Colts injuries: Kenny Moore II, Alec Pierce leave Sunday's practice

WESTFIELD, Ind. — Injuries are running rampant for the Colts at training camp.
Veteran slot cornerback Kenny Moore II left early in the team's Sunday session due to a knee injury, and wide receiver Alec Pierce was knocked out of the practice halfway through by a groin injury.
Moore went down early and had his right knee checked, then got up and limped off the field with a trainer, leaving the Colts facing another injury in a cornerback room that has been decimated over the past couple of weeks.
'I just heard a knee,' Indianapolis head coach Shane Steichen said immediately after the practice. 'I don't have any more.'
Any significant injury to Moore would be an enormous blow.
The Colts lost promising third-round pick Justin Walley to a torn ACL in Baltimore, taking a likely starting cornerback away from Lou Anarumo's defense, and the top two candidates for Walley's job, Jaylon Jones and JuJu Brents, each remain out of the lineup due to hamstring injuries suffered in practice.
'I don't have a timetable on their return,' Steichen said.
Pierce's injury may have occurred during 7-on-7 drills. After a couple of periods spent trying to gut through it, Pierce headed to the injury tent to be examined, then returned to the field to test out his ability to practice. Unable to give it a go, Pierce then headed back to the team's Grand Park facilities with a trainer.
Beyond the cornerbacks, the Colts have a long list of players sitting out practice. Starting strong safety Nick Cross has missed the last two days due to a hip flexor, and key defensive end Kwity Paye missed Sunday's practice due to a groin injury. Veteran running back Khalil Herbert has also missed the last two days of practice with a wrap on his leg, and wide receiver D.J. Montgomery has been held out, spending time next to Brents, Jones and Cross on the stationary bike.

Cowboys former third-round pick looks to stave off two key offseason additions

The Cowboys had a few missions when entering the 2024 draft, in what threatened and proved to be the final one for head coach Mike McCarthy. Dallas had to find multiple players for the offensive line and they'd have loved to find a successor for defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence. The front office did both, the latter by bringing in Marshawn Kneeland and the former by virtue of trading back in the first round before selecting Tyler Guyton to then own two third-round selection. The Cowboys used one on now center Cooper Beebe, and the other on Notre Dame linebacker Marist Liufau. The team, having signed free agent Eric Kendricks to run new DC Mike Zimmer's defense, needed a third linebacker to add to the mix. Signs were pointing positive that DeMarvion Overshown would be able to return from his summer 2023 ACL injury, but that was far from assured in April 2024. The team didn't know what they would be getting back, and linebacker was a need. Low and behold, Liufau was everything they could've imagined and more, eventually earning the green dot from Zimmer to take the calls from the sidelines and disseminate the info to the rest of the defense. That's a lot to ask of a rookie, but Liufau did the job, and well. If one would think a player of that caliber mental makeup would take off in their second season in the league, they may have been prescient. Liufau has been a wonder for the Cowboys through 2025 camp, so much so that the new free agent additions brought in to lead new new DC Matt Eberflus' scheme, will have to make way for him to take the lead sooner rather than later. Rundown Position: Lunebacker Age: 24 Height: 6-foot-2 Weight: 239 pounds Hometown: Kalihi, HI High School: Punahou (Honolulu) College: Notre Dame (College Highlights) Draft: 2024 Third-round pick (No. 87 overall) Contract: Four-year contract (2024), $5.7 million 2025 Base Salary: $1 million | Cap Hit: $1.3 million Career Earnings: $1.75 million (per Over The Cap) Profile Liufau will be fighting for snaps against offseason additions Kenneth Murray and Jack Sanborn. Sanborn was a rotational LB for Eberflus in Chicago and was one of those signings new coordinators love to bring with them from a previous stop. Murray was acquired via trade, as a sideline-to-sideline player with high draft pedigree. Liufau looks like he could be the best of both worlds, once he knows enough of the new defense. Once Overshown returns, it will be interesting to see how Eberflus configures the top four backers. His return and Liufau's ascension could coincide with each other to change how the second level of the Dallas defense looks in the second half of the season. Stefon Diggs beats Vikings' No. 1 corner with highlight reel play

New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs had an impressive play against Minnesota Vikings cornerback Byron Murphy at a joint training camp practice on Wednesday. Diggs ran a perfect route in a one-on-one matchup and created enough separation for Patriots quarterback Drake Maye to drop a dime completion along the sideline. A fired-up Diggs celebrated after the highlight-worthy catch. Plays like this one are an encouraging sign for Diggs, who continues to work his way back into the mix after tearing his ACL less than a year ago. The Patriots have needed a playmaking wide receiver for quite some time, and a former four-time Pro Bowler like Diggs could be the one who finally helps take the offense to the next level. Diggs didn't play in the preseason opener, but after seeing him compete on Wednesday, there's hope that he at least has a chance to be on the field for Saturday's game against the Vikings. It would be the first real look at Maye and Diggs together in game action. Follow Patriots Wire on Twitter and Facebook.

Colts sign DE Marcus Haynes

The Colts signed free agent defensive end Marcus Haynes, the team announced Wednesday. They placed wide receiver D.J. Montgomery on injured reserve in a corresponding move. Haynes most recently played for the San Antonio Brahmas of the United Football League in the spring. He has spent time with the Browns (2024-25), Steelers (2024), Texans (2024) and Broncos (2023). Haynes originally signed with the Broncos as an undrafted free agent in 2023. Montgomery, who was on the Colts' practice squad all of last season, has an undisclosed injury. He has spent time with the Colts (2022-25), Texans (2022), Jets (2020-22) and Browns (2019-20). Montgomery has appeared in 10 career games and has registered six receptions for 92 yards and one touchdown.
