Rico Hoey leads at the Barracuda as Séamus Power misses the cut

Rico Hoey holds a slender one-point lead going into the weekend at the Barracuda Championship following a consecutive 13-point round, but Ireland's Séamus Power failed to make the cut. The event uses the Modified Stableford scoring system, with players receiving two points for a birdie, five for an eagle and eight for an albatross, and deducted one point for a bogey and three for a double. Manilla-born Hoey stands at 26 points overall after a second round that contained a six birdies and a bogey. Barracuda Championship 2025 Golf Leaderboard - PGA TOUR American Max McGreevy and Erik van Rooyen share second, a point further back. The cut mark was +11 and Seamus Power was a point the wrong side. A double-bogey six on his first hole proved costly, as did bogeys on 10 and 18. He did, however, post four birdies on the back nine but agonisingly just missed out at this PGA-DP World Tour co-sanctioned event.

Séamus Power stays in contention at John Deere Classic

Séamus Power remains in contention among the chasing pack at the John Deere Classic after a third-round 68 kept him within three shots of the lead. The Waterford man had been within three strokes of Doug Ghim after the halfway stage on Friday but with defending champion Davis Thompson now assuming the summit following his 67 on Saturday, Power remains within sight of the new leader by the same margin going into Sunday's final round in Illinois. Power's front nine on Saturday was a mixed bag as he started to build momentum with back-to-back birdies on five and six. But he followed that up with bogeys on seven and nine. However, he found form on the back nine, with another set of back-to-back birdies on 11 and 12 before finishing with a flourish on the 18th. That leaves Power on 12 under in a four-way tie for sixth going into Sunday's tournament climax at the TPC Deere Run course. Meanwhile, defending champion Thompson established a one-shot lead after his four-under 67 took him to 15 under for the week in Illinois, one ahead of fellow Americans Brian Campbell, Max Homa and David Lipsky, as well as Argentina's Emiliano Grillo. Ghim dropped back to nine under and a tie for 21st after a 74. Homa, who has dropped from the top 10 to 99th in the world rankings over the last year and recently found himself carrying his own bag during US Open qualifying, was pleased to be back in contention. "Golf is just been very boring for me this year," he said in quotes on "I haven't had a whole lot of stress, and you want to be stressed out. "So I look forward to the butterflies in the morning; I look forward to the first tee shot. "It's just nice to get to feel that again. It's been a while."

Tommy Fleetwood continues quest to end long and lucrative winless streak

It's not always all about the money you know, especially when it comes to Tommy Fleetwood , who suffered another heartbreaking loss – this time to Keegan Bradley in The Travelers Championship – in his continuing quest to win on the PGA Tour . Fleetwood has amassed a total of $31,122,462 (€26.9 million) in his winless PGA Tour career, this latest runner-up finish contributing $1.76 million to that haul. But what the Englishman truly wants is for that long-awaited win to come his way after so many near misses, this latest one coming on the back of a closing bogey (his putt on the last diverted at the death by a ball mark) while Bradley birdied on a similar line. Of that winless streak (from 159 starts on the PGA Tour, with six runners-up finishes), Fleetwood remarked: 'Obviously there's a lot of chat about it. I would have loved to have done it today. Search goes on, I guess. When it happens, it will be very, very sweet. 'You know, like in my mind, I've won loads of PGA Tour events, I just haven't done it in reality and I'm sure that time will come if I keep working.' READ MORE One positive upshot for Fleetwood following his runner-up finish to Bradley is that he has moved up five places to second on Europe's Ryder Cup standings for the match against the United States in Bethpage in September. Power needs a surge in form Séamus Power – forced to withdraw from the recent Canadian Open due to injury, having also been forced out of the US Open final qualifying – returns to tournament action at this week's Rocket Mortgage tournament, where he is the lone Irish player in the field. Currently 118th on the FedEx Cup standings, Power will need to find some form in an inconsistent season to date – in his 15 tournaments so far he has made seven cuts, with four top-25s, but also missed seven, as well as having to make that withdrawal. He has to play his way into the top 100 to retain his full tour card. Dubliner Conor Purcell is the lone Irishman in the field at the Italian Open at Monte Argentario while there are five Irish players – Lauren Walsh, Anna Foster, Annabel Wilson, Canice Screen and Olivia Mehaffey – in the field at the Amundi German Masters on the Ladies European Tour. By the Numbers: 9 Bradley's win in The Travelers has moved him to ninth in the US Ryder Cup standings and leaves him poised to become the first playing captain since Arnold Palmer in 1963. 'This changes the story a little bit. I never would have thought about playing if I hadn't won. This definitely opens the door to play.' Photograph:Word of Mouth 'It's brutal out there when it comes to the set-up of the golf course, wind conditions, everything ... I mean, I think we played a two ball in like six hours. That's just a little ridiculous, but, what can you do?' – world number one Nelly Korda on the difficulty of the conditions and the course set-up at PGA Frisco in Texas for the KPMG Women's PGA Championship. Minjee Lee of Australia – one of only three players to finish under par – won her third career Major title. Leona Maguire snapped a run of four missed cuts to finish in tied-19th, which moved her to 57th on the LPGA Tour season's standings. Maguire's payday saw her break the $5 million mark in career earnings on the LPGA Tour. On this day: June 24th, 1979 Lee Trevino won his third Canadian Open at the Jack Nicklaus-designed Glen Abbey course in Ontario when he took advantage of an untypical final round collapse from Tom Watson. Super Mex claimed his first win of the season on the PGA Tour and the 22nd of his career with a final-round 71 for a total of three-under-par 281 in unlikely fashion when Watson – who'd held a three-stroke advantage through 54 holes – suffered a triple-bogey six on the par-3 sixth hole that opened the door for Trevino. On that par-3 Watson put his tee shot in the water and, after taking a penalty drop, proceeded to hit his next shot into a hazard and would ultimately card a six. On the back nine, Watson then suffered three successive bogeys from the 12th to 14th. Trevino had three shots to spare over runner-up Ben Crenshaw while Watson had to settle for third. The win was notable for Trevino in that the $63,000 pay-day moved him past $2 million in career earnings, joining Nicklaus in achieving such a milestone: 'Now I'm going for $3 million. There's always a goal, always something else to try for.' Social Swing Another week, another W for #TeamSrixon @Keegan_Bradley gets it done at The Travelers Championship! – Srixon on a bit of a streak, Bradley's win backing up JJ Spaun's US Open success. Thumbs up for going bogey free all tournament! Hopefully next time a few more birdies will drop @CzechLadiesOpen @LETgolf Lots of positives to take from the last couple of weeks on the road! – Lauren Walsh on not dropping a shot all tournament in the Czech Open, where she finished tied-31st in a tournament won by South African Casandra Alexander. The Kildare golfer is 12th on the LET standings and is in the field for this week's Amundi German Masters in advance of next week's KPMG Irish Women's Open at Carton House, where she is the touring professional. 72 again today. 7 over, tied 53rd. I only hit 71 times as I also incurred a penalty for marking and picking up my ball to place it. There was no placing today after the first two days with placing. I hit it better on the range afterwards so hopefully better days ahead – Pádraig Harrington following the Kaulig Championship won by Miguel Angel Jimenez, the Spaniard's fourth win of the season. Harrington will be hoping for better form at this week's US Seniors Open at Colorado Springs, where Darren Clarke is also competing. Séamus Power labours to opening 73 at Charles Schwab Challenge

Séamus Power endured a tricky opening round at the Charles Schwab Challenge where a three-over par 73 sees the Waterford man 10 shots off the lead. Power, who missed the cut at last week's US PGA Championship, three-putted on his first hole (10th) and struggled to find any early momentum in Fort Worth, Texas, dropping further shots at the 13th, 17th and 18th. A birdie at the par-three 16th, where he landed his tee shot within 13 feet of the flag, was a boost, while the highlight of the round undoubtedly came at his next par-three hole (4th). Power pulled the tee shot left of the green before executing wonderful chip from almost 90 metres to perfection to move to two-over. That however was given back at the 8th, Power's penultimate hole, when the 38-year-old found a greenside bunker on his way to a bogey. World No 1 Scottie Scheffler trails PGA Tour rookie John Pak by five strokes, days after clinching the US PGA Championship. The three-time major winner made an early statement with an eagle on the first hole, adding a pair of birdies on his way to a two-under par 68. Pak is the man to catch with a seven-under par 63 that included an eagle at his first hole (10th) and five birdies in a blemish-free round.

Séamus Power feeling close to his best again after 'frustrating couple of years'

Séamus Power says he is starting to feel like he is getting close to his best again after a "frustrating coupe of years". The Waterford man is among a five-strong contingent of Irish golfers at Quail Hollow for the year's second major, with Power joining Masters champion Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry, Tom McKibbin and former champion Padraig Harrington in in teeing off in the first round of the US PGA Championship on Thursday. But it's has often been a challenging period for the 38-year-old since he achieved a top-ten finish at the PGA Championship in Oklahoma three years ago. However, Power, who has won twice on the PGA Tour - at events in 2021 and 2022 - is feeling positive about what lies in store. "I made a change there last week and it feels like it really helped me get going again so that's been big," he told RTÉ Sport's Greg Allen. "But everything else has just been a little off and when you're a little off out here, it's just not much. "I missed the cut in Houston, I think by one, and I missed another cut by one here. It's just little things like that. "It feels like it's very close to being good again. So this is part of my year where I feel like I usually play some of my best. It's into golf courses I kind of like, golf courses I know a little better. "So looking forward it. Like I said, everything feels like it's coming around but obviously you have to go out there and get the results and put it on paper. But it feels like it's close, so it's always nice feeling." Power also said he is feeling well health-wise after overcoming injury issues and after missing a small number of tournaments last year before getting the all-clear on a skin cancer lesion. "I feel amazing now which is great," he said. "The speed now, I just have to get back to work on that. Especially when you're playing out here today, probably the noticeable thing and probably down clubhead speed three, four, five miles an hour, ball probably down six, seven, eight. "That you're certainly going to miss this week. But that's going to be the thing, everything feels great now, I found a really good PT that's made an awful difference and everything really feels great. "I'm back to being able to work out fully and do speed work and do the things you need to do, especially with the modern game. "It was a frustrating couple of years and it was just like one of the things you thought would never kind of end. But it's really in a good spot now so hopefully now it's in the rearview mirror now for a long time."
