Trying to sell 786 series Rs 100 note, 25 paise coins online, Mumbai woman loses Rs 8 lakh
The woman said she began communication with a person and sent photographs of the currency she had. The person on the other end allegedly told her that he would pay Rs 8 lakh for each of the Rs 100 notes and the 25 paise coins she had.
She said she agreed, and the accused told her that first she would have to send some money to begin the process. Between July 12 and 14, citing various reasons from GST payment to late payment fee, the accused allegedly made the woman pay Rs 8.46 lakh and claimed that he would later return the amount to her.
After making the payments and not seeing any credit, the woman, as per her complaint, tried to contact the accused using the mobile number she had. She said she found that the number had been switched off. She then attempted to reach the accused at three other numbers, but none of them responded, she claimed.
After realising that she had been deceived, the woman, earlier this week, approached the Pydhonie police station to get a First Information Report (FIR) filed against the unknown accused. A police officer said this is a common cybercrime tactic, where the perpetrators use advertisements promising high returns on investments to lure victims.

4,000+ motorists speeding on Coastal Rd challaned this year
Mumbai: More than 4,000 motorists were challaned by Mumbai traffic police for speeding on the Coastal Road so far this year, with fines issued running up to Rs 82 lakh. Around 1,500 challans have been cleared and Rs 31 lakh in fines paid by offenders so far, the police said. Land fraud racket: 5 arrested with Rs 32L cash, 5 vehicles
1 2 Mohali: Mohali police have dismantled a land fraud syndicate, arresting five key members and seizing Rs 32.5 lakh in cash along with five vehicles used in the scam. Two other accused remain at large, with police hot on their trail. Ahmedabad Crime Branch arrests man with 2 kg ambergris
The Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) of Ahmedabad City Police on Wednesday arrested a man and seized 2 kg ambergris worth around Rs 2 crore from him. The arrested man has been identified as Raju alias Rajesh Punamchand Marwadi, 43, resident of Meghaninagar, Ahmedabad City and originally from Bikaner in Rajasthan. The arrest was made during a raid conducted by police at Meghaninagar in Ahmedabad based on a tip-off. Police said they are on the look out for two persons, Ganesh Bachhraj Marwadi of Mumbai, who allegedly provided the ambergris to Marwadi.
