Mum of baby found in Alexander Heights drain found and assisting police
WA Police released the statement on Wednesday evening after making a public plea for the woman to come forward.
Officers were called to La Salle Road about 1pm to reports the child's body had been found by two workmen.
On Tuesday, police confirmed the baby was a newborn boy who had been in the drain for 'several days'.
'Homicide squad have taken carriage of this investigation, and we've worked throughout the night and throughout the morning to try and bring a resolution to this investigation,' Detective Senior Sergeant Stephen Cleal said.
'There is no evidence to suggest that that little boy was washed through the drain. What we believe is the child was placed in that drain.'
Cleal said police had 'serious concerns' about the baby's mother.
'It is a priority of the homicide squad to identify the mother of that child,' he said.
'We have serious concerns for the mother's health, the mother's welfare, and that is a priority for us.

Brazilian ex-President Jair Bolsonaro had drafted a letter to Argentina's leader to request political asylum, as authorities moved against him, federal police have revealed. The letter had been saved on Bolsonaro's cell phone in February of last year, two days after his passport was seized, according to police. Bolsonaro was put under house arrest this month after Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes found the former president failed to comply with restraining orders imposed on him for allegedly courting Trump's interference in the case. Legal representatives for Bolsonaro did not immediately respond to requests for comment. De Luca said in a statement on Wednesday evening that he had been targeted for "standing up to Alexandre de Moraes" and that his correspondence was routine legal guidance. "Offering feedback on a short public note or transmitting a public court filing is entirely ordinary. Yet these routine actions are now twisted into conspiracy theories," de Luca said. In a post on X, the younger Bolsonaro, a Brazilian congressman who moved to the US and has been advocating in Washington on behalf of his father, said his work in the US was never aimed at interfering in any ongoing legal process in Brazil. Trump has referred to Bolsonaro's trial as a "witch hunt" and called it grounds for a 50 per cent tariff on Brazilian goods, while the US Treasury targeted Moraes with financial sanctions. Rumble has been suspended in Brazil since February after a decision from Brazil's Supreme Court, which said the social media platform did not comply with court orders. The firm is suing Moraes before a US court, together with Trump Media. In a Supreme Court decision based on the police report, Moraes gave Bolsonaro's lawyers 48 hours to clarify his repeated failure to comply with the restraining orders and his flight risk. Last year, The New York Times published security footage that showed Bolsonaro had spent two nights at the Hungarian embassy in Brasilia. Moraes later closed an investigation into whether he sought asylum, citing lack of evidence.

Two dead in horror fuel tanker, truck crash
Two truck drivers have been killed after a fuel tanker and a heavy truck crash in the South Burnett region of Queensland. A fuel tanker and a heavy rigid transport truck collided head-on on the D'Aguilar Highway at Nukku shortly before 6am on Thursday. Truck drivers killed in D'Aguilar Highway crash at Nukku in South Burnett
Drivers are being warned to avoid a major highway in the South Burnett as police investigate a horror two-vehicle crash this morning which killed both drivers. Emergency services were called to the D'Aguilar Highway at Nukku, west of Blackbutt, following reports of a head-on crash between a fuel tanker and a heavy rigid transport truck at 5:45am today. The driver of the fuel tanker, a man aged in his 50s, sustained critical injuries and died at the scene. The driver of the transport truck, a man aged in his 30s, sustained critical injuries also died at the scene. Police have since made an emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act [PSPA] with a 1-kilometre exclusion zone boundary in place encompassing the D'Aguilar Highway, the northern end of Nukku Road and the southern end of Nukku Boundary Road. The highway remains closed in both directions an motorists are urged to avoid the area. A Queensland Fire Department spokesperson said 11 crews, including the rural fire brigade, were initially called to the scene after the cab of one of the trucks caught alight following the crash. The QFD spokesperson said both trucks were fully engulfed when crews arrived and it took two hours to control the blaze. No other vehicles were involved in the crash. The Toowoomba Forensic Crash Unit is investigating and officers are calling for anyone with information or relevant dash cam footage to contact police. The crash has occurred just days after authorities launched Road Safety Week. There were 302 fatalities on Queensland roads in 2024, including 64 people across the Southern Region, according to RACQ data. Queensland Police confirmed that as of August 17 there had been 187 lives lost on Queensland roads so far this year, including 11 across the Ipswich District, 19 across the Darling Downs District and three across the South West District. RACQ also confirmed the state electorate of Nanango, where today's crash occurred, had the highest number of road trauma between 2019 and 2023. The data found there were 866 people hospitalised and 66 killed following crashes in the electorate during those years. Queensland Trucking Associaion chief executive officer Gary Mahon said fatality figures were "trending the wrong way" and urged road users to obey the rules to ensure everyone got home safely. "We need to understand and comprehend that there are significant consequences every time you go out on the road if you don't take care," he said. Mr Mahon said the recent statistics should be a wake up call for the government to invest more in interior state roads. "When these sort of statistics are showing up like this it's very compelling and quite confronting when you look at the data about where these serious fatal and injury crashes are occurring," he said.
