Manchester United are pursuing a deal for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko.
United's misfiring frontline was a major issue last term and the club are looking to sign a striker this summer, and the PA news agency understands that Sesko is in their sights ahead of the new season.
The Slovenia international, 22, has long been on the club's radar and is also a target of Newcastle, who missed out on Frankfurt's Hugo Ekitike to Liverpool and have an unsettled star in Alexander Isak.
United also like Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins but Sesko – who could reportedly be available for in the region of £70million – is understood to be their current priority.
Diaz signs out at Liverpool

Colombia forward Luis Diaz has left Liverpool for Bayern Munich.
Diaz signed a four-year deal with the Bundesliga champions after a fee understood to be £65million was agreed between the two clubs.
'I'm very happy, it means a lot to me to be part of FC Bayern – it's one of the biggest clubs in the world,' Diaz told the German club's website.
Diaz scored 41 goals in 148 appearances during his three-and-a-half-year stay on Merseyside, winning the Premier League, FA Cup and two Carabao Cups.

Rangers drew 1-1 at Panathinaikos for a 3-1 aggregate success and progression to the third qualifying round of the Champions League.
Djeidi Gassama was the super-sub once again after coming off the bench on debut last week to score in a 2-0 Ibrox win.
Filip Djuricic opened the scoring with a header in the 53rd minute but, moments after climbing off the bench, Gassama levelled for Russell Martin's side with a stunning drive.
Rangers next play Viktoria Plzen, of the Czech Republic, who were 3-2 aggregate winners over Swiss side Servette.
Palace to learn European fate
Crystal Palace fans protest against their European competition demotion (Yui Mok/PA)
A date has been set to decide Crystal Palace's European fate.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport has announced that August 11 will be the day to determine whether Palace will play in the Europa League or the Conference League this season.
The Eagles were demoted from the Europa League to the Conference League by European football's governing body UEFA after it determined that as of March 1, American businessman John Textor had control or influence at Palace and French club Lyon.
FA Cup winners Palace appealed against the decision to CAS and the court has now confirmed that a hearing will take place on August 8, followed by a verdict three days later.

Rasmus Hojlund rejects interest from club which could hinder Benjamin Sesko move
RB Leipzig are interested in Manchester United's Rasmus Hojlund but the striker has made it clear he does not want to make the move, according to reports. The Denmark international's future at Old Trafford is up in the air after failing to convince in his first two seasons with the club. Hojlund joined the Red Devils from Atalanta for an initial £64m in 2023 and has since scored 14 Premier League goals in 62 appearances, netting 26 times in 95 outings across all competitions. His first campaign was reasonably encouraging, but last season was very difficult for him as he struggled for confidence and any kind of form. Manchester United have brought in forward Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo this summer, while they are also being linked with centre forwards as their rebuild continues. Wake up to find news on your club in your inbox every morning with Metro's Football Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your team in the link so we can send you football news tailored to you. Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko is a key target, although the Red Devils face competition from Newcastle, who have made a bid for the striker. The Slovenian striker is not in the Leipzig squad for a pre-season friendly against Atalanta on Saturday and a move to either Old Trafford or St James' Park looks likely. It had been reported that the 22-year-old preferred a move to Manchester, but more recent reports suggested the Magpies were leading the race to sign him and have made a bid worth €75m (£65.5m) + €5m (£4.37m). Manchester United's chances of signing Sesko may be hurt by Hojlund having no interest in going the other way as they look for a replacement. TalkSPORT report that Hojlund is aware of Leipzig being interested in his signature but has made it clear he does not want to make the move to the team that finished seventh in the Bundesliga last season. If Leipzig are not able to get the replacement they want and Manchester United cannot bring in funds from selling Hojlund, it could hamper their move for Sesko. The Dane has been clear in his stance that he intends to stay at Old Trafford and fight for his place in Ruben Amorim's first team. 'I think my plan is very clear and that is for me to stay and fight for my spot whatever happens,' said Hojlund during Manchester United's pre-season trip to America. 'I am still very young. I think people sometimes forget that. I am only 22 years old. I have learned a lot, and I think that shows in my game. 'I have done very well so far during the pre-season.' The Red Devils are desperate to secure some sales this summer, with deals to get rid of the likes of Jadon Sancho, Antony, Alejandro Garnacho and Tyrell Malacia proving tricky to strike. More Trending Marcus Rashford has moved on loan to Barcelona, but moves for the other four transfer listed players are not imminent. All four were left out of the pre-season trip to the States and appear to have no future with the Red Devils, but interested clubs are struggling to match Manchester United's and the players' demands. RB Leipzig are also making big sales this summer, with Xavi Simons on the brink of joining Chelsea. Odsonne Edouard ends Celtic transfer return talk as Crystal Palace cut losses on striker for cut-price fee
The French hitman is on the verge of completing a move to La Liga cracks Girona Odsonne Edouard will kickstart his career in La Liga after jumping at the chance to end his Crystal Palace nightmare. The ex- Celtic hero was farmed out on loan to Leicester City last season but endured a miserable year and played a single minute under Ruud van Nistelrooij. Frozen-out Edouard hasn't kicked ball since coming off the bench as an 88th-minute sub in November's 3-0 defeat at Manchester United. He returned to Selhurst Park in the summer, aiming to salvage his career with the FA Cup winners. But after being told he wouldn't figure as part of Oliver Glasner's plans, Edouard is on the verge of completing a move to Girona. Edouard moves to Spain as part of a swap deal that will see Arnau Martínez head in the opposite direction for a fee of £8.7million, according to Foot Mercato. It also sees Crystal Palace cut their losses on Edouard after splashing out £14million to land the frontman from Parkhead in summer 2021. Girona are understood to have agreed a cut-price deal worth £5.2m, with Edouard in the final year of his contract at the Eagles. Former PSG kid Edouard scored 21 goals in just over a century of appearances for Palace. Now the 27-year-old - who was linked with a shock return to Celtic earlier this summer - could partner ex-Aberdeen star Bojan Miovski at Girona.
