Aubrey Plaza details ‘daily struggle' after death of her husband Jeff Baena

Yahoo14 hours ago
Aubrey Plaza has said it is a 'daily struggle' following the death of her estranged husband Jeff Baena.
The filmmaker died in January at the age of 47, with the Los Angeles County medical examiner concluding he took his own life.
The director and screenwriter was found at a home close to the Fern Dell Nature Trail near the Hollywood Hills, with the cause of his death determined as hanging.
Plaza discussed dealing with grief during an appearance on her Parks and Recreation co-star Amy Poehler's podcast.
She said: 'Right in this very, very present moment, I feel happy to be with you.
'Overall, I'm here and I'm functioning. I feel really grateful to be moving through the world. I think I'm ok, but it's like a daily struggle, obviously.'
She told Poehler's Good Hang podcast that she compared her grief to the 2025 movie The Gorge, which stars Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy.
She said: 'This is a really dumb analogy and it was kind of a joke at a certain point, but I actually mean it. Did you see that movie The Gorge? … In the movie, there's a cliff on one side and there's a cliff on the other side, then there's a gorge in between and it's filled with all these monster people that are trying to get them.
'I swear, when I watched it, I was like that feels like what my grief is like … or what grief could be like.
'At all times, there's like a giant ocean of awfulness, that's right there and I can see it.
'Sometimes I just want to dive into it, and just like be in it. Then sometimes I just look at it, and sometimes I try to get away from it. But, it's always there.'
Plaza separated from Baena in September 2024, according to a report by the Los Angeles County Coroner Investigator.
The couple had been in a relationship since around 2011 and they married a decade later.
Plaza told The Ellen DeGeneres Show in December 2021 that they made the decision to tie the knot after getting 'a little bored one night' during the Covid pandemic.
The pair worked together on the 2014 horror film Life After Beth and 2017 historical comedy The Little Hours.
Plaza is best known for her role as April in the workplace comedy Parks and Recreation, in which Poehler played politician Leslie Knope.
She is also famous for her role in the second series of The White Lotus and the Marvel series Agatha All Along.
She has also starred in Hollywood films including Megalopolis, My Old Ass, Ingrid Goes West, Dirty Grandpa and Emily The Criminal.
Baena wrote 2020 thriller Horse Girl, starring Alison Brie, and 2022 dark comedy Spin Me Round, both of which he also directed, as well as 2004 comedy I Heart Huckabees, starring Jude Law, Jason Schwartzman, Dustin Hoffman and Mark Wahlberg.
He also created the anthology comedy series Cinema Toast, which had an episode directed by Plaza and another starring Community actress Alison Brie.

THE MARVELS Director Nia DaCosta Comments on the Film's Low Numbers Pointing to "Lack of a Really Solid Script" — GeekTyrant

The Marvels (2023) served as a sequel to not only Captain Marvel (2019), but also the limited series Ms. Marvel , and it incorporated the returning characters into a team that worked together to save the universe. It was a fun flick, but it did not do well at the box office, and it unfortunately ended up being Marvel's lowest-grossing movie of all time. Looking back on it, director Nia DaCosta revealed to THR that it really seems to her like the script was the biggest obstacle in making the movie a success. DaCosta is making the rounds promoting her upcoming film 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple , and she said of the difference in the projects: 'Making the 28 Years Later sequel was one of the best filmmaking experiences I've had. One of the issues I had with Candyman and Marvels was the lack of a really solid script, which is always gonna just wreak havoc on the whole process.' DaCosta was a co-writer on both of those films, but she is also relatively early in her career, and she is learning new things with every film she makes, so it's great to see the missteps along the way and learn from them. The 28 Years Later sequel will be released on January 16, 2026, and her romantic drama Hedda , starring Tessa Thompson, is set to be released on October 22, 2025.

'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' Set Photo May Reveal New Villain

One of Marvel's biggest franchises happens to be the MCU Spider-Man movie series starring Tom Holland as the titular character. Holland is set to reprise his role for the upcoming fourth installment of the series, Spider-Man: Brand New Day , with plenty of other characters joining the fold. Now one such potential character, a new villain, might've just been been revealed in a newly-surfaced Spider-Man: Brand New Day set photo. Quite a few villains and other hero characters have been teased or outright confirmed for the new film, though this particular villain is completely unprecedented. As such, fans may have to wait for an official confirmation, but the below set photo suggests that they're a likely candidate for appearing in the new sequel. As you can see below, the new Spider-Man: Brand New Day set photo teases the character's villain with the inclusion of an armored vehicle. It's the logo attached to this vehicle, however, that has the attention of Spider-Man fans. Here's the image: New look at a decal on the Armored vehicles on the set of Spider-man Brand New Day Via: @ComicAcolyte — Spider-Man News (@SpiderMan_Newz) August 12, 2025 It's a logo featuring the head of a large cat, prompting fans to think that it represents the comic book character Puma. While Puma's involvement hasn't been fully confirmed, it would make sense, given the film's focus on street-level villains including some that have already been announced like Michael Mando's Scorpion. In addition to Holland as Spider-Man and Mando as Scorpion, the film also includes Jon Bernthal as The Punisher, Mark Ruffalo as Hulk, along with Sadie Sink and Liza Colón-Zayas. This is certainly shaping up to be a very different kind of Spider-Man movie for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so hopefully we'll have more information regarding these developments in the near future. The highly-anticipated MCU follow-up Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to hit theaters on July 31, 2026. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates as we have them.
