New AI app claims it can read your mind through your face. Here's how
mental health awareness
is on the rise and technology is more personal than ever, a new artificial intelligence application is blurring the line between self-care and surveillance.
Emobot
, a French medical tech startup, has developed an app that uses facial recognition to monitor emotional states—just from your smartphone's selfie camera.
The app is already being used by hundreds of patients, mainly in France, where it is classified as a medical device. According to
The Metro
, Emobot tracks facial expressions throughout the day and creates emotion graphs much like a fitness tracker logs steps or heart rate. The goal? To help psychiatrists monitor mood swings, gauge treatment effectiveness, and even detect early signs of relapse in patients battling depression.
It Watches You—But Not Like You Think
Understandably, the idea of an app that keeps your camera running in the background all day might raise some eyebrows. Emobot co-founder Samuel Lerman admitted to
The Metro
that the team was initially "skeptical" about user acceptance. 'The camera is open in the background all the time,' he explained. 'However, the feedback was pretty good.'

To address privacy concerns, Lerman clarified that no visual data is transmitted to a central server or stored. All AI processing takes place locally on the user's phone, and any images are immediately deleted after analysis. In its next iteration, the app may also analyze users' voice tones through the phone's microphone to gather more data on emotional well-being.
The Face of Future Healthcare?
When
Metro
reporter Jen Mills tested Emobot's emotion recognition tech at the VivaTech conference in Paris, the live facial analysis software identified her as 'pleased' and 'bored' at the same time—highlighting the complex spectrum of human emotion the app attempts to map.

Lerman believes Emobot is a breakthrough in mental health diagnostics. 'It helps doctors track patients' responses to treatment as well as detect sudden deterioration of their mood,' he said. It could serve as a real-time warning system for depression and burnout, particularly for users at high risk of relapse.
Emobot's launch comes amid a larger trend within the tech world, where mental health is becoming a central focus. At VivaTech 2025, which featured over 14,000 startups from 50 countries, AI-powered healthcare solutions were among the most discussed innovations. The surge in interest reflects a growing belief that digital tools can—and should—be used to support mental well-being in daily life.

Dibrugarh launches vaccination drive for stray dogs
Dibrugarh: In a collaborative effort to promote animal welfare, the Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation (DMC), State Veterinary Dispensary, and the NGO Animal Welfare People conducted a mass vaccination drive for stray dogs at AT Road in Naliapool on Thursday. The initiative aims to control the spread of rabies and other diseases, ensuring safer coexistence between humans and stray animals. Around 80 stray dogs were vaccinated on the first day of the campaign, which also included basic health check-ups. Mayor Saikat Patra, who oversaw the programme, emphasised the administration's commitment to the welfare of street animals while addressing public health concerns. "This vaccination drive is being carried out to create a safer environment for both animals and residents. We are pleased with the response on the first day, and I want to assure the public that this drive will continue systematically across different areas of the city. Vaccinating stray dogs is essential not only for their health but also for preventing disease transmission to humans and other animals," he said. The initiative focuses on administering vaccines to stray dogs, a crucial measure for preventing the spread of rabies and other communicable diseases. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 20 Pieces of Clothing you should Ditch over 40 Learn More Undo Veterinary professionals from the State Veterinary Dispensary worked alongside volunteers from Animal Welfare People to ensure the smooth execution of the programme. The vaccinated dogs were marked with non-toxic paint to avoid duplicate doses. Municipal authorities have requested residents to report locations with high stray dog populations to facilitate future vaccination drives and ensure comprehensive coverage across the city. "Community participation has been encouraging. Many residents have been helping us identify locations where stray dogs congregate, making our work more efficient. Rabies is a fatal disease, and mass vaccination is the most effective way to curb its transmission. We urge residents to support such initiatives," Patra said. Bird flu cases detected in 2 Rampur poultry farms
Lucknow: With some cases of bird flu detected in two poultry farms in Rampur, the state govt has stepped up monitoring and inspection of poultry farms across the state to prevent the spread of the infection. After the detection of positive cases, the department of animal husbandry declared a surveillance zone in an area of one to 10 km around the farms. A senior official said that the situation was controlled locally and remained normal across other parts of the state. In all other districts of the state, the situation remains normal. Samples of dead birds from a third farm were sent to Bhopal for testing and the report is expected in a day or two. Dr Rajendra Prasad, additional director of poultry in UP, stated that directives have been issued to all districts and poultry farms are being continuously inspected. The borders of Bilaspur, Rampur and Swar, adjoining the Uttarakhand border, have been sealed. The Maharaja Poultry Farm is being sanitised, after which it will be sealed. If the report is positive, action will be taken according to Union govt's action plan," he said. The first report of bird deaths came from Captain Poultry Farm in Rampur. The matter was investigated and samples were sent to the National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases Laboratory in Bhopal, which reported that the deaths were due to bird flu. Dr Brijesh Kumar Tripathi, deputy director, poultry, claimed that the situation was under control and that an area within one km radius of the impacted farms had been declared an infected zone, where domestic birds, eggs, etc., have been destroyed. The farms were sanitised and sealed. In the surveillance zone, Rapid Response Teams (RRT) were conducting continuous surveillance and samples were being collected to ensure that the infection has not spread. "This area has been declared a restricted zone, preventing birds and eggs from entering or leaving. The virus is destroyed at 70 degrees Celsius in 30 minutes, so boiling eggs and poultry products reduces the risk of infection," he said.
