FBI and local police looking into Tesla charging station that was damaged early Tuesday morning in Lacey WA
Police and the FBI are investigating after a Tesla charging station was damaged in Lacey, Washington early Tuesday morning.
'This morning at 1:34, officers were dispatched to a malicious mischief after receiving multiple calls reporting a loud noise in the area,' the Lacey Police Department said in a statement.
Officers arrived to discover a Tesla charging station had been damaged, police said. Lacey Police Department detectives are working with federal partners to investigate the incident.
Malicious mischief can be a felony charge depending on the amount of monetary damage caused, according to Washington state law.
The FBI is aware of the incident and is working with its partners to determine what happened, the agency said in a statement.
Tesla vehicles, showrooms and charging stations across the country have been vandalized in recent months as Tesla CEO Elon Musk faces public backlash in relation to his position as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency and his role in slashing government staffing and budgets.
The FBI launched a task force in March to crack down on violent Tesla attacks.
Lacey is about 60 miles south of Seattle, where 22 Tesla vehicles have been vandalized this year as of March 30, the Seattle Police Department told CNN on Tuesday.
Last month in Las Vegas, a suspect shot at Tesla cars at a repair shop and ignited two of them with Molotov cocktails, police said.
In a statement on its @TeslaCharging X account, the company said it's on site with the Lacey Police Department and FBI to review camera footage of the incident. It's also working with Puget Sound Energy to get the charging station back online as soon as possible, according to the post on X.

FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino sounded alarms during an interview Wednesday night on Fox News's 'Hannity' about the perilous threats the country faces and the impact of emerging technologies as law enforcement tries to stop terrorism. 'The threat picture now for the United States is dramatic,' Bongino told host Sean Hannity. 'When you get the president's daily brief every morning like the director and I do for this … you go out of there [and] your blood pressure is through the roof. It's so many different things.' He cited threats from drone attacks, artificial intelligence, China and infiltration from other countries among his biggest concerns. 'People say, 'Well, what keeps you up at night?'' Bongino said. 'Well, the answer is, I'd never sleep if I thought about this stuff all the time, but it all keeps me up at night.' President Trump named longtime ally Bongino, a former U.S. Secret Service agent, radio personality and podcaster who has guest-hosted Hannity's show in the past, to the FBI's No. 2 role in February. Two U.S. veterans were arrested on Monday after Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents executed a search warrant and discovered a massive arsenal of weapons, military gear, $24,000 in cash, and Nazi memorabilia at a house in Lacey, Washington. According to a criminal complaint obtained by The Associated Press, FBI officials arrested U.S. veterans Charles Ethan Fields and Levi Austin Frakes on Monday night. Raguse, who claimed that one of the suspects admitted the two U.S. veterans had been stealing military equipment from Joint Base Lewis-McChord for two years and selling or trading the equipment.
