Séamus Power stays in contention at John Deere Classic
The Waterford man had been within three strokes of Doug Ghim after the halfway stage on Friday but with defending champion Davis Thompson now assuming the summit following his 67 on Saturday, Power remains within sight of the new leader by the same margin going into Sunday's final round in Illinois.
Power's front nine on Saturday was a mixed bag as he started to build momentum with back-to-back birdies on five and six. But he followed that up with bogeys on seven and nine.
However, he found form on the back nine, with another set of back-to-back birdies on 11 and 12 before finishing with a flourish on the 18th.
That leaves Power on 12 under in a four-way tie for sixth going into Sunday's tournament climax at the TPC Deere Run course.
Meanwhile, defending champion Thompson established a one-shot lead after his four-under 67 took him to 15 under for the week in Illinois, one ahead of fellow Americans Brian Campbell, Max Homa and David Lipsky, as well as Argentina's Emiliano Grillo. Ghim dropped back to nine under and a tie for 21st after a 74.
Homa, who has dropped from the top 10 to 99th in the world rankings over the last year and recently found himself carrying his own bag during US Open qualifying, was pleased to be back in contention.
"Golf is just been very boring for me this year," he said in quotes on pgatour.com.
"I haven't had a whole lot of stress, and you want to be stressed out.
"So I look forward to the butterflies in the morning; I look forward to the first tee shot.
"It's just nice to get to feel that again. It's been a while."

Costly double bogey on the last curbs Séamus Power's momentum in Minnesota
SÉAMUS POWER'S OTHERWISE excellent start to the 3M Open took a hit with a double bogey on the last hole of his second round in Minnesota. Power sits five shots off Danish leader Thorbjorn Olesen at TPC Twin Cities after a galling four-putt on 18 saw him shoot a still-impressive 66 on Friday. Advertisement Waterford's Power, a two-time winner on the PGA Tour, registered two eagles and four birdies to climb into the top five as he approached the halfway mark of the tournament. His two dropped shots on the last leave him in a six-way tie for 18th, nine under for the tournament. After a four-under-par 67 on Thursday, Power began his second round on the back nine and got off to a flier, birdieing the 10th and then sinking a 12-foot putt for eagle on the 12th. Power birdied again on the 18th, and then on the second, before suffering a first bogey on the par-4 third. He gained momentum again on the par-five sixth, draining a 16-footer for eagle before birdieing the seventh to move to 11 under for the tournament. But disaster struck on the ninth, Power's final hole, when he missed a three-foot putt for bogey. Leader Olesen had opened with a sizzling 62 on Thursday and consolidated his advantage with a second-round 66 to lead Jake Knapp by a single stroke at the halfway mark in Minnesota. Americans Pierceson Coody and Sam Stevens are in a tie for third on 12-under.

Seamus Power's impressive charge undone by late hiccup at 3M Open
Seamus Power is five strokes adrift of the lead heading into the weekend after a costly double-bogey at his last hole marred an otherwise fine second round at the 3M Open in Minnesota. The two-time PGA Tour winner recorded two eagles and four birdies to climb into the top-five before a wretched four-putt saw him fall five shots back from the leader, Denmark's Thorbjorn Olesen. At four-under par overnight and starting on the back nine, Power got a quick start, birdieing the 10th and then draining a 12-footer for eagle on the 12th. Further birdies followed on the 18th and second before his sole dropped stroke on the par-4 third. He found another burst down the stretch, firing his second shot to the par-5 sixth into 16ft and sinking the putt. Another birdie putt fell at the seventh to take Power to 11-under. Much of that was undone following a disastrous ninth, the Waterford golfer missing a three-footer for bogey. Power, who last won on the PGA Tour at the 2022 Bermuda Championship, has endured an injury-hit season so far, withdrawing from both the Canadian Open and US Open qualifying. He has recorded one top-10 finish in 2025 with a tied-eighth showing at the Valspar Championship in late March. Olesen followed up his scintillating opening day 62 with a round of 66 to lead at the midway point at 14-under par, one stroke clear of Jake Knapp. American duo of Pierceson Coody and Sam Stevens are in tied-third on 12-under.
