax Act 1990. FBR may allow import of 5-year-old used vehicles It is a revenue generation measure for 2025-26 as the FBR is reviewing all sales tax exemptions and lower rates to bring them at part with the standard rate of sales tax from 2025-26, officials added. The goods specified in the Eighth schedule shall be charged to tax at such rates and subject to such conditions and limitations as specified therein, Sales Tax Act 1990 added. KARACHI: Rupee depreciated against the US dollar during the previous week as it lost Re0.04 or 0.01% in the inter-bank market. The local unit closed at 282.02, against 282.06 it had closed the week earlier against the greenback, according to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP). A rise in import demand has put pressure on the local currency, according to analysts. Meanwhile, the foreign exchange reserves held by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) increased by $70 million on a weekly basis, clocking in at $11.52 billion as of May 23, data released on Thursday showed. Total liquid foreign reserves held by the country stood at $16.64 billion. Net foreign reserves held by commercial banks stood at $5.12 billion. The central bank did not attribute any reason to the increase in the FX reserves. Open-market rates In the open market, the PKR lost 25.00 paisa for buying and 40.00 paisa for selling against USD, closing at 282.90 and 284.15, respectively. Against Euro, the PKR lost 4.56 rupees for buying and 4.30 rupees for selling, closing at 320.52 and 322.86, respectively. Against UAE Dirham, the PKR lost 15.00 paisa for buying and 10.00 paisa for selling, closing at 77.14 and 77.55, respectively.
